This witch doesn't burn
OP posts:

I see JKR is being jumped on now for some of the other items sold in the online shop. Some are tongue in cheek and others may seem harsh to some people but I can't say that I disagree with the ones that I've seen so far.

Oxyiz · 23/09/2020 12:41

Some people seem incapable of understanding that you can like X about something/someone/a quote without approving of everything else remotely connected to it. Genuinely. I think they can't comprehend it. Total love or total hatred.

Coyoacan · 23/09/2020 12:56

Why should other women who don't have her privilege and power put up with being called a witch?

Who were the witches? Witches were the women burned in the 15th and 16th century probably because they knew some herbal remedies or just because they didn't confirm to their era's equivalent of stepford wives.

I don't mind identifying with them.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2020 13:22

Reading a thread on Twitter where the little dears wonder what the cotton ceiling is.

I meant to say upthread, you absolutely shouldn't have to put up with sexist insults. The fact that some of a group may 'reclaim' a slur in no way means everyone has to do so, and it certainly doesn't give anyone else the right to apply it to them.

I just went a purchased mine. GrinThe thing with the TRA's is they lack a sense of humour bit like the Puritans.

bellinisurge · 23/09/2020 19:42

Apparently the T-shirt is tedious boomer humour. Because obviously a woman's opinion loses all value once she passes 55.

Oxyiz · 23/09/2020 20:23

The daily mail commentors are having none of it I see.

SunsetBeetch · 23/09/2020 20:25

She was sending them a clear mesaage with that t-shirt, and still they pile on and make themselves look ridiculous.

Interesting, isn't it. That online shop sells more than a hundred products. Are we now to assume that buying one product and telling others where to find it means we endorse every other product on the site and share every belief of the owner?

I mean Angela is what I would call a hardcore lesbian feminist (not an official categorisation). Neither deference to men, nor dependence on men. Quite a few uncharitable opinions of men. Not shy to express them. There's a few sentiments expressed there in some of those products I don't agree with, but so what? I just won't buy them. I've bought stuff from other shops that sold products I didn't like. Literally every bookshop, my favourite kind of shop in the world, sells products I find wholly objectionable. Countless products that express bad things about my class, my ethnicity, my sex, my age, my hobbies, my character traits, my body, my weight, my fashion sense, my work, my aspirations, my relationships, my personal habits, my parenting style. Everything I am, have been and do. Derided. So what? I just don't bother with those books.

Sometimes I just want to say oh grow the fuck up you numpties. The world is big enough to accommodate more than just your narrow-minded views.

Gladysthesphinx · 23/09/2020 21:39

On the wildwomynworkshop, on Etsy, there’s a ‘make your own fucking sandwich’ badge. I wish you could get that on a t shirt. I’d wear it every day. It could be issued to every mother of teenage sons in the UK.

PurpleHoodie · 24/09/2020 11:13

I'm thinking If anyone wants them in time fir Christmas, order now.

I have a feeling their wait times are going to go up.

And good on them.

DreadPirateLuna · 24/09/2020 11:45

*Who were the witches? Witches were the women burned in the 15th and 16th century probably because they knew some herbal remedies or just because they didn't confirm to their era's equivalent of stepford wives.

I don't mind identifying with them.*

Typically older women, possibly a bit eccentric or opinionated. Probably would be called "Karens" nowadays.

A lot of the accusers were women as well, all too keen to throw their own sex on the bonfire and keep suspicion off themselves.

DialSquare · 24/09/2020 11:50

Agreed CharlieParley. Since my post yesterday, I went and had a good look at everything in the shop and whilst there are items that wouldn't appeal to me, I wouldn't judge anyone that did buy them.
Angela reminds me a bit of Magdalen Berns with her no nonsense opinions and couldn't give a fuckness (that's as best as I can describe it!)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 24/09/2020 12:19

I bought rather a lot of things. I'd have bought more but they were out of stock.

There are at least three more T-Shirts that I want.

Gncq · 24/09/2020 13:36

I wasn't asking about her. I was talking about other women who don't have the white rich privilege that she has.

Bit late to the thread but I completely read that as "who don't have the right witch privilege..."

During the reformation, Convents were closed or even destroyed as the church split into Catholic/protestant.

80% of those executed in witch trials were women, a lot would have been displaced nuns, older, single women who were not used to a life of deferring to their husband or father.

ColleagueFromMars · 24/09/2020 15:02

Special thanks to the TRA on my friends list who alerted me to her tweet, and to the linked article criticising the offensive merch which pictured a load of the merch in detail and linked me to where to buy it Grin I work in a ridiculously woke place - I'm going to buy a load of those badges to pin to the inside of my handbag. I'm probably also going to put some up behind the camera on my zoom call so I can look at them and genuinely smile when my boss goes off about it too.

Why should other women who don't have her privilege and power put up with being called a witch? It's been said on this thread there are worse misogynistic worlds we can be call. I don't believe we should settle for the lesser of any evil

Speaking personally I'm very happy to identify as a witch (pagan) and I fucking love the reclaiming of the word, especially by JKR Grin I see it as a powerful compliment - yes I'm not stupid enough to think it's always meant as it but reclaiming words is POWERFUL. If you don't want to that's cool, but others who want to are just as legitimate as you.

SecretWitch · 24/09/2020 15:12

As a woman who has been practicing witchcraft for 35 years, I love this.

The woke crowd must be going crazy that are unable to cancel a targeted female.

Bless her.

SirSamuelVimes · 24/09/2020 17:24

I'm putting that t shirt on my Xmas list. Pay day on Monday, DH can order it then and put it away for me. Along with the new Strike novel, the Ickabog and the MiniLima edition of the Philosopher's Stone. Grin

I'm happy to identify as a witch. Hermione Granger, Molly Weasley, Lilly Potter. That's company I'll happily keep.

You Star JKR. Keep going.

Quite..such a weird way to look at things.

Surely there is noone on the whole planet that will hav e the xact same views on the exact same tpic as someone else. Or maybe a 1/million chance of it, something like that.

Yet women..are expected to avoid anything/anyone who has ever said/done anything that they (the accuser) disagree with.

Lordamighty · 24/09/2020 20:37

@Smellbellina

Because if you want a prime example of being 'on the wrong side of history' , that'd be the witch-finder, not the witch.

I really like that observation.

Me too.
BatShite · 24/09/2020 20:42

Furious critics were quick to point out that the website sells a series of other items they deemed 'transphobic', with users sharing images of badges reading 'f* your pronouns' and 'trans activism is misogyny'.

From mail link..

So it seems we are not allowed to shop anywhere that might sell something that someone might find offensive. I trust they never purchase anything on the likes of ebay, as I have seen a fair few things that would be clased as (actual) transphbia on there over the years.. Hmm

Its just totally bonkers to assume someone agrees with every thing in the shop, because they bought one bloody tshirt. Where do these people come from..seriously. Ad why are they still not learning that more publicity for Jo more cash for her. I thought they wanted her cancelled and broke (yeah right Grin )?!
