"Women's" Cricket; Kent CC squad including a man

Kent County Cricket has yet again, even after protests last year, awarded a squad place to Maxine Blythin.
For those who don't know Maxine, they are a transgender woman, who doesn't live 'fully as a woman', has had no surgery nor reduced their testosterone levels. Maxine was, nonetheless, awarded the Kent County Cricket Woman's Player of the Year for 2019.

Last year, Maxine also enjoyed playing as Max on alternate weekend days in a mediocre men's team.
Let's compare stats for 2019, as Max playing as a Man vs 'Woman'':

Chesham Second XI men's team (mediocre village team):
8 matches, 79 runs in total, highest score 44, average 13.16

Kent women's county cricket team (semi-pro women's team, earning £££s):
8 matches, 629 runs in total, highest score 152*, average 104.83

Crystal clear proof that men competing in women's sports is NOT fair.

This needs some loud protests from those who care about women's sports.

@DialSquare
As a boy, always as a boy until they left school

And their voice was not that high pitched.

OvaHere · 31/07/2020 15:22

So basically these days if you are male you can retrofit whatever history you want and spout medical nonsense with impunity in order to colonise women's sport.

DialSquare · 31/07/2020 15:22

Thanks ChubbyPigeon.

I think that tells us a lot.

SerenityNowwwww · 31/07/2020 15:23

But it’s not fair (not cricket you might even say).

How come they were playing in the men’s league - do the allow women to play for men’s teams?

Anonymum263 · 31/07/2020 15:25

Find this so discouraging. Especially as hardly any reputable media are covering this--I try to do my research and only found articles in the Sun, the Daily Mail, etc. It's extremely difficult to have a conversation with my ("woke") husband if I can only refer him to sensationalising tabloids.

picklemewalnuts · 31/07/2020 15:27

They have lovely hair. They also have an Adam's apple.

Do cricketers usually wear boxes? I think they do.

I can imagine Blythin likes cricket, plays on mixed teams, and didn't experience the same puberty most boys would. They probably have a hormonal condition of some type.

However, I don't think they are female and shouldn't be playing on a women's team.

Kit19 · 31/07/2020 15:27

If I remember rightly the Kent woman’s captain tried to defend it on twitter last year and got ratio’d to fuck

Duchessofealing · 31/07/2020 15:28

I’ve emailed the ECB about this - smacks of cheating the system by Kent. If I hear back I will post.

WeeBisom · 31/07/2020 15:29

This shows the focus on testosterone is such a red herring. Max's testosterone levels is supposedly 1 (which puts them in the normal female range.) Despite that Max is clearly dominating in the women's team! So surely the most relevant factor is the fact that Max is a biological male.

dementedma · 31/07/2020 15:29

This is fucking outrageous!

SerenityNowwwww · 31/07/2020 15:32

How can someone do this and look people on the eye? It’s like me getting on my nieces under 10s soccer team and creaming all those little weaklings...

JackiesArmy · 31/07/2020 15:32

So if someone says they are intersex, no-one can challenge them? Can anyone self-identify as intersex now?

If someone has low testosterone, they are a woman (the taking of female cross-sex hormones is irrelevant to this apparently).

JackiesArmy · 31/07/2020 15:34

I assume the explanation about the men's team being "open" means that Maxine playing on the men's teams for the first 20+ years of life has no relevance to Maxine being a man or a woman since the teams are open to both Confused.

MagicalThinking · 31/07/2020 15:36

A man with low testosterone is .... a man with low testosterone. Simple as that.

And in the video on the Sky news article, when you see the full body shot of Maxine batting, Maxine very obviously has a typically male build.

ErrolTheDragon · 31/07/2020 15:37

In mens shoe sizes by 11, how can they not have gone through any male puberty? They have a male physique regardless.

There's historical evidence that boys who genuinely didn't go through puberty - the unfortunate Castrati - had long limbs and large lungs, the latter being the source of their singing power in conjunction with unbroken voice. They certainly weren't women.

Kit19 · 31/07/2020 15:37

Yes agree with PP I don’t see how Maxine isn’t completely embarrassed

WinterIsGone · 31/07/2020 15:38

"That condition means I'm eligible to play women's sport at any level, in any sport, naturally," she says.
I thought that was an odd quote. I wonder if Maxine has considered any other sport.

puzzledpiece · 31/07/2020 15:40

The inmates have definitely taken over the asylum

Winesalot · 31/07/2020 15:43

It must have been a confusing time for Maxine. However, how do the doctors know whether they did have higher testosterone during puberty to give some benefit? I do feel this is not a clear cut case without further information. I feel sad for anyone missing out of the team to find out sometime in the future that Maxine was not in fact eligible.

I think that it has to be time to revise this testosterone policy in light of Dr Hilton’s and Tommy Lundberg’s review.

OneEpisode · 31/07/2020 15:44

In the video clip Maxine talks about when Maxine was a child and adolescence. Isn’t adolescence “the period following the onset of puberty”? But they didn’t have a male puberty?

Kit19 · 31/07/2020 15:46

But Maxine hasn’t said what condition they have and anyway afaik it’s irrelevant. A woman is anyone who says they are right? so why are they gong out with all this when they didn’t bother last year (I know why - it’s getting their defence in early)

I wonder if the ECB defines what a woman is....

Winesalot · 31/07/2020 15:46

Sorry posted too early.

Plus do more research into the other effects that are not testosterone related.

FloralBunting · 31/07/2020 15:58

And of course Blythin's female team mates are onside. The cheating benefits them very nicely. Other women from other county teams might not be so eager to celebrate a male bodied player trouncing them.

calllaaalllaaammma · 31/07/2020 15:58

This shows that testosterone should not be the only criteria as to whether you are allowed to compete in a woman's team. They have advantages of height and strength and do not identify as female half the week.
Intersex conditions are being used to justify erasing women's rights.

Kit19 · 31/07/2020 15:59

I assume that anyone team mates not being supportive would find themselves not playing anymore

It’s not exactly a free choice is it
