I'm not applauding cancel culture, but grimly amused that this is entirely down to his own actions regarding Baroness Nicholson:

oh this has made this a good morning.... yes I'm not the bigger person but really the lesson is Don't Go After The Baroness

OfficeBird · 25/07/2020 12:35

Anyone have another share token - that one didn't work for me - and I'd love to read the full story!

Is them cutting ties related to the Booker incident though, or a coincidence?

I notice Barr has updated his LinkedIn profile saying that the Brighton Fringe was taken over by a new organisation in June 2020 and all trustees were asked to resign?
Or perhaps this is just his spin on it, as his narcissism won't let him accept rejection?

Glinner · 25/07/2020 12:38

I laughed for a good minute when I saw this one.

MingeofDeath · 25/07/2020 12:43

I know it's childish but all I could think of was HAHA!

feelingverylazytoday · 25/07/2020 13:05

Oh dear, hoist by his own petard 😂

Redshoeblueshoe · 25/07/2020 13:13

Roseburn that link does work. Thanks

Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Is it too early for 🍷

AbsintheFriends · 25/07/2020 13:20

Well gosh, there seems to be a notable lack of writerly/publishing types rushing to tweet their support of the hero they couldn't applaud loudly enough for ousting Baroness Nicholson...

Highwind · 25/07/2020 13:21

What goes around....

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 25/07/2020 13:23

Well, good. I'm glad it's bitten him on the arse. Couldn't happen to a nicer bloke etc etc etc GrinGrinGrin

OfficeBird · 25/07/2020 13:30

@Roseburn Yes, thank you!

Chrysanthemum5 · 25/07/2020 13:31

Oh that has made my day! Poor Damien who could have imagined comments in which he mocked an individual's suicide attempt might not have been an acceptable way to behave

christinarossetti19 · 25/07/2020 13:37

I am also smiling at this. Very humiliating to be dropped by the Uk's largest arts event in the town where you live.

What he wrote was appalling. If he was female, he would have been hounded by gender ideologists, rather than commended for apologising.

Somehow, this is more satisfying and enduring than a Twitter storm though.

nevermorelenore · 25/07/2020 13:42

If you're going to go out of your way to cancel someone for doing something you disagree with, at least search your own old tweets for slurs. How stupid can you be?

nauticant · 25/07/2020 13:54

There's lots of merchandise on Etsy that answers that very question nevermorelenore:

ChurchOfWokeApostate · 25/07/2020 16:05

Schadenfreude, ah yes....
I learned today that there is an English equivalent to schadenfreude after all, it’s epicaricacy
It’s only been used about 3 times since 1955, let’s bring it back

RufustheRowlingReindeer · 25/07/2020 16:12

Im another that hates this cancel culture thing

I hate hypocrisy more though...not keen on gross stupidity either

Still, as others have said, live by the sword...die by the sword

nauticant · 25/07/2020 16:31

They took their time but after a great deal of careful consideration Pink News are edging towards the view that perhaps Damian Barr has done a bad thing:

This exchange made me laugh:

twitter.com/not_gary_riddle/status/1287013027561209857

The nutty tweets are coming from a satirical account but are indistinguishable from the real thing.

rabbitwoman · 25/07/2020 16:36

My opinion..... The booker prize cannot apologise and reinstate the Baroness, but this is the next best thing.... And hopefully it will be a useful lesson to other Damien Barrs out there.....

My hope is that the baroness will utterly school munroe during their tea at the house of Lords - it's a learning opportunity - for munroe....

Ameanstreakamilewide · 25/07/2020 16:56

But, Rabbit - Bergdorf's ego...the ego!

What could Her Ladyship possibly teach Monroe?? Hmm

SerenityNowwwww · 25/07/2020 17:34

Aw.... 🎻

WhereYouLeftIt · 25/07/2020 17:43

The worst of it is - I'm not actually surprised. So many 'pillar of the community' types are discovered to be using their respectability like a cloaking device to hide who they really are. Now we see the LGBT community is exactly the same.

Any time someone holds themselves up as some holier-than-thou denouncing someone else, I can't help but expect them to be uncloaked sometime soon. It's almost a given.

SerenityNowwwww · 25/07/2020 17:49

I’m amazed anything happened about it. Shocked I am.

StrangeLookingParasite · 25/07/2020 18:41

The place where your past words and deeds are taken out of the context in which they were framed, in order to beat you up in the present day, in an unconnected debate.

Except in his case that tweet mocking someone's suicide attempt was just disgusting. There was no context that made it acceptable.
