Has been suspended from twitter. He has been a great ally - as you can imagine there is a bit of a party going on over there.

ShyPhilosopher

I have absolutely no beef with trans people. Being trans is totally cool and dandy.

Women need single sex spaces. We need our own words (woman, female, etc) to define ourselves, to support each other, to protect our rights, to describe our lives, to maintain our privacy and dignity if we choose to do so. We need single sex exemptions for sport, healthcare, changing rooms, prisons, etc.

I thought dans post was sarcasm...is it not?

Waspnest · 27/06/2020 23:24

WTF? Isn't accusing someone of sending dick pics when they haven't illegal in some way? (Slander? Libel?)

Anyway, thanks Glinner for sticking up for women when most men can't be arsed (looking at you Daniel Radcliffe et al ) even though it must be fucking hard not knowing what shit is going to be thrown in your direction next.

IfNotNowThenWhen2 · 28/06/2020 00:02

I watched the Jonathan pie thing. It's basically about how lefty people asked for all this by being too woke. We were asking for it apparently.
I also watched his pretend interview with an actress playing a woman who had written a book rubbishing the idea that the sex pay gap isn't real, because women in their 20's earn more than men in their twenties, and women choose to have a different work life balance to care for children, and we have had equal pay since 1970, so it's all fine, and it's women's fault for not applying for the right jobs and standing up for themselves.
He has a lot of subscribers, so good for him, but I don't think he's particularly relevant to any grown up woman with a brain.

Institutkarite · 28/06/2020 00:03

I'm not sure Rufus, at that particular time I took it as a serious point, I'll go back and see f I got it wrong.

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/06/2020 00:11

I thought we were all being bitterly sarcastic. I was, anyway!

ScrimpshawTheSecond · 28/06/2020 00:13

I dunno, first we were promised loads of dollars from rightwing American Xtians, then free dick pics.

Disappointing, really. Mumsnet's not what it's cracked up to be.

contactusdeletus · 28/06/2020 00:17

Just curious - where in the hell are we allowed to have a reasoned debate about this? Who can talk about the ways trans rights conflict with women's rights? Who is allowed to give the female side of the debate? Because as far as I can see, all debate on the subject gets branded as hateful, no matter how respectfully you phrase it. Women aren't allowed to take the opposing side on this. Trans people aren't allowed to speak against the orthodoxy on this. Men aren't allowed to be allies to women on this (unless it's to trans women, at the expense of biological women).

Trans rights activists claim they're not policing speech. They claim they're not silencing women. But as far as I can see there is literally no scenario where anyone is allowed to speak for us, at all.

I am so grateful to people like Graham Linehan and J.K Rowling for putting their necks on the line to speak up for us. It chills me to the core to see them being silenced and dismissed like this. By hook or by crook, eh?

Sod Twitter.

GreenJumpers · 28/06/2020 00:39

Thanks @glinner.. it's lines like this I'll miss the most: "There are plenty of trans people on there who don't want to be associated with these grifters, with one hand down their pants and the other out for donations."

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2020 00:42

ifNotNowThenWhen2 you're missing the point.

He said something you disagreed with before, so now nothing he says has any merit?

That's the exact point he is making.

YourVagesty · 28/06/2020 01:12

Everybody sensible needs to turn their back on Twitter. The best thing that could happen to it is that it become an echo chamber for extremists.

Fuck Twitter. It's the opposite of a neutral platform, it has far too much influence and it stands for nothing that most people consider good. I hope it goes the way of MySpace.

Down with this sorta thing!

TehBewilderness · 28/06/2020 01:20

One of the advantages of getting a person banned is that they are then free to lie about them to their hearts content. Doesn't surprise me that creeps who send dick pics are accusing others of sending dick pics.

IfNotNowThenWhen2 · 28/06/2020 02:23

? If you mean I'm missing the point of what the man is saying, then no. What I am saying is that I'm not particularly interested in him in the context of this conversation because it's not relevant. His whole schtick is, in general, not interesting to me, which is not to say nothing he says has any merit. I just can't be arsed watching all of his you tube broadcasts in order to find out. If you want to, then go for it.
Dicotyledon · 28/06/2020 02:43

I do find a video where a man is talking about antisemitism and encouraging people to be burned to death in the same breath incredibly distasteful. So ta for that lovely clip. Angry

Are you talking about the Jonathan Pie video? Because that’s not what he’s doing.
Helmetbymidnight · 28/06/2020 06:52

its a video about cancel culture and how unforgiving, silencing and censorious people are nowadays.

i think your reaction is a perfect illustration of that dico, thank you.

irishfeminist · 28/06/2020 09:51

It makes me laugh that someone thinks a man of Glinner's generation would send dick pics, it's something that has become normalised now but which seems utterly bizarre and outlandish to older people. It says a lot about the kind of people who make up such an accusation.

I am not a Glinner fan either - sorry - I do not think a man attacking women and calling them handmaidens or telling lesbians that they are traitors to their community has any place in a feminist movement. But on a human level I can see it's cost him a great deal and I wouldn't wish that kind of harm on anyone. TRAs are absolutely brutal.

marvellousnightforamooncup · 28/06/2020 10:25

I know Scrimshaw. I'm pretty pissed off with Feminism in general. I came here for the US right wing fundamentalist dollars, had zip. Still waiting for Julie to send my young lesbian wife. Had no dick pics from Linehan. Had to fork out for crowd funders against Stonewall myself. Getting disallusioned.

Totally agree about the dick pic being a largely generational thing. I like Glinner. Sometimes his frustration may have clouded his judgement. He's risked so much putting so much into this fight and I'm not surprised his contempt for other blue ticks took over a bit. And he attracted the worst of the trolls and abuse. Still he kept on.

😂😂😂

Myriad · 28/06/2020 11:10

I agree. Glinner is no feminist. His entire campaign was one of hate against transgender people and he was quite happy to throw women under the bus if they didn't join his cult. I just wish men and women (Most of whom are feminists) would not see trans as a threat to their rights. Sure, a handful of militant activists on both sides say awful things, but most women, trans or not, are just lovely people who pose no threat to each other whatsoever.

Having said that, the idea that he posted dick pics is just ludicrous, but that's not why he was suspended

ChattyLion · 28/06/2020 11:12
Hmm
Myriad · 28/06/2020 11:13

I think Twitter is fine. You can run away from anything if you don't like what is said there, as the right wing extremists seem to do at the moment flocking to Parler, but you just have to make up your own mind in that. I wouldn't recommend anyone to leave Twitter.

Myriad · 28/06/2020 11:15

Except what you're saying is: I have no beef with trans people, but I do.

DuDuDuLangaLangaBingBong · 28/06/2020 11:19

on both sides

Ooh, we have a new, Trumpian visitor!
