Don't worry, here they are dismissing and minimising detransitioners' stories.

The celebrations are because those of us who work with children and teenagers, those of us who are parents and those of us who are responsible adults are delighted that the DfE have regained their senses and are telling schools that:
They mustn't transition children in secret from their parents.
That no groups or materials from groups must be used in schools without due diligence and considerable checks and balances including checking their online presence. There are (quite rightly given some of the recent awful materials that have been produced for schools) major warnings for schools about using external organisations and materials.
And (amongst other things) that children should not be told they've been born in the wrong body.

And finally that safeguarding is the priority.

My yr 7 dd is doing sex Ed and her teacher has absolutely followed these guidelines. I'm very pleased that some common sense has prevailed

Finally, safeguarding. 👏

So relieved. All those politicians who refused to engage about safeguarding on MN webchats might have a little think about this.

teezletangler · 24/09/2020 20:14

This is an amazing win. Given the new guidance, is it even possible to teach about gender identity anymore, beyond saying "some people believe this"? Because all Stonewall/mermaids/etc have to go on is stereotypes.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 24/09/2020 20:17

Twitter is great right now - certain people, including Mermaids, claiming that Mermaids never said that if you like things or want to present in a way not normally associated with your sex, there might be something 'wrong' with you that can be 'corrected' with drugs and surgery.

Course not guys! 😂

nepeta · 24/09/2020 20:23

I can't believe my eyes! That someone actually points out the importance of us not returning to extremely rigid gender roles is so odd to hear. As if a nice breeze passed through the room.
When did the extreme right and the extreme left become so similar in their sexism? The right says that if you are a girl you play with dolls, the left says that if you play with dolls you are a girl.

Let's not forget they were involved in creating a whole TV show on the premise of stereotypes about clothes and toys.

You wait, in about a day Mermaids will be claiming they were set up to protect kids from the dangerous transgender ideology of dangerous TERFs. The truth is not what they're interested in. Never has been.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/09/2020 20:35

So, speaking to a friend in education, they said that it i is essential that this guidance is specifically brought to the attention of heads in schools. Teachers get huge amounts of guidance from DofE and it is possible that this will not be looked at too closely or thoughtfully as to what it actually means, and may not be read by the head. Everyone who has a child in school should therefore be bringing it to the attention of the head at their school.

Worth noting that whether or not a school complies with the guidance is something that OFSTED can check.

Winesalot · 24/09/2020 20:39

And so it also means that schools must also be very careful who they invite to talk to students. Such as advisors who are clearly males presenting as lesbians or men who in the past wrote about intergenerational sexism being acceptable?

Will the same be applicable to organisations like girl guides? Did they or didn’t they have an advisor to their management who talks about women’s egg shell skulls and the lowering of the age for porn actors and legalizing extreme
porn?

Does this also hold anyone advising any organization to actually not hand wave these things away?

yourhairiswinterfire · 24/09/2020 20:41

The tantrums because they think Mermaids are being ''terfs'' 😂

Oh how the tables turn...

fatblackcatspaw · 24/09/2020 20:50

Oh I’ve missed this!

Just goes to show you can NEVER be woke enough, they’ll always come after you for some perceived misstep.

MondayYogurt · 24/09/2020 20:52

Now the mantra is "mermaids always separated gender identity and gender stereotypes" and the slide isn't evidence bc it's too old.

I so happy reading this!! I can’t quite believe how good this week has been. No Self ID and Children will be be protected at school.🎉🎉🎉

PronounssheRa · 24/09/2020 20:53

I wonder how many children have been directed to the Tavistock based on non conformance to gender stereotypes, which mermaids is now reverse ferreting on. I also wonder if individuals will take legal action.

But here's the synopsis of Butterfly.
a) clothing = gender identity
b) if you don't support the child will mutilate or try to kill themselves
c) puberty blockers cure all

There is a recording of a mermaids training session which was transcribed by some on here. Does anyone remember if that thread survived because it might need archiving

MondayYogurt · 24/09/2020 20:57

d) Happy endings involve life changing drugs.

ALL written in consultation with Mermaids. ALL endorsed by Mermaids. Every line.

They can't erase this.

@jj1968

I don't understand the celebrations. Neither Mermaids of Stonewall run sessions for children so this won't affect them and most LGBT organisations emphasise very strongly the difference between gender non-conforming behaviour based on stereotypes and gender identity based on an internal sense of self. And the new guidance states very clearly that "All pupils should receive teaching on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) relationships during their school years."

I mean I get that they've added to the guidance to address conspiracy theories about transing children but I don't see what's going to change on the ground. All the people you call TRAs seem to have no problems with the new guidelines. In many ways its positive because it means trans kids can should no longer feel pressurised to adopt gender stereotyoes to be recognised in their aquired gender.

So why did Susie green throw away all her (then) son's dolls?
KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 24/09/2020 20:58

Yes, I wonder if some parents will now be reading Mermaids tweets tonight and thinking 'hang on, that's not what you told me when I came to you for advice 2 years ago?'

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 24/09/2020 21:02

I have a friend who's kid is now on cross sex hormones, Knights.

She's thinking EXACTLY that.

I am very sad for her, her kid and all the parents in the transparent group she works so hard in. They've all been conned.

PronounssheRa · 24/09/2020 21:04

Susie Green, her child was drawn to 'girl's things.
Mimmymum, children use clothes and toys to signal their trans status
