New ‘this girl can’ ad praised for showing tampon string

On the one hand - great for showing that being on your period doesn’t stop you from taking part in sport. But having been educated about some of the horrific fetishisation of tampons and visible strings that goes on among certain networks am I wrong to feel uncomfortable about it? I don’t bleed any more but when I did I don’t think I ever left a string hanging out of my knickers either.

Totally pointless part of the ad. Disappointing as the ads are usually great but this one has missed the mark, not least because my first thought was “how long must that tampon string be?!”

The string bit is fine I think. It’s just sending a message saying don’t worry if you’re on your period, there’s nothing to be ashamed of. That bit is filmed in a changing room. With only women in it.

I've now watched it and I like the add! The string placement is obviously awkward and not where it would be in real life, but it's no different or worse than showing the absorbant power of pads by using blue liquid. The add highlights what I always say, women are amazing.
