Children of seven and twelve years old, just heartbreaking.

I would get banned for saying what I want to say about the writer of this piece.

OP posts:

When Seph was three, she told me, he walked into the living room with an armful of dresses and dumped them on the floor. “I won’t be needing these because I’m a boy,”

Fucking THREE.

My three year old son thought he was a cat. Seriously. Insisted on licking milk from a saucer and everything.

Yeah I'm gonna take my son to get neutered and surgically attach a tail now.

This child abuse makes me cry.

Children of seven and twelve years old

And a 14 year old girl who's been on testosterone for 10 months.

testing987654321 · 15/06/2020 08:38

My daughter was a cat aged 3 as well.

"Why aren't you wearing clothes?" "Cats don't wear clothes"
"Okay, as you were"

Newuser123123 · 15/06/2020 08:39

Heartbreaking. There was a twitter thread last night describing an 8 year old desisting after 2 years. Eye opening.

testing987654321 · 15/06/2020 08:39

I think this needs repeating

And a 14 year old girl who's been on testosterone for 10 months.

That day in their living room, Seph had only spoken when his mom asked him a question. But when his mom stepped away briefly and I told him that I was like him, that people had thought I was a boy but I was really a girl on the inside, his eyes grew wide. “You’re like the opposite of me!” he exclaimed, his body visibly relaxing.

Wildly inappropriate approach to a 7 year old?

MingeofDeath · 15/06/2020 08:44

I always find it amazing how precocious these kids language abilities are, as Gncq quoted. According to Jazz Jenningss' mother some of Jazzs' first words were " I want a vagina". Hmm.
I hope that the fanatical parents and there enablers are eventually prosecuted.

LillianBland · 15/06/2020 08:45

In no other circumstances would you be permitted to use drugs to experiment on children. Not just given the freedom to abuse children, but given protection while you’re doing it. If I decided to increase or decrease my child’s medication, simply because she asked me to, the medical professionals would rightfully, report me to social services.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 15/06/2020 08:45

My niece was a cat at three.

Now she's on testosterone.

The writer has no idea about safeguarding. No idea how inappropriate it is to talk to a 5 year old without their parent there. Just seems to be revelling in feeling like a role model.

OldCrone · 15/06/2020 08:46

Girls who don't like long hair and wearing dresses. Boys who like pretty feminine things. Are these just children expressing their personalities? Or is there something wrong with them that needs to be fixed by the gender clinic?

And why is it always the mothers pushing this, with the fathers either nowhere to be seen or reluctantly going along with it?

TheThirdPigWasTooClever · 15/06/2020 08:52

My three year old is quite often a dog, likes walking around on her hands and feet barking. Sometimes even outside! Sometimes she’s a cow. Is she species fluid? Or a small child enjoying imaginative play? If you see a group of children playing in say Reception, they’ll rarely play as they are, either as characters from books or television, or as babies/grown ups. It’s what children do! My eldest at 4 persisted she was 27, and had to go to work so I needed to give her my car keys!

Sexist stereotypes are just that, stereotypes! In various cultures men have (had) long hair and worn dresses! Theres no biological cause for these stereotypes.

Clymene · 15/06/2020 08:53

What kind of society have we made when children are being pit on cross sex hormones? Makes me want to weep

CrumpetyTea · 15/06/2020 08:54

I thought the comment that Seph made that if you couldn't decide what to do you could marry a rich husband was a bit telling about the environment

Flapjak · 15/06/2020 08:55

Whenever i read cases of these children, there always seems to be a parent in the background who struggles with any expression of femininity in their boy child, or a girl that has been forced to wear dresses and have long hair....also i wonder how many of these children will grow up to be in same biological sex relationships, i would imagine a significant majority....

TheThirdPigWasTooClever · 15/06/2020 08:56

Sometimes I think these trans activists actually transphobic, perhaps a wolf in sheep’s clothing to push to make them infertile. To me, the ideas some push, make me think they’re very sexist and really hate those not conforming to stereotypes so let’s neuter them.
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/06/2020 09:00

I couldn't get past the first paragraph.
These children are a victim of gender stereotypes. They need affirmation - that it's totally fine for girls not to like dresses or boys to like pink.

OldCrone · 15/06/2020 09:02

To answer my own question.

Gncq · 15/06/2020 09:04

I'm not sure it's always solely because of the mothers. Eg in the cases of Jackie Green and Paris Lees they were both little boys who liked playing with girly toys. They both had their favourite toys thrown away by their father. This seems to be quite a common story in MTFs, that "transing" was their way out of awful homophobic bullying on part of the father.
The mums, well, one of them went on to set up Mermaids so it was obviously important to her.

I haven't watched "I am Jazz" but do understand that poor child is simply exploited by every adult around them, not just Jazz's mum.

donquixotedelamancha · 15/06/2020 09:04

On the other are the vast majority of mental health professionals who study gender dysphoria insisting that affirming a child in whatever way they express their gender is beneficial to their mental health.

Utter bollocks. Encouraging a child to fully transition is explicitly against NHS guidance.

You can let a kid be who they want to be without lying about their sex.

Dreeple · 15/06/2020 09:05

I don’t see a “Comments” section in the Guardian piece.

NotBadConsidering · 15/06/2020 09:07

So many problems, least of all the fact it’s not a piece of journalism, it’s a piece of its own affirmation.

Where is the challenge? Where is the research? Just simple things like pointing out that the 14 year old whose voice has changed from testosterone has changed permanently?

Gncq · 15/06/2020 09:08

Munchausen by proxy is DEFINITELY involved in trans children.
Backtracking a bit, mums are indeed more likely to present with MHBP but homophobic bullying is more likely to be perpetrated by a dad.

SarahTancredi · 15/06/2020 09:10

Yes this has always puzzled me. While the rest of us had toddlers who cried because the sandwiches were cut the wrong way or the bread stick broke, and spent the day making you walk them with skipping ropes as they were a dog, these children are somehow articulate enough to say things like " when is god going to correct his mistake and give ne a vagina"

Yet when you see them interviewed they are still unable to speak that way. Even as adults they dont always come across as having that level of maturity or understanding either.

It just doesn't add up. At all.

Hellbentwellwent · 15/06/2020 09:25

😂 when the interviewer says they accidentally won the game 🙄 says it all really about their personality type, hard to keep that narcissism down isn’t it. I mean even if you had accidentally beaten a 7 year old child at a game why would you feel the need to include that fact in an article you were writing about gender identity... unless you were an insufferable narcissist
