New ‘this girl can’ ad praised for showing tampon string

On the one hand - great for showing that being on your period doesn’t stop you from taking part in sport. But having been educated about some of the horrific fetishisation of tampons and visible strings that goes on among certain networks am I wrong to feel uncomfortable about it? I don’t bleed any more but when I did I don’t think I ever left a string hanging out of my knickers either.

I saw it and just thought you uncomfortable that would be. Nothing worse than an errant string - gets caught in the knicker leg elastic and just pulls.

Yes, they are trying to hard there, and the string hanging out of the knickers is weird and it worries me that she might catch it on something

They could have just had a brief glimpse of a box of tampons in the dressing room.

I saw the ad earlier - it doesn't sit right with me not just because it's asking to have it pulled out when you catch it wrong (it is) but mainly because, thanks to the ghastly Yaniv, I now know there are creeps out there with active tampon fetishes

I see what they are trying to do but agree that it is uncomfortable viewing due to fetishists. Yes Melroses, there are probably better ways of saying "you can exercise during your period".

There’s a screenshot of a conversation where yaniv is asking if you see strings hanging down in female changing rooms, isn’t there (not envy). Now they’ve got their wish.

It's an awesome advert and normalises sport for women, in particular menstruating women.

Great inclusive campaign to bring about much needed change to keep women playing sport.

In all my 45 + years, I've yet to leave a string visible myself and I've never seen one visible on someone else. Doesn't happen. Mind you, I don't actively look for them.

This ad is a bit try hard. I get what they're trying to do but still. Great for the pervs though!

I don't have any strong feelings about fetishists (there are fetishists about EVERYTHING, I assume), but I agree they are trying too hard and a box of tampons in a changing room would have been better.

Agreed, box in the shot, with lots of smiling faces and happy laughter, or a tampon in a hand rushing to push on the toilet door.

The 2017 phenomenal woman one had older women in it.

I've just watched it and think it's a great advert. The tampon string is just a one second part of a full one min advert.

Hadn't seen this one, either, it's great. I think it's about the tune they pick as well as the images. This year's isn't quite as catchy, but I still like it.
