The GDPR was very clear that release of data of individuals which was misused for political activism could potentially cause real harm to people and that this might be considered an aggravating factor in any breach.

boatyardblues · 03/03/2020 19:01

It seems there are really no depths TRAs and their hangers-on will not plumb to shut down debate. I hope Posie takes it to the ICO too.

Cwenthryth · 03/03/2020 19:03

Seems the number is elsewhere online, although not on the standing for women site.

Still don’t mind having reported it - it can be looked into to confirm no breach.

Thinkingabout1t · 03/03/2020 19:07

Because trans women are women and the dictionary definition excludes them.

Hilarious. Of course the dictionary is wrong. What do lexicographers know about words? What do scientists know about biology?

The only people who can be transwomen are men. Now that is a word that excludes women.

GrumpyGran8 · 03/03/2020 19:33

There is an IWD flag, which has a stylised Venus logo in the design.
That's actually a copyrighted trademark. It's the property of a company that sells IWD packs and campaign materials, and support for "female-related projects". Here's their main website: www.aurora-ventures.com/
and here's their IWD site: www.internationalwomensday.com/Logo Notice how you can't use their logo until they've vetted and approved you.
The company, incidentally, is run by a man oops, sorry a person with a typically male name who doesn't advertise their preferred pronouns.

Cwenthryth · 03/03/2020 19:52

I do resent a day to celebrate women’s rights - which what, started in Russia over 100 years ago I think? Has somehow become a brand.

No thanks.

GrumpyGran8 · 03/03/2020 20:07

It didn't start in Russia, but it was certainly begun by women socialists, communists and women workers: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Women%27s_Day#History

Yes, IWD is now a brand.Sad Somebody noticed the amount of money being made out of Pride and saw the gap in the market.

EverardDigby · 03/03/2020 20:22

I think the Green Party or the Council would be the data controllers. Not sure which.

It would be the Council who received the email in the first place. Personal data is anything that identifies an individual, and I think bullets one and three below would be applicable. Owain could be argued to be an individual, but he might have got someone else in trouble.

Cwen I don't think drawing attention to a doxxing and GDPR breach on a public forum is very sensible, it just helps spread the information further.

BacklashStarts · 03/03/2020 20:38

You can report that 1:10 people vs 1:10 women error to the uk statistics authority. They’ve slapped orgs wrists for less.

OhHolyJesus · 03/03/2020 22:14

I've made a few calls and reports this evening. Off to watch PPs latest video on YouTube now.

Read the piece about endometriosis on BBC earlier. 1 in 10 women it says.

1 in 10 people is a bonkers rewrite! I mean. WTF. Post fact world I suppose.

FrogsFrogs · 04/03/2020 00:22

I suppose though, if words mean whatever you want them to mean, then this is the way it goes.

Crime stats are already getting, um, interesting because the police record gender rather than sex, on a self declared basis. Most surveys etc seem to want gender not sex. Census in Scotland was being lined up to not count sex.

People have said it's ok because the numbers of trans people are small. And in the background, most people filling things in think gender means sex.

But, it is significant. The principle is significant.

The rewriting of the endometriosis stat shows up where this ends. It ends with noone knowing wtf is what.

Cwenthryth · 04/03/2020 00:54

I did hesitate, but it’s already on Harrop’s twitter (he has 12k followers), but hence no links etc. If Harrop had hidden the tweet then my writing about it here wouldn’t have revealed anything.

MoleSmokes · 04/03/2020 12:36

Great video from Posie about this:

"Illegal Woman"

The doxxing is very serious given what some deranged individuals on Twitter are proposing to do with the personal details disclosed. (I am not going to repeat or post screenshots).

I hope, but do not expect, that the police would consider this as significantly more "harassing" than misgendering. It puts Posie and her family in some danger so all credit to her for not whimpering and whining about being "victimised" but taking it in her stride.

This exchange on Twitter made me think that that silly "gender spectrum" that Mermaids promotes should be countered by one that replaces Barbie at one extreme with an "Action Woman" doll Grin

TRA 1: "I for one would love to know how a random person approaches a council with a flag and says "fly this for me" and they just do without question or investigation at all?

Will there be answers?"

TRA 2: "They can't just put a flag up without requesting it and it being discussed... As a community organisation it's never an easy task to have it done."

GC Halo : "Maybe it was some kind of Ninja Woman under the cover of darkness."

I just posted this video from Julia Hartley-Brewer and Posie published today.

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2020 13:51

If there are some GC flagpole-climbers, maybe IWD should be marked by the flying of sturdy sports bras (a garment which can be truly liberating) and maternity bras?

MoleSmokes · 04/03/2020 17:08

Winesalot thank you for that link!

theflushedzebra · 04/03/2020 18:54

I love Posie so much Thanks

OhHolyJesus · 04/03/2020 19:02

How are all the councils who didn't fly the flag but were asked, or Sefton who did but then took it down, going to square this when it's Pride Month Summer and it's rainbow and trans flags everywhere?

You're either allowed to be political or you're not. You're either allowed to make a statement of support or you're not.

Ok so we know had it confirmed they are not for women but they can't then be for something else...and if they really are for everyone but women, well, we've got them haven't we?

ThinEndoftheWedge · 04/03/2020 19:53

@BacklashStarts You can report that 1:10 people vs 1:10 women error to the uk statistics authority. They’ve slapped orgs wrists for less.

Macmillan Cancer state 3200 people a year are diagnosed with cervical cancer in the UK.

I asked them to correct ‘people’ to ‘women’ and informed them that that their language halved the incidence, that it was biologically and statistically inaccurate and alienated their target patient population.

I am happy to inform the UK stats authority - do you have any advice/contact? This could be useful for lots of bullshit health literature.

ThinEndoftheWedge · 04/03/2020 20:19

@BacklashStarts

I will still informthe stats office - but I’ve just realised they’ll probably change ‘people’ to ‘cervix-haver’s’ which is even worse!

StealthPolarBear · 04/03/2020 20:31

ErrolTheDragon and a tiny pack of contraceptive pills

BacklashStarts · 04/03/2020 22:14

@ThinEndoftheWedge I emailed the stats authority yesterday. I don’t know if they have any power over charitable orgs but they do over public sector .

ErrolTheDragon · 04/03/2020 23:18

StealthPolarBear - well, that was momentarily a puzzling post as I'd forgotten my last contribution. More like a large box of vagifem nowadays. GrinThey wouldn't really work on a flagpole but I suppose we could assemble a collage.
