"Materials which suggest that non-conformity to gender stereotypes should be seen as synonymous with having a different gender identity should not be used and you should not work with external agencies or organisations that produce such material "

Could this finally spell the end of the toxic Stonewall and all the lobby groups in schools ?
Schools must forbid the promotion of partisan political views in the teaching of any subject in the school and
take reasonably practicable steps to secure that where political issues are brought to the attention of pupils, they are offered a balanced presentation of opposing views

In the light of this how can any school give sexual politics lobby groups access to children?

NatashaGurdin · 24/09/2020 18:41

@Melroses

Surely the main problem with Mermaids et al are that they start from the point of a child being 'trans' when they are just gender non conforming and could grow up in various ways if left to their own devices under watchful waiting?

The trans child has to exist, because that is what the middle aged adults believe themselves to have been.

Also, the sex balance of the young group and the old group are the opposite way round which should ring alarm bells.

Exactly Melroses, middle aged adults who think they would have been a 'trans' child are the last people who should have been listened to on this.

Alarms bells should definitely have been listened to about that point!

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 24/09/2020 18:41

Oooh yes, does this also mean an end to the 'Flowjob's of this world visiting schools and then posting photos of the event of their public social media without parental consent?

HecatesHat · 24/09/2020 18:42

Always

This in incredible news and very timely for me because I'm due to have a meeting with my Son's new secondary school 2 x Safeguarding Leads (one is the Dept Head) to chin them about why they became a Stonewall Champion School (think it might be a new thing as there is no evidence of this affiliation on the school website) and also persuade them to cut ties - because they are rotten to the core and DON'T have the best interests of ALL the children at heart.

This info will come in handy. I'll send the links to them tomorrow.

Thanks OP for the heads up, much appreciated. Smile

SerenityNowwwww · 24/09/2020 18:44

What’s that I hear? The rustle of lawsuits?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/09/2020 18:44

then posting photos of the event of their public social media without parental consent

Interestingly this was specifically mentioned

Before a session with an external speaker, it is important to check protocols for taking pictures or using any personal data the external speaker may get from the session.

HecatesHat · 24/09/2020 18:46

I think the danger of allowing poorly vetted external parties freedom to present to schoolchildren had reached a tipping point.

How exactly did we get there in the first place? (Denton tactics taken into account). How do we stop it happening again?

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 24/09/2020 18:48

"Materials which suggest that non-conformity to gender stereotypes should be seen as synonymous with having a different gender identity should not be used and you should not work with external agencies or organisations that produce such material "

My kids school's new RSE curriculum cites GIRES as a resource, who definitely promote the idea that non-conformity to gender expectations is a result of a 'mismatch' and all that bollocks. I wonder how this will now change?

PaleBlueMoonlight · 24/09/2020 18:50

It is absolutely fantastic. I cried!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 24/09/2020 18:51

I think we got there because various groups positioned themselves very effectively in a space that made them hard to challenge. Question us and you are a bigot; a dinosaur; phobic. So people were afraid to express their discomfort. We all need to be alert to anyone who tries to deflect legitimate scrutiny with accusations of bigotry.

RuffleCrow · 24/09/2020 19:00

@knightsof they'll probably get there a lot quicker if you send the link to the headteacher and ask them what they plan to do to comply. Unfortunately the world of gov guidelines is plagued with arrogant people blithely ignoring it and hoping the process of challenging them is too time consuming and expensive for them to bother. See the way thousands of schools abolished the single sex toilets girls over 8 are legally entitled to because covid.

KnightsofColumbusThatHurt · 24/09/2020 19:05

@RuffleCrow yes, I am having another meeting with the HT soon - he does seem to understand the concerns I have (which were basically what is now in the government guidance!) and seemed to want to actually listen to me, so I can ask him what he is going to do about the GIRES signposting as well.

MichelleofzeResistance · 24/09/2020 19:06

How exactly did we get there in the first place? (Denton tactics taken into account). How do we stop it happening again?

Crucial question.

There is in the guidance, to paraphrase it, a reminder that even if a group is in receipt of government funding this should not lead to an assumption that no due diligence is needed, and the material content can be assumed to be above question.

I think that's one hell of a lot of it, right there.

Polynerd · 24/09/2020 19:07

So who do you think we have to thank for this? Here are the possibles:

Education Secretary Gavin Williamson will continue to have overall responsibility for the Department for Education.

Nick Gibb will continue as Minister of State for School Standards.

Michelle Donelan takes on a new portfolio and has been appointed as Minister of State for Universities.

Vicky Ford has been appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children and Families.

Gillian Keegan has been appointed as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Apprenticeships and Skills.

Baroness Berridge has been appointed as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for the School System.

There is no such thing as a 'trans' child, there are gender non conforming children who may grow up to be lesbian or gay or in a very small number of cases may be trans adults.

They have already labelled the child and set them on a path that might be difficult to get off of if they change their minds.

This is what, in my opinion, they are back-pedalling to. That everyone has a brain gender identity.

Based on NO evidence.

Are they seriously telling everyone they should be teaching children, or people who teach children, about their ideology, on absolutely no evidence whatsoever?

Reassuring in some ways. Long term vigilance is needed. How do they square that with giving such organisations govt funding in the first place?
ArabellaScott · 24/09/2020 19:15

Absolutely bloody fucking brilliant.

What a weight off! Just some simple, straightforward, calm, rational, adulting. That's all that was needed.

I can't help but read that bit as very pointedly pointing at certain organisations, that have immediately, like clockwork, popped up to deny that they ever suggested that gender was a spectrum from Barbie to GI Joe, good lord, who would suggest that, because that would be UTTERLY RIDICULOUS.

HecatesHat · 24/09/2020 19:15

@Thingybob

Thanks for sharing. The message prior to that is Mermaids responding to a post that states: 'No child is born in the wrong body this is damaging. Children should be encouraged to wear what they want, play with what they want without putting stereotypical adult conforms on them...is [sic] perfectly normal leave them alone.' With the comment 'Precisely.' 🤔
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 24/09/2020 19:17

Oh dear. Stonewall are disappointed Sad and desperately punting their teaching materials

twitter.com/stonewalluk/status/1309170230871162882?s=19

Today @educationgovuk published new guidance for schools teaching Relationships & Sex Ed. While it highlights the importance of LGBT-inclusive teaching, it fails to deliver the right tools to support teachers to teach with confidence on LGBT identities.

Dissappointed? Us too. For years we’ve been supporting hundreds of schools to access the tools, skills & confidence to create inclusive learning environments, providing resources to help teachers ensure their RSE lessons include LGBT people & relationships

Earlier this year, we launched a series of free home learning packs, complete with suggested activities and materials to support your child's learning. Please retweet to reach teachers, carers or parents who would find these useful ❤

We’re also proud to have supported thousands of schools, colleges, local authorities and children and young people’s services to challenge bullying and celebrate diversity. This is why we developed our e-learning series #StonewallLearning

Looking ahead, it’s now vital that future materials produced by the Government provide clear, specific and positive support to help schools deliver LGBT-inclusive education 🧑‍🏫🌈

My favourite comment on that Stonewall tweet thread "Siri, what does the sound of a cash-cow dying sound like?"( twitter.com/Jackieme2009/status/1309193494347603969?s=19 ) Grin

Sounds remarkably similar to something a famous author once said.
Datun · 24/09/2020 19:23

Mermaids and Stonewall both need to issue a statement to explain what trans is in respect of children now.

How does it manifest itself? How can you tell? Where is the evidence?

gardenbird48 · 24/09/2020 19:25

@Thingybob

How are Mermaids going to square this with what they’ve been telling the families they’ve communicated with over the years? When you tell lies just gets more and more complicated until you implode (or something)
