Went up on Friday evening, was taken down yesterday evening.

AFAIK it didn't get much coverage when it went up (although there wasn't much time) but now there is lots of coverage.

From the bottom of my heart, I want to thank the trans activists to jump to it and complain about these posters. You are helping us achieve greater reach than we could ever have anticipated. And the people who pay for the posters get their money refunded. It's PERFECT.

Please carry on. PLEASE!

The more people, Canadian or other, who are baffled by the volatile over-reaction to a simple fan poster the better.

This is clever activism because it triggers lots and lots of free publicity that raises awareness across populations.

Power to their collective elbow!

howonearthdidwegethere · 13/09/2020 10:58

Yes! I am also grateful to Baroness Hunt for creating this ever-growing army of activists who are prepared to flood errant organisations with emails. Every time Stonewall tweets, they grow the army.

Cheers, Ruth! This is YOUR legacy.

stumbledin · 13/09/2020 22:32

Haven't check back in the past couple of hours but following complaints they started to take the poster down.

And then the truck with the ladder on it go stuck or something.

Will check for later update!

ArabellaScott · 13/09/2020 22:48

Oh, no, did they get it taken down what a shame and so sad that now it's in all the papers and ordinary people are a bit baffled and maybe asking some questions and newspaper reports are including segments of JK Rowling's moving, eloquent yet allegedly 'hate filled' testimony, you say?

(Posie is a genius.)

stumbledin · 13/09/2020 22:57

Here's the tweet about the bucket (not ladder!) being broken twitter.com/christophelston/status/1304918974950305794

I cant find the fb post from the woman who actually arranged for the poster as would want to acknowledge her.

Hey you are Stumble well, it’s her twitter at least - his partner in crime is Amy

Posie Parker was also given credit by Christopher 💪

DryHeave · 14/09/2020 06:08

When people say this is “anti trans feminism” they really are showing their cards - surely it’s not anti trans at all because it includes trans men?

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 06:44

I might be alone, but I really don’t like the posters.

They aren’t just fan posters. They are put up by people who support a particular issue and they are designed to provoke a reaction.

I don’t have any problem with that, but I think JKR should be able to choose when she wants to comment on an issue. I think this takes that out of her hands.

sultanasofa · 14/09/2020 07:41

The 158 complaints to Network Rail about taking the Waverley poster down vs zero about displaying it in the first place, clearly showed where public opinion stands on the importance of freedom of speech.

I am wondering if the billboard company Pattison would find it useful to know where the public stands on this issue? Here's a online form to contact them, if anyone wanted to do that:

Oh that felt good this morning, called them craven, said they better pull every advert I see that i disagree with immediately i report it. Not bad for a Monday morning, quite blistering in fact. I don't actually live in Canada but small details.

highame · 14/09/2020 08:04

merrymouse it would be unfair to put the whole of a women's movement on the shoulders of JK Rowling, as that might put us in Life of Brian territory. A good movement will develop and a poster such as this which has a strong political motive and has people who are unaware asking the question 'why is this hateful' etc etc is a stroke of genius. If JKR had issues, she is the sort of woman who who say so.

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 08:15

If JKR had issues, she is the sort of woman who who say so.

I think everyone should be able to take a break from any political debate, and deliberately and repeatedly using her name as part of a publicity stunt without permission is wrong.

She shouldn't be put in a position where she has to take action to stop people doing this.

If these people have asked permission, I don't have a problem, but I suspect they haven't.

thatplaceinjordan · 14/09/2020 08:15

I agree with merrimouse

We should stick with
Woman =adult human female

highame · 14/09/2020 08:29

You're assume permission wasn't sought. I think you're wrong on that one

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 08:36

Yes - I don't know. But without knowing that permission was given I feel uneasy every time I see one of these posters, because I feel that they take away JKR's ability to speak for herself.

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 08:37

And more importantly they take away her ability to choose WHEN she wants to speak.

highame · 14/09/2020 08:39

I don't like the posters either, but because I always hated the 'I heart' stuff, however, this seems to have a life of it's own now. If other cities, countries etc use this and it keeps the debate going, this is a massive win. I have put my dislike of 'heart' stuff to one side.

She's still talking, so I guess it's not have a bad effect Grin

merrymouse · 14/09/2020 08:43

this seems to have a life of it's own now.

But somebody's name shouldn't have a life of its own that they can't control.

I'm also sceptical that it keeps the debate going. I suspect that the only people who notice the posters are people who know why they are there.

Somebody suggested on twitter a poster saying "I heart objective reality". I'd be supportive of that.

Gurufloof · 14/09/2020 08:46

They aren’t just fan posters. They are put up by people who support a particular issue and they are designed to provoke a reaction

Didnt harrop have the same reaction on the news? And posie said the posters are simply the definition of woman. It's only some people who see it as political, the rest just see a definition of woman, or in this case that they heart jk.
It's only political if you see it that way. We on here see the politics behind it, most people will drive on by without giving it a thought until it's in the news. It could equally be a fan poster, theres nothing in the poster to say otherwise.
As for jk herself, I think shes been asked, but if not, she is a famous woman and will be in the news for all kinds of things, if she wants anonymity it's a bit late.

I really love the image you posted earlier. Where might I be able to find it? Thanks.
