MNHQ want money from us

JellySlice · 08/04/2020 15:26

Perhaps now is the time to tell MNHQ what we want from them.

eg
Relaxation of the anti-women censorship rules.
Reinstating banned respected posters like LangCleg.

Maybe we can get Willis one of those clicky things that you can get to turn the lights on and off, but for FWR.

BigChocFrenzy · 10/04/2020 23:54

I signed up for a year, but I regard it as a donation
Despite being pissed off at the censorship and bans on FWR, the attempts to overrule science

If MN goes under, I would seriously miss it
No other place like it online for women to debate, certainly a rare exception that allows GC feminists at all

However, I live in Germany and I'm retired
If I were still working and in the UK, I'd be worried about a data breach and probably would not have donated

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 23:57

Why though?
I keep being brought up even when I'm AGREEING with people on points, da fluff is that all about lol
just whatever Grin
What has your clicky things comment got to do with my recent posts?
Like people are out to pick a fight and whah I'd agree with you but YOU said it and you smell so no Confused Grin

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 11/04/2020 00:02

Sorry Wotcha are you now saying that you’ve tried so hard to avoid this forum in the past because of its awfulness, but now you just accept it can’t be avoided and click on it and post multiple times per day?

WTAF are you talking about, sorry?
Nowhere have I said I accept it can't be avoided.
Just that I used to have it blocked.
That doesn't mean much though when it seems you can't block it as it still comes up in your sidebar.
Yes, it's now unhidden again. And I do post. As people tend to be allowed to. Confused

TinselAngel · 11/04/2020 00:05

one of those clicky things that you can get to turn the lights on and off

A light switch?

Or a Harry Potter deluminator?

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/04/2020 00:07

I haven't seen one since the 80s maybe but you clapped your hands and the lights turned on or off.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 00:17

I’ve just seen a pop up saying “Mumsnet needs your help”.

They didn’t help us.....or Lang...or women....made me wince a bit.

LilacTree1 · 11/04/2020 00:19

I do cringe at the begging bowl model of business though.

A straightforward “sign up for better features” would not have made me cringe.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 11/04/2020 00:25

Or a Harry Potter deluminator?

Ooh a deluminator would be cool
Turns out the lights but -
also has the added bonus of if you click it back on if you think you've had enough and walk away as it's all too toxic and blah (RAB's necklace and all that) you can just rejoin and find people again.
Kind of relevant lol
Nice one

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 11/04/2020 00:36

A Clapper is what you are thinking of perhaps? Unfortunately the reality did not live up to the expectations.
They mostly didn't work.

alloutoffucks · 11/04/2020 02:13

@LilacTree1 Me too.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 11/04/2020 03:03

Crushing my childhood faith in infomercials there, Bewilderness.

GCAcademic · 11/04/2020 06:33

Which is why as a bi BAME feminist I avoid

Several of us on here are BAME. There are lots of GC feminists who are. This assumption that we must think as a monolith because of our skin colour is really tedious.

HennyPenny4 · 11/04/2020 07:33

Covid 19 hasnt' ended. Imv people are sounding pretty blase and 'oh, well. If it folds it folds' and assuming its due to bad business sense that they need money now.
But after Covid 19 life may not return to what it was. Say 50% of businesses may have collapsed. The ones who take their places will possibly the ones who move fastest, the chancers with investment from outside the Uk, China maybe. Or the big US firms with billions behind them, some of whom don't pay their taxes here. I can easily see a new Fb Mn.
Anyway, I've paid, I can afford it. I would definitely miss it.

GCAcademic · 11/04/2020 08:08

I think many of us can afford it and would miss it. What I can't afford, given the particular nature of the "activists" on the other side of this debate, is to give my details to a business with such a lax attitude to keeping users' personal details secure.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/04/2020 08:12

Agree with GCA, I’m brown and a fan of FWR. We’re not a monolith.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/04/2020 08:34

I just read HQ’s comments on the Site Stuff board and ... yikes. Not good. Really minimising the seriousness of Emma publishing a user’s ISP.

I cannot overstate how concerning that is. People have been killed (accidentally) in swatting attempts gone wrong.

The fact that Emma was upset and soon deleted the post is... irrelevant. A screenshot lives for ever. Wow.

WeetabixBananaHipsterFFS · 11/04/2020 09:16

The fact that Emma was upset

Diddums.

KaronAVyrus · 11/04/2020 09:28

Emma soon dusted herself down because she’s got a great job now. 🙄
I won’t be giving Mumsnet my bank details because they have consistently proven they don’t take data security seriously.

StarintheMorning · 11/04/2020 09:52

I don’t understand why MN isn’t giving us the option of a crowdfunder.

They are not getting my bank details, I don’t want any staff member to have access to those details, because it has been shown that not everyone at MNTowers can be trusted, and when there is a breakdown in trust little is done about it.

I am prepared to support MN financially, rather than see it disappear. I’m not interested in doing it in order to get rid of ads. I don’t like the idea of a two tier system.

2BthatUnnoticed · 11/04/2020 10:07

I would much rather donate to a crowdfunder than create a two-tier system tbh. A lot of people want to donate rather than subscribe - hopefully this option will be made available.

KaronAVyrus · 11/04/2020 10:16

I would donate to a crowd funder.

MaryHill · 11/04/2020 10:28

They don't want donations because it looks like charity.

They want subscriber numbers which can then be punted to advertisers.

MaryHill · 11/04/2020 10:42

eg: M&s is offering the first lucky 100 mumsnet subscribers 20% off their new spring range ...the theory being that mumsnet will drive traffic to M&S ( ok, unlikely to be M&S but you get the point) making it worthwhile for businesses to promote on mumsnet.

XX number of subscribers has much more commercial worth than well meaning donations.

StarintheMorning · 11/04/2020 10:44

If we started a fundraiser for MN would they refuse to accept any money raised?
