Leeds City Council “opening a second managed prostitution zone” in East Leeds

According to Julie Bindel on Twitter, a Labour councillor has confirmed the rumours. Apparently its because the independent review was so positive and will take some heat off Holbeck if the trade can dilute to another zone as well!!!

Wtf??? Crossgates East Leeds apparently.

Could we possibly organise to email all those above in "waves " so that it's always on MPs and editors minds?

I am so ashamed of my city and the council.

InconvenientPeg · 23/09/2020 22:09

The worst thing is, that it's a 'successful' Leeds city council policy, as per the independent review that carried out, so really there isn't any reason why it couldn't be any area of Leeds. If it is a mistake, maybe it's fortuitous, because maybe people will begin to realise that it could be in their backyard next, rather than tucked away in the 'less desirable' areas of the city.

Anordinarymum · 23/09/2020 22:15

They closed all the parlours down in Leeds some years ago. Places where girls could work in safety, were busted, and owners prosecuted for living off immoral earnings.

When they did that the girls went back on to the streets again so this is why they have these managed zones.in an effort to show they care (NOT)
IMHO the managed zones have been an absolute failure.

Everybody talks, everybody has an opinion but no-one listens to the girls themselves and asks them what they want. It's crap

Winston's is still there. I used to live opposite Monique's on Kirkstall Road, I think that went a good few years ago.

Sex work is real work!

roarfeckingroarr · 23/09/2020 23:10

This is just so horrible. These poor women. Disgusting entitled bastard men.

HairyRrug · 23/09/2020 23:19

Thanks for the addresses. I'm up for timing my complaints/letters in waves too.

@TheJessicaClarke

Sex work is real work!
Nobody is talking about it being a holiday activity. The focus is on why men would need a second area of town (let alone a first) to rent orifices.

Luckily it appears that there's not going to be a second one, so they will just have to use one area of town for buying bodies.

MrsGrindah · 24/09/2020 07:19

Thanks for the update @MonkeyPuddle...but it’s got me all riled up again about Holbeck so I think I’ll still drop Hillary a line!Grin

Gurufloof · 24/09/2020 07:42

Prostitution if it ever were a real job would not be allowed. The sheer weight of PPE would render the women unable to move and the men unable to touch them. The cost of PPE would be unviable when you get 5 quid for a blow job, how would that even work with PPE?

And as usual when the men using the women are asked if it would be a good job, with prospects for their wife, daughter, sister, mum, it suddenly becomes a different matter because of course their female relatives would never have to do such a job.

thebigX · 24/09/2020 07:45

Yet again more rumours spread and people jump on the band wagon. Leeds council does get a lot of flack on here when there are so many worse councils. Yes sex work is horrible and a major problem but at least Leeds were looking to try do something about it and try and make it safe for the people who won't stop being prostitutes. Maybe it's time to look at your own councils policy's. Ffs.

TheQueef · 24/09/2020 07:49

@thebigX what you burbling on about? Won't stop being prostitutes? Safe?
Go and get some weetabix and then report your own post. Hmm

Langsdestiny · 24/09/2020 07:53

Yes we cant possibly have a view on Leeds and other councils at the same time.

HairyRrug · 24/09/2020 10:26

There's the issue. " people who won't stop being prostitutes". Those bloody women causing the city problems. What can we good men of the council do about them? If they took their blinkers off they'd maybe see it was a demand problem caused by men.

No they were not. If they wanted it to be safe for those girls they would not have closed the parlours down.

Leeds city council has no tolerance, and by moving those girls to those areas they are quite literally closing the door on them and throwing away the key

Anordinarymum · 24/09/2020 10:53

@Butterer

Did Winston's up Dewsbury Road go too?
Don't even go there.. summat really dodgy about that place being allowed to carry on when everywhere else was shut down methinks
@Anordinarymum I used to work just by there.

One of the Leeds councillors, now alder(wo)man was my boss. She's still running a MH charity supporting vulnerable people, and problematic stuff in the area like Winston's was Never Mentioned.

We also didn't talk about her voting in the bedroom tax, or wanting to charge mental health service users on benefits for community groups and support. Or the possible conflict between her interests as councillor and her interests as a manager.
There has been a lot of talk regarding that disgusting place. Do you remember a few years back when they got busted and all the trafficked girls were removed from the premises ?

And they still operate ! It beggars belief. Very fishy.
