Hi everyone, made an account for this.

Here are some other demographic forums reacting to the situation:

TheColi - large hiphop/sports forums:
www.thecoli.com/threads/jk-rowling-got-these-trehs-in-they-feelings-again.785351/ (give it a few pages Smile)

Lipstickalley - large forum focused on Black women & the culture:

  1. one of the 1st threads: www.lipstickalley.com/threads/the-body-shop-is-bullying-jk-rowling.3600309/

  2. Radcliffe response: www.lipstickalley.com/threads/daniel-radcliffe-responds-to-jk-rowling%E2%80%99s-tweets.3595003/

  3. Jk Rowling's essay : www.lipstickalley.com/threads/j-k-rowling-writes-about-her-reasons-for-speaking-out-on-sex-and-gender-issues-glaad-speaks.3599988/

  4. The Sun : www.lipstickalley.com/threads/wtf-jk-rowling%E2%80%99s-abusive-exhusband-tells-gossip-rag-%E2%80%9Ci-slapped-her-but-i%E2%80%99m-not-sorry%E2%80%9D.3605342/

Neogaf (revived one) - Gaming forum
www.neogaf.com/threads/j-k-rowling-gives-opinion-on-trans-issues-labelled-terf.1546947/

Seems no one wants her cast into the flames like the mob on twitter.

OP posts:
TheFormerPorpentiaScamander · 13/06/2020 04:25

Interesting reading, thanks.

Although I'm confused by a comment on one of them linking BLM and trans issues. They are separate things surely?

My friend in America (who I fell out with over this) thinks JKR is 'finished' because no one agrees with her Hmm

SailingAwayIntoSunrise · 13/06/2020 04:31

Thanks for sharing OP.

I've fallen down the rabbit hole with these!

Jamnotjelly · 13/06/2020 04:51

Me too - a long way down. From a poster on neogaf:

TERFs are women who don’t think men should be in control of feminism

Too darn right.

NonnyMouse1337 · 13/06/2020 07:37

Oh this is brilliant. Thanks for sharing. It's great to see a tiny fraction of what's being said in other online spaces by people who also live in the real world. Smile

Some of the responses made me laugh out loud. Shame we wouldn't be allowed to repost some of them here. I mean Mumsnet is such a hotbed of transphobia and hostility towards trans people... That's why we wouldn't be allowed to say the sort of things being said elsewhere.

Hey keyboard warriors! Don't be shy, I know you're lurking in the background. WAVES

I take it all of you will be rushing over to TheColi and NeoGaf to wag your fingers at the men there and tell them off for their words of literal violence and how they need to do better, right? Right? Let us know how your exploits as brave keyboard warriors go in 'educating' men about their 'transphobia'. You could even post on Twitter about how disappointed you are in them.

PurpleHoodie · 13/06/2020 07:59

Thanks for these links.

The TheColi one is funny. Get the clear sense they not only like JKR, but respect her also.

PurpleHoodie · 13/06/2020 08:00

Nonny.

They're too chicken to do that Grin

BatShite · 13/06/2020 08:02

Thanks. I frequent a few forums and have seen similar, but they tend to get deleted..and sometimes the poster banned for not demonizing a woman for knowing what a woman is.

Will read a bit more of these now. Lipstickally is possibly my fave site to lurk at the min. Won't join as it seems to be a space for black women, so its clearly not meant to me. But I still read the amazing women there, a lot.

Gncq · 13/06/2020 08:07

Ooh what about KiwiFarms?
What they sayin?

Gncq · 13/06/2020 08:14

Grin yep, video gamer gets it.

MonsteraCheeseplant · 13/06/2020 08:14

Many threads on Reddit (not just the GC subs) are bewildered by the backlash against JKR too.

youkiddingme · 13/06/2020 08:20

The thing I find interesting is that while the debate is, in the main, very polarised, the way those views are expressed is often also very different, but some people really cannot see anything but 'literal violence' in even the politest difference of opinion.
Regardless of where you stand in opinion, surely if stood back for even one second and looked objectively at two statements such as:
'I believe biological women need their own spaces for safety'
and
'Look the Terf's are attacking the most vulnerable members of society yet again, they can piss off and suck my - Harry Potter was my bloody hero and now I have to burn all my books'
surely that would give you a tiny hint as to which one might have given some reasonable, considered, thought to the matter.

What I would give to see one of them try though! 😂
wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 13/06/2020 08:24

Thank you.

NeedToKnow101 · 13/06/2020 08:29

Normal people everywhere supporting JKR. Thanks for sharing.
Would have been nice if the MSM has reported this correctly from the outset. E.g. factual pro-women statement by JKR countered with abuse and threats from male misogynist extremists.

The way they reported it validated the abuse she got on Twitter. And no comment from them on DAniel Radcliffe, and his sleb pals, public chastisement of her, which he might not even have done, if it wasn't for their narrative of her being the baddie in the first place. In the real world she's supported.

CourtneyLurve · 13/06/2020 08:30

I lurked the Harry Potter forum on reddit so you don't have to: the moderators are unanimously anti-women, and are deleting any posts that support Rowling. Loads of bewildered long-time posters asking where their comments in support of JK had gone, calling the bias unfair. The few I did spot before being deleted were upvoted massively.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 13/06/2020 08:33

Have just read the first link so far. Some of the things they say are awful!

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/06/2020 08:43

I posted on FB about how shocked I was by the responses to JKR with that picture with some of the abuse she's had.
I had 10 women support me and 1 who told me trans women are women. Interestingly I then had other people jump in with stop spouting sound bites and an example of a real life situation were a trans person passed away because of the insistence that TWAW, which must be awful for their family.

Anyway my point is I think 6 months ago I wouldn't have had such a response but people are starting to see the extremism & misogyny.

CourtneyLurve · 13/06/2020 08:45

Lipstick Alley and Mumsnet are both hugely popular sites for women. So, it's no surprise that they are among the two biggest voices highlighting the misogyny and sexism of the trans movement.

I'm in a couple of True Crime FB groups that tend to skew overwhelmingly female. When crimes committed by trans women come up, posters always highly the 'MRA' (men's rights activists) entitlement they display.

The common theme being that these are spaces safe from the ire of angry men.

Mass bannings on dspy for anyone who agrees with JKR, states only women menstruate, or refuse to accept being called 'cis', no matter how politely.

CourtneyLurve · 13/06/2020 08:54

Unbelievable, isn't it? There's a dspy refugee thread over at tattle where they are talking about it.

bishopgiggles · 13/06/2020 08:57

Great thread @TheHeartbeat !
Only reading the first one so far. Once you get past the horrendous language and outright "phobias" there are real insights in there (and funny posts e.g. Voldemort rising again)

feelingverylazytoday · 13/06/2020 08:58

They have form for it though. I'll go and look for that thread.

just looking at the Coli form and gotta say I love the little real life head expressions/ emoticons posters use. Just brilliant and so funny.

Datalounge has its own take. The mostly gay men who post there are broadly in favour of JKR.
