Why have mixed toilets become so popular now?

I am still fairly new to this debate but I am determined that we will keep our single sex spaces.

What I am wondering is - if transmen and transwomen have been using the gendered toilets they identify with for years - why is it only recently there has been a big push for mixed sex.toilets?

Yes popular with whom? I dislike them & Tbf most public toilets remain single sex or they do where I live

My partner is supportive of this because of the trouble he had finding baby changing facilities when our child was small.

However, he wants single, enclosed loos more like disabled toilets rather than cubicles and shared washing facilities.

(Just saying that it may be finding support from groups not aware of all the issues.)

Popular wasn't he corrected choice of words. I am just wondering why the big push for them NOW, in schools and various other places like restaurants.

The push really comes now to a degree because stonewall have now changed the definition of trans so it covers someone who cross dresses once a week right up to those who have had full on surgery. It has greatly increases the numbers of people we are talking about and now they class a woman as anyone who says they are a women we now face the prospect of any bloke being able to walk right in unchallenged.

Because adult males want access to all female spaces.

If you're talking about properly marked mixed sex toilets, my understanding of the rationale in schools etc is that a 'gender neutral' approach allows for non-binary people to be included. It also doesn't force people to declare their gender identity before they're ready (or risk triggering them by making them choose the 'wrong' facilities) through selecting a specific toilet in public. Plus you reduce the risk of a trans person being challenged for being in a facility for not looking the way they 'should' to fit with their gender identity.

This has just come from engaging more widely in the topic though, I'm afraid I don't have sources for it.

These gender neutral toilets however must be floor to ceiling walls and doors and contain a sink. Fully enclosed self contained units.

Unfortunately they are often not like that Sarah. I go to lots of different educational establishments for work and the toilets are often mixed sex with the usual cubicles and separate sinks. Each cubicle has a sanitary bin so I suppose that is what is meant. It is embarrassing to be using the loo with a male member of staff in the next cubicle. Especially now that I fart more readily than I used to. Sadly, men are going to find that women are not always fragrant and sexy if they push into our spaces.

But isn't it the case that all of these self contained cubicles still open out into an enclosed space? It has always been this way for me.

Now in the bid to be inclusive they eoyod rather risk people getting locked in, pushed in and assaulted, suffer from a fall/faint/asthma attack/allergy attack and no one be able to see or hear you...

We have them and I like them. I like having a sink in there, makes it easier for changing sanitary products. A lot of women I know find it easier to go for poo in an all enclosed cubicle like these too, where’s as before they would hold it in all day so I guess it’s been healthier.

Walking out into and enclosed space with men is no different to me than walking down a corridor with men or getting in a lift.

Was it the bbc or the home office that had to put notices up in their gender neutral toilets reminding men to close the doors?

@StarScream22 fair enough if you like them. But what about all the women ans girls that feel vulnerable? What do you say to them?

For me I am fine walking down a corridor because they are usually more populated with offices on multiple sides.

The last time I was in a mixed sex toilet a very drunk man that was about 6'5 began hammering on my door. I have seen similar happen to other women.

Sarah, women weren't using the Govt mixed sex ones. I don't blame them.

That must be the one then.i remember there being an article about a particularly woke employer who's own employees wouldnt use the toilets due to men not closing the door.

Our single sex toilets at work were changed to mix sex. Men would leave the door open.
We successfully reversed the decision.

And like the woman in the linked article says:

'None of my female colleagues feel comfortable using them.

'There was nothing wrong with the old toilets. Not one person ever complained. I don't want to hear a man going to the toilet and I don't want to make eye contact with him after I have been there.'

Why would anyone want mixed -sex toilets unless they had an agenda.

Okay it makes it easier to take photos under the doors and masturbating next to a woman using the toilet is fun for some (so they claim when they post about it) .

but surely most people just want to use the loo in peace and privacy. I don't believe that anyone ever thought "do you know I'd enjoy this better if there were some men in here" or vice versa.
