MNHQ want money from us

JellySlice · 08/04/2020 15:26

Perhaps now is the time to tell MNHQ what we want from them.

eg
Relaxation of the anti-women censorship rules.
Reinstating banned respected posters like LangCleg.

Well Vitreous, you're on the wrong thread, then. This one is about the request from MN for money from it's users in the form of a subscription. Perhaps you should start another thread about your disapproval of the women here who have apparently not borne any cost in the past few years. I'm sure you'll have any number of eager takers.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 21:59

many posters who have gravitated to FWR also either now or previously have also contributed some or a lot to supporting other MNers across a range of boards

That's certainly the case with me so agree there - started off on the rest of the boards, still do on the rest of the boards but ended up "gravitating" to FWR as you say
I use both and probably a lot of other people do too

Pertella · 10/04/2020 22:03

Oh are you saying you choose to post here now Willis?

This name confusion has happened several times. Usually more difficult to detect than this obvious one. Trolls were replacing an l with a capital i in new user names to fake their identity and "ratfuck" members.

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 10/04/2020 22:20

It is certainly only a place for discussion if you essentially agree.

I think you will find that to be the case in most political movements, and Feminism is no exception.
If you were not essentially in agreement with Feminism why would you even come to the Feminist board.

Smile I would agree that there's probably more 'history' to get to grips with and a bit of familiarity with current/past issues compared with other boards. People are wary of goady/derailers.

"It is certainly only a place for discussion if you essentially agree. "

I disagree! People disagree on all sorts. If you are genuinely willing to engage, discussion is valuable.

alloutoffucks · 10/04/2020 22:28

Not my experience here. If you don't agree you get called a troll. And I am a feminist.

WhatKatyDidNot · 10/04/2020 22:32

Some quite spectacular redirecting going on in this thread.

I read, for my sins, all forty pages of the Site Stuff thread, including the OP and the many subsequent posts written by Justine.

She was very clear. The reason for the precipitate rollout of a half-baked subscription premium membership is falling ad revenues caused by the Covid 19 pandemic. The main fixed cost is staffing at £350k per month and even furloughing some staff and reduced hours for others isn't sufficient saving. There is little in the way of cash reserves because Justine wanted to buy others out and spentthe profit on that instead. This is also why the site continues to creak on in its antiquated infrastructure. Justine gave plenty of detail.

Nothing whatsoever to withthefeminismboard causing revenue loss.

Some regulars on the feminist board consider the site too untrustworthy to provide personal data for payments and/or feel that the management is too censorious for them to pay for the privilege of providing the content that the site makes its revenue from. So they have declined Justine's Premium Membership offer.

Again, nothing whatsoever to do with the feminism board causing revenue loss.

So I don't know why we've had half a dozen pages discussing this possibility. It's nothing to do with the Premium Membership offer - unless we all think Justine just made up the pandemic-fucking-the-economy stuff off the top of her head. I'm sure nobody actually thinks that, especially if they have super-special insider knowledge. I can't imagine why anyone would want to redirect the discussion to the feminism board causing revenue loss - which has nothing to do with anything - over half a dozen pages... or perhaps I can.

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 10/04/2020 22:33

Spending reserves to consolidate stakeholders instead of improving infrastructure is the same thing corporations did with their enormous 2017 Trump tax break here in the US. Now they are requesting a bailout, of course.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 22:35

Oh are you saying you choose to post here now Willis?

You what?
I said I started off on the main boards and then came here too.
Which others have said, ie the bit I bolded and quoted.
Or am I not allowed to agree with someone?!
Fuck sake lol

I always choose to post "here." Even if I do think some of the threads are yak.
(For want of a better word, it's getting late lol)

We are most definitely a product.

Are we? Or are we the artisans creating the product?

I haven't visited any other parenting sites in years, but the posts on other parenting sites never had the sharp intelligence of Mumsnet. They were never as funny. I never came away from them feeling that my world had ben expanded.

Mumsnet is what it is because of us.

Why drive us away?

Wotcha you said you try your best to avoid seeing these threads but get sucked in when they’re on Active. Is there anything else we can do to stop you seeing such awfulness? There’s a button down 👇 there that says “I’m On”. DON’T CLICK ON IT. If you avoid that you can stay away from the whole FWR board that you said you are trying to avoid. Good luck Flowers

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 23:25

No, just for clarity I did say I did hide the board at one point. Then quickly realised there's not much feckin point when it still keeps coming up via Active lol.
You'll just randomly click on a thread that sounds interesting, doesn't mention trans or FWR board at all and get suckered in again is what I meant Grin
Like FFS lol

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/04/2020 23:28

unless we all think Justine just made up the pandemic-fucking-the-economy stuff off the top of her head

I mean, for starters I'm fairly sure the economy being fucked is not a thing that only Justine has noticed. Has everyone else been that busy trying to find the one remaining bottle of hand sanitizer in all the land that they hadn't noticed?

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 10/04/2020 23:31

Same

Dyrne · 10/04/2020 23:31

So, I work for a large, well known company that gets a lot of aggro on social media. It’s hard to see people criticising a company I know me and my colleagues work so hard for.

Every so often after a few G&Ts I’m tempted to wade in to say “hey, what you’re saying isn’t true, I work for [company] and we actually do X,Y and Z. Be fair”.

VitreousHumour has just proven to me why that would be a spectacularly bad idea, and I shall continue to sit on my hands and not engage Grin

NotBadConsidering · 10/04/2020 23:31

If a person does a “sad face” story for the Daily Mail, how much do you think they get paid? Couple of hundred? Couple of thousand if it’s big?

Do they pay 50 quid to get their story in the paper? Or pay 50 quid to have their words quoted?

If you pay for the Premium service, you’re paying for fewer ads, which aren’t a problem with ad blocker, and you’re paying for your posts, comments and threads to be quoted by anyone, any publication or newspaper to run it, and any screenshot on Twitter to be used. You would be paying for that privilege Hmm.

No, and no again.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 10/04/2020 23:37

No shit, that was a "step away from the ipad with your hands up" moment if ever there was one.

And again, there is a reason "PR person" is an actual job. For the love of god hire one.

NotBadConsidering · 10/04/2020 23:37

Sorry Wotcha are you now saying that you’ve tried so hard to avoid this forum in the past because of its awfulness, but now you just accept it can’t be avoided and click on it and post multiple times per day?

I see. Thanks. Stay strong, if it gets too awful, remember those strategies we’ve given you to leave (close browser etc). Flowers

TheBewildernessisWeetabix · 10/04/2020 23:47

I'm talking about a much broader issue, which is that it is axiomatic on this board that posters have a justified grievance against MNHQ. And a perverse refusal to acknowledge that the continued existence of this board has come at a price, and that this price has been paid by MNHQ and not by you.

You mean the security breaches and the doxxing? Where women lost their jobs and were harassed for months because of MN lax security? Is that the price you mean?
