I cannot be the only one to think the new opt-out organ donation scheme will result in a lot of wombs being stolen without permission, if this comes to pass?

From the other thread on here, I believe reproductive stuff is excluded completely.

I would not want my eggs used for any reason after my death.

SandysMam · 29/06/2020 14:25

If opting out is encouraged that should say!

OhHolyJesus · 29/06/2020 14:30

I opted out a year or so ago because of this.

My next of kin has strict instructions that they can have anything they like but nothing that was used to make my baby.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 29/06/2020 14:37

Agree Im happy to be totally harvested but not those bits. Also, many other organs donated mean another persons life is saved, literally life and death but not the case for reproductive organs surely? It's not essential so I add that to the reasons why I'm deeply, deeply, uncomfortable with them being donated.

Hands off my womb, dudes.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:38

@SandysMam

Sorry it wasnt my intention to dissuade people from giving life saving organs to those genuinely in need Flowers

What i intended to relay was that if uterus transplants for men are even a slight possibility, i want an iron clad guarantee my organs will not be used for this purpose.

Preferably for organ donation as part of the medical transition to be made illegal in all circumstances.

This will lead to some people opting out who otherwise might not have, which surely can't have been the goal when creating an opt out system.

BrokenBrit · 29/06/2020 14:44

I really hope it doesn’t stop people registering as organ donors for life saving donations.

Other organs are listed separately, I hope that if this comes to fruition then reproductive organs are too.

SandysMam · 29/06/2020 14:49

@Wolfgirrl thank you, I do totally understand where you are coming from, I just don’t want the matter of opting out of womb donation to be confused with a blanket opting out which may result in less organs not more.

It is such a complicated issue and one I so wish I didn’t have to think about!! I just am so desperate to grow my little ones up, I’d take anything lol!!

Thanks for highlighting anything to do with it though, getting people talking is the best thing of all.

@JonHammIsMyJamm

www.organdonation.nhs.uk/

Don’t know if it’s been posted but here’s the link to amend your existing register entry or to opt out.

I used this link, there is a contact us section so I have emailed them regarding how to opt out of reproductive organ donation. Stating that this should be an option for women. Also what the fresh hell is mx? Title Ms Mrs Miss Mx Mr ??
Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:50

Reproductive organs can be used 'with the explicit consent' of your next of kin.

So theoretically (I assume), you could opt out of donating them, but after your death your next of kin could reverse this decision?

Stop sticking Xs on the ends of words, TRAs. It looks silly and nobody knows how to pronounce it.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:53

@SandysMam Flowers of course, I'm very sorry I will word things more carefully in future to make sure it doesn't come across like I'm encouraging people to opt out of donation full stop. I have a condition which means I may need a transplant in future, and I agree it is essential to get it right.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 14:56

Isn’t ‘Mx’ for the gender-neutrals?

Hmm
JonHammIsMyJamm · 29/06/2020 14:57

Or non binary or whatever the fuck

Crockodoodle · 29/06/2020 14:57

Next of kin make ALL the decisions. It is completely irrelevant opting in or out, you are at the mercy of your next of kin.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 29/06/2020 14:58

I've completed the register by opting to donate some specific organs, not all. I've excluded tissue. Plus I've made sure that my next of kin know that any to do with my reproductive system is off limits for donation.

DreadPirateLuna · 29/06/2020 14:58

Womb transplants for males are in the realm of science fiction at this stage. Some biological women have had womb transplants but their chances of a successful pregnancy are still slim despite having all the other "plumbing" and the right hormones.

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 14:58

The next of kin thing could be open to abuse of process if this comes to pass. I can imagine a section of the TRAs haranguing terminally ill women.

OP posts:
Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 15:00

@DreadPirateLuna of course, I dont think this is likely to come to fruition for the next 10 years at least, but I dont see what is to lose from encouraging the government to legislate against it in advance. With all other womens rights issues we have waiting for what seemed like an impossibility to become a reality before taking action. Then it is harder to do as the TRAs have the scent of blood in their nostrils.

Interesting that the options for women in titles grow and grow while men are still just Mr.

Having a single title for women was a feminist aim but yet again we're going in the other direction while for chaps it stays unchanged and uncomplicated.

I'd get rid of titles altogether what even is the point of them.

ShinyFootball · 29/06/2020 15:01

Well it's about sex and position in hierarchy and also for women whether single or not.

Why do we need to know this about (usually) strangers. People you meet irl it's first name in my life.

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:05

See, I’ve gone on that nhs link, and I’ve clicked donating some, but womb doesn’t come on there to select or not.

Does that mean it isn’t included in organ donation?

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:06

Wolfgirrl · 29/06/2020 15:08

@soubriquet

If you click the link by PP, reproductive organs are a rare transplant - your next of kin would need to give permission.

So they definitely 'can' be harvested.

Soubriquet · 29/06/2020 15:11

Have you got a specific link? I’ll donate anything but my eggs and womb.
