"Women's" Cricket; Kent CC squad including a man

Kent County Cricket has yet again, even after protests last year, awarded a squad place to Maxine Blythin.
For those who don't know Maxine, they are a transgender woman, who doesn't live 'fully as a woman', has had no surgery nor reduced their testosterone levels. Maxine was, nonetheless, awarded the Kent County Cricket Woman's Player of the Year for 2019.

Last year, Maxine also enjoyed playing as Max on alternate weekend days in a mediocre men's team.
Let's compare stats for 2019, as Max playing as a Man vs 'Woman'':

Chesham Second XI men's team (mediocre village team):
8 matches, 79 runs in total, highest score 44, average 13.16

Kent women's county cricket team (semi-pro women's team, earning £££s):
8 matches, 629 runs in total, highest score 152*, average 104.83

Crystal clear proof that men competing in women's sports is NOT fair.

This needs some loud protests from those who care about women's sports.

Part-time transing with benefits? How can something like this be based on nothing but what someone says, especially as this transgender woman refuses to relinquish male privilege.

Maxine is not intersex. From that Sky article, all that can be gleaned is that Maxine has issues with delayed male puberty with low testosterone of which there are many causes. None of them make Maxine anything other than male. It’s concerning that Maxine hasn’t had this investigated given the potential diagnoses. But this in no way qualifies Maxine to play women’s sport.

Women on the opposing teams should refuse to play against that team that has an unfair advantage.

Happy a man is putting pressure on Kent but more women reaching out in a measured way would be fab.

Kantastic Thank you for that very interesting link from mrkhvoice.

I certainly agree with what you say that the unspecified condition means that suddenly anyone questioning it looks like a big meanie. And that may be enough to stop a journalist bothering to run the story.

Maxine is just following the rules. Hmm However, at the end of the day, it's an xy person playing in women's sport!

If I said what I really thought about Blythin it would not end well... and I've had a glass of wine so probably wouldn't manage to be suitably diplomatic and guarded in my language.

Suffice it to say I do not believe there is any way of spinning this situation in which what Blythin is doing can be seen as fair or sporting.

And Kent CCC should be ashamed of themselves.

Not sure if this has been mentioned but there is a TW joining a professional women’s football team too. They are waiting for the FA to confirm based on testosterone levels. Surely, all contact sports need to address the findings of rugby or they will be open to lawsuits. Or are lawsuits for injury (future medical expenses such as dementia with head injuries for example) the only way they will change? That would be reprehensible.

TW are awfully good at sport aren't they? Has anyone seen reports of TM joining men's competitions? I think the TM just aren't trying hard enough.

There is a US organisation that I follow: savewomenssports.com which has a really useful list of organisations to write to in the US and internationally to complain about men's inclusion in women's sports.

It also has a good letter which could be adapted to send to national sports organisations in the UK. If we don't speak up now, there will be many more mediocre men taking places that rightfully belong to women on sports teams

PearPickingPorky · 02/08/2020 07:17

It is very clear that whatever undiagnosed-but-completely-verified-by-doctors "intersex" condition Maxine has decided Maxine has does not make them female. Otherwise Maxine would not be so far ahead of all the other female cricket players, and playing with mediocre men.

Oh ffs. I have a season ticket for a WSL team (not Bristol) so no doubt I'll be watching this player against my team next season.

I have no hope that the rugby report will change anything. It feels as though rugby had an advantage in that respect because it's such a high contact sport. Injury and fear of litigation might just have been the push they needed that women's entitlement to fairplay wouldn't be Hmm

Incidentally, I read that the WSL players under 18 have to use a different changing room to the over-18s for safeguarding reasons. I presume that won't be the case for male players though.
