Conceived Female, Assigned Unimportant At Birth

That's how I feel sometimes.

NecessaryScene1 · 25/09/2020 10:06

Yes, so very, very clear and difficult to argue against without exposing yourself as basically in favour of harming children by forcing them into boxes.

It is a masterpiece. And Mermaids et al have basically crumbled immediately. They saw this coming in July, and have had to basically concede. They'd rather go along with it (and try to retain funding) than publicly challenge such a well-written document.

Now, of course that document doesn't really say anything that Transgender Trend and co have been saying for years, but the DfE is too big - they can't pull the "transphobic bigots" card at the government and rely on people to not actually look at what the DfE are saying.

PronounssheRa · 25/09/2020 10:18

Weren't they the ones with the jelly baby scale from Barbie to GI Joe?

Yes, and the police received training by mermaids using that very slide in 2019.

@PronounssheRa

Weren't they the ones with the jelly baby scale from Barbie to GI Joe?

Yes, and the police received training by mermaids using that very slide in 2019.

Which is how we ended up with PC Gul which lead to Fair Cop and a Judicial Review.
OvaHere · 25/09/2020 10:24

PC Gul then explained to Miller: “What you have to understand, Mr Miller, is that sometimes a female brain grows with the wrong body parts and that is what being trans is.” Miller asked if that was the official definition of trans. PC Gul said “Yes, I’ve been on a course.” Miller laughed, and the whole conversation lasted over 30 minutes while Miller was lectured on thoughtcrime, and transgender ideology.

Transgender campaign group Mermaids advertise on their website that they provide training for NHS, Police Service, Social Services, Schools, and others. In this way, officers like PC Gul are being trained in transgender ideology. Even worse, some of them, like PC Gul, seem to actually believe it too, no matter that it is clearly contrary to science and common sense.

@BabyItsAWildWorld

I want to start using this to make challenges but need to get some things clear in my head first:

How does this challenge the Trans Toolkits currently out there in schools and LAs? - can we use this to challenge their removal?

How do we use this to challenge the need for single sex provision in schools where the Trans toolkits were advocating for gender identity provision?

I understand I can now challenge the use of materials and referral to some organisations, or at least advice that people must be sure these organisations abide by the government guidance.

I do think though that Mermaids and Stonewall are just going to try to tweak things to fit with this, as if all suddenly magically OK! We can see that already, and it's possible they'll get away with it. Saying 'you used to say' won't wash I don't think.

How will this fit with No Outsiders?

Thanks to anyone who can help me get my head around things before I get out there Grin!

BabyItsAWildWorld These 2 paragraphs summarise the issues for all the lobby groups that have been able to peddle their misinformation in schools: We are aware that topics involving gender and biological sex can be complex and sensitive matters to navigate. You should not reinforce harmful stereotypes, for instance by suggesting that children might be a different gender based on their personality and interests or the clothes they prefer to wear. Resources used in teaching about this topic must always be age-appropriate and evidence based. Materials which suggest that non-conformity to gender stereotypes should be seen as synonymous with having a different gender identity should not be used and you should not work with external agencies or organisations that produce such material. While teachers should not suggest to a child that their non-compliance with gender stereotypes means that either their personality or their body is wrong and in need of changing, teachers should always seek to treat individual students with sympathy and support. You should work together with parents on any decisions regarding your school’s treatment of their child, in line with the school’s safeguarding policy and the statutory guidance on working together to safeguard children
persistentwoman · 25/09/2020 10:27

Every time I read the above I get an immense sense of relief that finally vulnerable children are being safeguarded.

Floisme · 25/09/2020 10:27

I turn off the laptop and leave the house for a few hours and look what happens! I couldn't work out this morning why Twitter was awash with talk of Mermaids and reverse ferrets. I won't pretend I've read it properly but wow what a week!

SophocIestheFox · 25/09/2020 10:35

This from Mermaids current website:

Supporting a transgender child as a teacher

You may encounter children or young people who are struggling with their gender identity and this can be difficult and confusing at first. That’s perfectly understandable and it’s great that you’ve come to find out more.

Under the equality act 2010 any young person has a right to be addressed as their true gender, regardless of any diagnosis or medical intervention and irrespective of age. We have a number of resources that identify the responsibility you have as a school towards these pupils and your duty of care.

Mermaids and other partner organisations can assist your school to assist with a child or young person’s transition, provide training and lesson plans to make sure the best outcome is achieved for all involved. The most important thing is that the young person is respected and their views listened to”

So yes, they do provide lesson plans, and might do well (as might Stonewall) to check that the requirement to be evidence based doesn’t fall over on misrepresenting the Equality Act, as they both have definitely been doing to “get ahead of the law” (which now won’t be changing in the direction they anticipated).

Conceived Female, Assigned Unimportant At Birth

Nails it really, I'll join you.

Conceived female, unchanging fact for the duration of the existence of this organism, regardless of how the organism feels about it.

Assigned Support Human at birth, by a highly sexist society who currently would like to argue in some quarters that sex doesn't exist while at the same time relying on sex as their entire argument for utilising female people in the set gender role assigned to them, and getting very cross with the ones who do not unquestioningly embrace their disadvantage.

And then you see someone like Blunt demonstrating this in practice and resist the urge to hand him sufficient pom bears to shut the whinging up for five minutes, stuff him in a buggy and take him for a very long walk while reminding yourself life will not always be quite this bloody awful and you will probably not be forced to run away to Peru, because you know about people behaving like this, you just are always slightly shocked to see it in someone who is apparently a functioning grown up, and has managed to get into a position of public responsibility.

HecatesHat · 25/09/2020 10:37

Has anyone drafted a letter to a headteacher raising the key points & highlighting the organisations involved? I.e. Mermaids, Stonewall, GIRES etc Maybe there's something on Transgender Trend?

MichelleofzeResistance · 25/09/2020 10:40

might do well (as might Stonewall) to check that the requirement to be evidence based doesn’t fall over

The DfE guidance is very specific on the checks that should now be applied to resources or working with outside agencies, and even more helpfully, about the legal duty to not allow partisan political points of view to be put to children by outside agencies. The duty to do due diligence has been stated in very blunt terms. The gaping loopholes have been slammed closed, and it's a wonderful thing.

Sexnotgender · 25/09/2020 10:42

Does this also mean an end to the godawful drag queen story time?

NeurotrashWarrior · 25/09/2020 10:42

Fucking hell Mermaids.

I've just looked at their twitter to see what their responses are.

4 simple clicks to literary porn from their twitter feed.

I've screenshotted below each step taken. Apologies in advance for the last one. I can't add the second which is just Juno's twitter page and links to their blog. The words in the screen shot are what is immediately read on the page.

This was a tweet advocating for "young people."

Well no that's bunkum.

It applies to adults.

What's a true gender? That implies their sex and body is wrong.

persistentwoman · 25/09/2020 10:51

This is an object lesson in how regulatory capture works. These organisations have been able to subvert education law and guidance along with safeguarding for a number of years now. None of this SRE guidance is new - it simply draws on existing laws / guidance and points out school's responsibilities to follow it.

Our education system were led down a rabbit hole by lobby groups, removed parental rights and safeguarding from children for "be kind' reasons. And it has taken several years of sustained work by women and a small number of men to point this out.

What a scandal.

WeeBisom · 25/09/2020 11:10

It’s worth pointing out that mermaids supporters are saying the jelly baby slide is one slide taken out of context and it referred to gender stereotypes so the speaker could then go on to explain why those were wrong. This is a lie. We have the transcript of the meeting. Mermaids makes it clear that we have a “jelly baby” that corresponds to your inner feelings and your body and being trans is when your jelly babies don’t align (sigh) and “cis” is when the jelly babies do align. They are brazenly and openly lying about what they used to teach and believe.

I've just received a letter template from the Baroness Nicholson for sending to headteachers (I am on her mailing list) - I can share of helpful?
FindTheTruth · 25/09/2020 11:15

This is a lie. We have the transcript of the meeting. @WeeBisom

is there a link?

Datun · 25/09/2020 11:19

Do mermaids, and the people denying the content of their lessons, not remember that one of the lessons was taped?

It was all waffling nonsense, and anyone who had any kind of searching question got shut down. And one particular man was subjected to such aggression, he ended up in tears?

It was a lesson in intimidation.

Yes. It is a scandal. And it evolved under an alleged 'Conservative' government. There needs to be a forensic inquiry into how this happened and what damage has been caused as a consequence. Those responsible for failing to apply any critical thinking and accelerating this should be held accountable. Sadly, I have no confidence that this will happen. This agenda had zero public support. It was advanced sub rosa with the help of people in positions of power and influence.
