God forbid women go out when they menstruate

Thread with discussion of what was actually said:

Collidascope · 25/02/2020 19:36

Pink News is a rank, flaming cesspit of shit. I'll never vote Tory but thank goodness some of their MPs have the guts to speak out about this crap.

Doyoumind · 25/02/2020 19:38

They are utter misogynists and can't even be called journalists. They are also running a story claiming it is against the law for Duncan Bannatyne not to allow trans women into female changing rooms. Do they even care about the truth? Do they just want to blatantly lie about the law or do they not even know what the law really is?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/02/2020 19:39

This was the Lords - cons and cross benches good, labour meh, LD ... one was truly shameful.

Re pink news, do their 'journalists' have a competition for biggest ratio or something?Confused

Dances · 25/02/2020 20:02

Thanks Errol but I thought that Pink News article merited a thread of its own. I swear that my eye stretches with this shit must be as good as botox. The overuse of gin does counter however...

I actually rather like this article (don't often say that about Penis News!). It seems to me pretty impossible to read it without agreeing with Their Lordships!

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 25/02/2020 20:16

Not that that was the intention of course, but it almost reads that way 😄

MindTheMinotaur · 25/02/2020 20:27

Just coming on to say that hag, they seem to have covered a lot of the main points. I'd missed the bit from Lord Blencathra that the government should be taking into account 32 million women rather than tens of thousands of transgender people. Covered unwanted behaviour, penises in changing rooms and the fact that even men get flashed in the toilets.

Some lip service to tacking men's behaviour rather than maintaining single sex spaces but that argument holds equally true for educating men to accept transwomen in their toilets.

I wonder what's going on. Quite a prominent TWAW gay MP has suddenly gone very, very quiet on the issue. Could there be disquiet?

Dances · 25/02/2020 20:44

Oh I am so in support of the Second Chamber... Up the Lords....

This is a tweet from the journo who wrote this shameful piece. I am shocked, this is vile misogyny and the worst thing is celebs will still rock up to their award ceremonies.

That is vile misogyny - I wouldn't expect anything else from a PN writer, of course. And I use the word "writer" with caution. "Creator of TRA propaganda" would be more accurate.

allmywhat · 25/02/2020 21:04

These few paragraphs are so mindblowingly stupid even by TRA standards.

It apparently did not occur to Lord Lucas that the better solution, rather than maintaining the status quo of women having a “space where they can be free of… overt male sexual behaviours” could be to work harder to address sexual harassment and male violence against women.

And also for men to be cleaner.

“Many men – they have even flashed me – act in such a way, and it seems reasonable that women should have a space where they can be free of that,” Lucas said, an entirely reasonable point that misses the wider, also entirely reasonable point: that women should not be flashed by men anywhere.

Clearly we should abolish the police! An even better solution than catching criminals after they commit murder, would be for no one to murder anyone in the first place! Why didn't anyone ever think of this before me! I have solved all crime everywhere. Bow before my genius - but I must give at least partial credit to Vic Parsons, my inspiration. I stand on the shoulders of unfathomable idiots.

Sorry didn't show up until refresh.

Who the fuck are these men telling women that their experiences of periods are ridiculous.

I used to throw up for a day if I didn't take medication within the first 30 mins of pain. Huge clots of blood. Contractions were v familiar as it turned out.

No fucking idea

UpfieldHatesWomen · 25/02/2020 21:14

I thought Lord Lucas was absolutely brilliant, he covered a range of points gathered from women directly and it's really refreshing to have a man not shy away from talking about women having to deal with their periods in public toilets. It's a fact of life for god's sake. Pink News is just dripping in misogyny, they clearly have no idea about women's experiences and hate that we're getting our voices heard. Yes, Pink News, I've just had my period and my mooncup came out of place, flooded my underwear and my trousers, why is that so hard for you to understand, it's hardly uncommon. If you're going to keep pushing this issue, we're going to keep talking about icky stuff like periods, I'm afraid.

SadlyMissTaken · 25/02/2020 21:22

Vic, the editor of that piece, is a woman.

SadlyMissTaken · 25/02/2020 21:22

Writer sorry, not editor

theflushedzebra · 25/02/2020 21:28

I too am very supportive of the Lords - they can be such a voice of reason.

I truly saw their "voice of common sense and steadying hand on the govt" worth when they blocked the tax credits things a few years ago and so infuriated George Osborne. This has cemented it.

But they don't block stuff that is in an elected parliament's manifesto - as that is seen as the will of the electorate - so if a party gets in who puts self ID on their manifesto (not too likely any time soon!) the Lords won't save us.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 25/02/2020 21:33

Agreed - the notion that the "better"/simpler solution would be to just wave a magic wand and stop all male violence (not like we've been trying to do that for, like, ever, is it?) and that this will be so immediately successful that we can just get rid of all existing safeguards, is beyond bonkers. Especially the idea that this would be easier than maintaining the status quo!

As for the flashing thing, it clearly hasn't occurred to this eejit that turning toilets and changing rooms mixed-sex (especially if urinals are involved) means women and girls are subjected to unwanted penis sightings as a matter of routine, the difference being (apart from the massively increased frequency) that we now can't do anything about it as we'll just be told the penis has a right to be there!

LangSpartacusCleg · 25/02/2020 21:34

It is a shame Lord Lucas is in the Lords and not the Commons because I would happily vote for him.

theThreeofWeevils · 25/02/2020 21:40

I stand on the shoulders of unfathomable idiots

A streak of batpiss, that, and I mean that as a compliment, allmywhat. I might, ehm, borrow it on occasion if that's OK.

Impressed with Lord Lucas.

zanahoria · 25/02/2020 21:41

"and it's really refreshing to have a man not shy away from talking about women having to deal with their periods in public toilets."

truly challenging gender stereotypes

theflushedzebra · 25/02/2020 22:20

Agree - Lord Lucas really took on board all the comments on his twitter thread from women. Women's voices were actually heard.

Binterested · 25/02/2020 22:24

God what utter creeps they are
