Just saw this on Twitter. Should be interesting...

Exactly, she was hectoring and badgering to such an extent that it was difficult to concentrate on what he was saying.

And I'm familiar with his views on this subject and was rooting for him.

His handshakes and leg wobbles didn't help.

He didn't come across well, faced with her I don't see how he could have done really, very sad.

I'm so angry!

HandsOffMyLangCleg · 10/02/2020 23:33

She said it was "ridiculous' that confused children were being told they were born in the wrong body.

She had zero evidence to back her response.

I'm angry too.

Melroses · 10/02/2020 23:34

She didn't really try and take anything apart forensically; it was all attack, attack.

It would be nice to see some of the women on there, but they aren't men are they?

BitterAndOnlySlightlyTwisted · 10/02/2020 23:35

Thank you so much Glinner!

Even if most of the audience may have been unfamiliar with the matter under discussion, I daresay they can spot a rude and aggressive interviewer when they see one. You did fantastically well under the circs.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 10/02/2020 23:36

She should have shut up and listened.

theseriousmoonlight · 10/02/2020 23:37

Totally agree with PP that Sarah Smith was focused on the Nazi comment. She seemed to miss his very valid points entirely and dismissed his argument about children being tested on as he wasn't a qualified doctor. I'm not a qualified doctor but I tend to agree with Glinner. As does my DP, who is a qualified doctor.

I found the whole 'interview' baffling. Why ask questions then interrupt answers, dismiss responses? Why go around in circles about 'toxicity' and claim your interviewee has made inflammatory remarks but not listen to his reasons?

NotAssigned · 10/02/2020 23:38

An utter car crash unfortunately. Well-intentioned but will have done us no favours.

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2020 23:38

I think he came out better than Smith

I was like wtaf is she doing here. This is an interview so we the audience could understand what was lineham being interviewed about

She was crap as that is her job. So we the audience can understand why he was on the show

AbsintheFriends · 10/02/2020 23:38

Honestly, I think the nervousness was fine. It's real and honest. He's been very clear that he finds himself speaking on this issue almost reluctantly, because a man's voice is heard where a woman's is not. That's precisely what the piece in the DM at the weekend was about - he's speaking as someone with no skin in the game and it's taken its toll on him.

Newsnight are part of the fucking problem. Get women on. Let them speak and LISTEN TO THEIR VIEWS.

testing987654321 · 10/02/2020 23:38

She said it was "ridiculous' that confused children were being told they were born in the wrong body

This is a learning point, the answer needed is that even if people aren't telling kids they were born in the wrong body, they are definitely agreeing with them when children say this. And giving them medication to stop puberty. And then giving them "cross sex" hormones. Since when did we collude with children's delusions?

theseriousmoonlight · 10/02/2020 23:39

Yes @littlbrowndog, I wonder who she would interview? My DP and I wondered if there would be a 'counter argument' stance person. I thought it would Monroe Bergdorf if there was.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/02/2020 23:40

Set-up, that's why.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 10/02/2020 23:40

Could it have been set up to counteract the fantastic, clear, concise articles that he wrote in the Sunday Times and, was it The Mail, yesterday?

Destinysdaughter · 10/02/2020 23:40

I'm amazed that Graham himself is being so gracious about this :

Seventeen year old girl we know has had a double mastectomy. Seventeen ! How many of us were capable of making life changing decisions at that age ?
Glinner is bloody brave.

littlbrowndog · 10/02/2020 23:42

Tbh I have never seen an interviewer fail to get the whole point of her job so completely as Sarah Smith tonight

Bizarre work there Sarah Smith

NotAssigned · 10/02/2020 23:42

I'm also not sure that anyone, except actual Nazis should be compared to Nazis.

Invoking Nazi comparisons usually means that you have lost the argument.

I have a lot of admiration for what Graham has done but he is much better behind the keyboard than in front of the screen.

AnotherLass · 10/02/2020 23:45

Just read comments on Twitter, sadly I don't think that interview did him any favours.

The people who already hate him will use it as an opportunity to say so. That's all it is.

A lot of people will have been alerted to the issues a bit more from that. And unless you already think that he is someone motivated by hate and are interpreting everything through that lens, I doubt that you would have got that impression from that interview. Most people really don't know much about it.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 10/02/2020 23:47

Don't give him an easy time, fine, but let him finish a sodding sentence!

womanaf · 10/02/2020 23:47

I think if you came to that segment like a normal person and not one of us, you’d have exactly no clue what it was about.

AutumnCrow · 10/02/2020 23:48

All I could hear for so much of it was an interviewer talking very loudly over the interviewee.

womanaf · 10/02/2020 23:48

(Which is on Sarah Smith, not Glinner.)

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 10/02/2020 23:52

I agree womanaf, he didn't get a chance to enlighten or inform anyone who was new to the issue.

Kantastic · 10/02/2020 23:54

I think if you came to that segment like a normal person and not one of us, you’d have exactly no clue what it was about.

You could well start wondering though. There were certainly things said that would catch people's interest even if they were overall confused - like about the thirty five psychologists resigning, the hinge moment in history, the rape threats. It would be really interesting to know what an uninformed viewer without preconceptions would make of that interview - unfortunately Twitter won't be able to tell us.

BiologyIsReal · 10/02/2020 23:55

She has seriously been got at. That wasn’t an interview. It was an interrogation. Talk about hostile. She had clearly made her mind up before he spoke. How can someone supposed to be intelligent be so stupid?
