I thought there was a John Cleese thread already but I can’t seem to find it. Has it been deleted?

He’s not shying away

Can anyone tell me what the responses to John have been?
Has anyone answered his question ?

HandsOffMyRights · 09/07/2020 07:39

Now this will be entertaining...

HandsOffMyRights · 09/07/2020 07:49

Some of the responses are really logical, like:

'If you came out as a trans woman, then if your wife chose to accept and love your true you. Yes in time you as a woman, a trans woman and your wife as a woman, a cis woman, would be in a same gender marriage. The process to get to that point is long, convoluted & hard'

They finish with a 'shut up but be kind' reply...

'Not to mention heartbreaking, full of gatekeeper, full of danger and sadly full of people like jkr, glinner & you. Maybe if you shut up, listened to trans voices not transphobes voices you might understand more and be kinder.'

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 09/07/2020 07:50

They are probably afraid to challenge him, he actually talks sense.
Poke the woke He's brilliant.

HandsOffMyRights · 09/07/2020 08:02

He's also been told to 'ask the grandkids' so he can be educated on the subject!

SophocIestheFox · 09/07/2020 08:15

Puerile, isn’t it? His grandkids would do better to ask him about moralising outrage, censorship, being banned and how to react when people are “offended”. They might learn something.

It really is quite something to watch him being scolded for being offensive to progressive values. I bet Mary Whitehouse, who certainly enjoyed scolding Cleese and the Pythons back in the day for being offensive is turning in her grave Grin “No! Don’t scold him for that, scold him for being blasphemous!” Which side would Mary come down on??

Why are they so humourless?

twoHopes · 09/07/2020 08:52

If you came out as a trans woman, then if your wife chose to accept and love your true you. Yes in time you as a woman, a trans woman and your wife as a woman, a cis woman, would be in a same gender marriage.

So you can be in a same-sex relationship (even if you're straight) by choosing to accept and love someone? So surely the reverse is true - you can be in a heterosexual relationship (even if you're gay/lesbian) by choosing to accept and love someone? Isn't this what homophobes have been telling gay people for decades?!

nellodee · 09/07/2020 09:02

I've read a good few comments and I haven't seen any "Choke on a dick" comments yet, and only one "TERF". It's very baffling.

nauticant · 09/07/2020 09:03

Haha! I can only imagine the wokescolds have genuinely no idea of the stink that Life of Brian kicked up back in the day. John has been grappling with censorious types since the late 70s - 40+ years of experience of people telling him he can’t say or think what he’s saying or thinking.

Exactly. Here's Cleese and Palin going up against the Bishop of Southwark and Malcolm Muggeridge over Life of Brian in 1979:

Well worth a watch to see how free speech seemed to be an important thing in the 70s.

SerenityNowwwww · 09/07/2020 09:06

He’s a comedian - he’s having a laugh.

nauticant · 09/07/2020 09:17

He might be having a laugh but I also think he genuinely wants to take a stand over people being told what to think and being silenced when they disagree.

Brilliant

I've been wondering what John Cleese thought of all this since I rewatched Life of Brian over lockdown. The scene where Loretta declares self a woman and then talks over the actual woman in the group seems eeriely reminiscent of modern-day twitter.

Poke the woke Brilliant
I want a tee shirt with poke the woke on it. 😁
TinselAngel · 09/07/2020 10:23

Lots of people on there thinking trans widows are homophobic if they want to leave. There's still a lot of work to do.

Still, I've had an amusing hour playing with the trolls.

The responder who tried to say that being a trans woman is innate hasn’t met Pips (Philip/Pippa Bunce, the part time lady at Credit Suisse who waited until he’d risen up the ranks to a senior level before he introduced the company to his lady dressing two or three days a week and then picked up a Women in Business award for his stunning bravery. Did he also miss the fact that Stonewall says that cross dressers are trans - even more nonsensical!

Has anyone told him about the spousal veto?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/07/2020 12:18

Yes, they did.

Coconutmeg · 09/07/2020 12:24

Good

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/07/2020 12:31

Oh, wow, he's going for it.

Thank fuck for John Cleese.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 09/07/2020 12:32

I like this, quote from a recent tweet:

'As Robin Skynner said " If you can't control your emotions, you have to control other people's behaviour "'

TinselAngel · 09/07/2020 12:52

Has anyone told him about the spousal veto?

I have told him about the Spousal Exit Clause, yes.

emilybrontescorsett · 09/07/2020 13:05

If you marry a man you marry a man.
I’m quite sure you can get a divorce if your ‘husband ‘ declares they are not male.
Besides well done John Cleese. It’s great to see all the woke squirming trying to respond.

TinselAngel · 09/07/2020 13:22

I’m quite sure you can get a divorce if your ‘husband ‘ declares they are not male.

How are you so sure? Can you explain how this would work?
