Opt out of organ donation

I cannot be the only one to think the new opt-out organ donation scheme will result in a lot of wombs being stolen without permission, if this comes to pass?

It is troubling that a womb isn’t mentioned on the list of organs to be donated.
I won’t hold back my other organs that will save lives, but I would opt out of my womb being used in this way.

I'm on the organ donor register. In my view - I'm dead. I don't need any of my body bits at that point. Nor will I have any knowledge of who has the body parts or what is happening to them. Hopefully by the time I die my womb will be way past usefulness lol.

If you are on the register you can either donate everything or you can specify what can and cannot be donated. Or you can opt out if you feel this strongly about it.

Everyone needs to think about this and ensure their wishes are recorded

I can't quite work out where the outcome is though so more research needed.

I don't want to donate my womb though! I'll make that clear in my wishes

I’m all for organ donation in theory but I’m absolutely NOT for donating my reproductive organs and allowing this emperor’s new clothes charade to go even further than it already has. No fucking way

I remember filling out the organ donation form years ago and I think you could select specific organs, and then there was a general box that covered all the rest. So if it hasn't changed, and if I remember correctly, you could opt in for all the named parts and opt out of the general one.

I’ll opt out of the lot if there isn’t an option to keep my reproductive organs. That would be a real shame, given the number of people the other organs and tissues could help but i feel more strongly about the retention of women’s rights than I do organ donation

I've had to opt out of organ donation, I'm pissed off there is no box to say why I have done this.
I don't want everyone to think I'm a selfish sod. As it is I can't give blood, tissues, bone marrow or donate organs as I had several blood transfusions in CJD era.
If I could I'd donate everything and I would not care where they went.

I have already opted out I can't donate blood so doubt they would be able to use my organs anyway.

It is such a shame. I have been registered as an organ donor for many years, but I just do not trust the government not to make some subtle alteration which means reproductive organs are up for grabs.

My mum lost a baby to sids about 42 years ago. She found out some time after that some babies at that time had their organs removed without permission. I don't think she ever found out for sure if it had happened to my sister. She was really upset by it, probably still is. So people do care about this stuff.

I wouldn't want my dd to be in a world where a man has my reproductive parts inside of him. Or a woman to be honest, but definitely not a man. I don't want to contribute to something I think is wrong, even if I'm dead.

I dont see why you wouldnt donate your womb if it can help someone else? At the end of the day... You'll be dead so surely it's better that a piece of you can live on and make someone else's life a bit better?

Ah just realised this thread is in the "feminist" section and it's the thought of it going to a trans woman that's the issue? I consider myself a feminist in the sense I want equality so cant understand the issues with trans people.

What about the rights of the babies they intend to carry in the womb? Would you leave all your money to a cause you fundamentally disagreed with, because you're dead and no longer need it?

@DanniArthur can you explain what you mean by equality? Trans women should be able to impose themselves upon women's rights rather than creating their own? That's not equality, that's oppression.

I suspect the good doctor is trying to be 'controversial'. Even if this were surgically possible, it takes more than just being in possession of a womb to maintain a pregnancy. The 'Emperor's New Clothes' charade wouldn't stretch to a biological male being in possession of a female immune system for a start.

I mean equal pay, equal opportunities and equal protection against abuse or violence. Something the LGBT community also struggle for. I completely disagree that trans women are 'imposing themselves" on woman's rights. I also tend to avoid this section because my views towards trans people are different from the culture here.
If you dont want to donate your womb that's your decision and I'm sure your family could relay that. Please consider still donating other organs if you can though.

Fwiw even if you opt in or out your next of kin get the final say.

It's not 'equality' to give a female body part to a man, no matter ho they identify.

Biology determines which sex gives birth, it's nobody's fault.

This is different and I'm very sorry for your mum. Her daughter wasn't able to consent and so as her next of kin your mother should have been asked.

I'm an adult and I'm able to consent to my organs being donated. My husband a my next of kin knows my wishes. When my children are older they can know my wishes too.

I'm very hopeful that I'll die old and warm in my bed meaning my womb and ovaries would be useless for childbearing anyway.

Please don’t opt out , I need a kidney, as do many mothers out there. My very small children need their mum. Wombs being “stolen” is probably unlikely, mums being stolen from babies is likely if opting out is discouraged. Just make it so so clear to loved ones what your wishes are, add it to your record etc, but please don’t encourage others not to donate just in case, I beg you.
