Twitter has decided that saying "Only females get cervical cancer" is hateful.

Twitter to ban tens of thousands of accounts due to this ‘hateful conduct’.

So now ... it's trending on Twitter.

Take that, Twitter.

Why is this ALWAYS about stuff to do with being a female. Never see a 'only males get prostate cancer' hashtag, nor people going mental at anyone using the word man for..well men.

The amount of people on that hastag saying 'well transmen get cervical cancer so clearly men do too' who then answer 'transmen are female' with 'sex and gender are different! bigot' is astounding to me? Yes, sex and gender are different things. Sex would be female. Gender can be whatever they want? So..how is it bigoted to mention sex, when even TRAs say that sex and gender are different things?! Why then go onto try and make out the two are the same or have anything to do with each other? Bonkers.

They're either being deliberately disingenuous or they're a bit dim. If you believe sex and gender are different this isn't a controversial statement.

BatShite · 12/07/2020 15:39

I know we will have trans men on our books who may need smears but won't get invited

I find this horrifying tbh. It absolutely shouldn't happen. This is why if anything 'gender' needs to be an ADDED option. Not for sex to be marked down falsely. Can't be too hard surely to have a transman down as 'Sex: female' Gender: Transman. Or something?!

Mind, gender is irrelevant medically tbh, except in 'misgendering' terms I guess, so could be worth having a note to make sure misgendering doesn't happen. But clearly at the min, misgendering is much much worse than missing cervical cancer due to being down as a male person Hmm

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:41

I agree. That is entirely a problem created by transactivists, and this nonsense has to stop.

BatShite · 12/07/2020 15:41

Exactly.

Never do understand this with TRA types. Agree that sex and gender are different. Then spend ages trying to convince people that sex IS gender. Why?! You literally just said they are different things!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 15:42

The NHS already has options for both sex and gender to be recorded.

@Ereshkigalangcleg
But since this addition sex/gender is often coded incorrectly

Doyoumind · 12/07/2020 15:46

Agree. Then they say we don't understand the science Confused

I said it on another thread that the way they frame everything reminds me of my abusive ex. He would argue that black is white. This is no different. Nothing will make them see reason so it's a waste of time engaging. They do enough themselves to shine a light on the idiocy.

FannyCann · 12/07/2020 15:53

For the benefit of anyone who hasn't seen it before, with regard to the matter of changing sex markers or not, there was this sad case of a trans man with renal failure. All the relevant blood tests are sex specific and by continuing to be evaluated on the basis of expected male results his management was impacted.

There's no mention of whether there was any discussion about the impact of his gender on his health, or indeed if the medical team were even aware of his trans status.

Yes, definitely. But it would be no technical difficulty to record both. There's no excuse.

Yes, it's a well known trait of NPD.

The language thing reminds me of all the terms we've had for people with disabilities, from "idiot" donkeys years ago to "special" which have to be thrown out every few years because they end up being used insultingly.

That's what the TRAs' language games remind me of, except they're not discarding. They're changing language which hasn't been adopted as a slur. Female, male, man and woman: none of those are slurs to your average person.

We used to be allowed "female" (despite the vast logical flaw of woman literally meaning 'adult human female' 🤨) but even that has been co-opted now.
If we all wholeheartedly accepted "cis", that too would be co-opted in no time. (I think India Willoughby already did it.) Because to them that intrinsic difference between women and trans women is so offensive and no bastardisation of language will ever be able to dress up all those differences between the two sexes.

Doyoumind · 12/07/2020 16:18

I know Ereshkigal. The word narcissist gets overused but I've been sure for a number of years he's the real deal.

Winesalot · 12/07/2020 16:43

This tweet.

"only 1 in 4 women with learning disabilitiesattend theircervical screeningappt"

Clear accessible language in healthcare matters. For those with LDs it is vital to make communication honest and clear.

"38% of people with a learning disability died from an avoidable cause"

This is why we should stop using language that is not communicating the meaning of the message to the largest majority of people it is aiming to inform. This is why instead of dehumanizing language relating to functionality, we use words that encapsulates the people who need to know.

For everyone that says ‘it doesn’t matter to me to be called a person who menstruates, a birthing person, a cervix haver,’ it is NOT about you and your understanding. It is about those who might not.

Point-missing tweet from Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

I wonder if they understand that Twitter has banned someone for tweeting that only females have cervixes.

This time I blame the transmen. Stop forcing people to tell lies because you're in denial about being female.

PumbaasCucumbas · 12/07/2020 19:41

There is more to it that not offending transmen, otherwise exclusively male medical language would be offensive too. I imagine most want to quietly live their lives.

It is a wider assault on the language used around female people and their bodies... basically anything a woman has/experiences, that a trans woman doesn’t, is offensive and must not be mentioned. (Oh and don’t forget the ultra woke people offended on the behalf of other people, who may not even be offended themselves)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:17

I'm sure they realise, aside from the pathetic performative wokeness, that only females have a cervix.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 12/07/2020 20:18

and that changing sex markers on health records will result in dangerous risks being taken

I actually agree with that, seeing the tweet about a trans man missing he was pregnant - there should always be a way that your birth sex is still on records in cases like this.
I still think you should be able to identify as male or female, but when it comes to medical records should say.
No idea if it's not on there anymore, if it's not it should be

Not everyone ‘with a cervix’ will have access to the right information if they continue to use this sort of language. Women will die from cervical cancer because some wokesters are more concerned with not mentioning the fact that only women have a cervix than they are with ensuring all women (which does not include transwomen as they are men) have access to information.
Pepper70 · 12/07/2020 20:36

I'm gender critical, but I thought this hashtag was kind of inflammatory and meant to be so. I mean transmen get cervical cancer... I'm not saying I think people should be cancelled or taken off twitter though for the hashtag

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:36

You get ludicrous statements like one the other day: x % of people have endometriosis, when they mean x % of women, but have simply substituted "people" for "women" making the numbers wrong as they refer to almost double the population that can get it.

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 12/07/2020 20:38

but I thought this hashtag was kind of inflammatory and meant to be so. I mean transmen get cervical cancer

I thought so too

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:38

Yes, and they are female. It was in response to a poster not being allowed to say this. It's inflammatory to call women menstruators and similar, but no one cares. Sex is a thing.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/07/2020 20:39

I'm gender critical

In what sense? This is kind of basic stuff, to be allowed to have words to discuss female issues.
