Jess Phillips pile on on Twitter

It seems to have gone now, but I saw this morning on Twitter Jess Phillips MP, saying that the five gc questions to candidates seemed reasonable, there were some supportive tweets, and then there was a huge pile on from a lot of people saying TWAW and a certain amount of abuse.

Anyone know what happened here?

I don't like Jess. I think she'd throw us under the bus for a chance at leader. Without much thought. Sorry.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/12/2019 22:59

Wouldn't wish a pile on on anyone. Totally outrageous that this is now seen as acceptable behaviour, or even, ridiculously, 'activism '. Obama was spot on about call out culture.

Having seen that Young Labour woman’s fanatical bullying, I think I am quite content for the Labour Party to disappear entirely if that’s what it’s future looks like.

NotDavidTennant · 16/12/2019 23:03

The Corbynistas don't like independent minds, and especially not independently-minded women like Jess.

DeeZastris · 16/12/2019 23:05

Do they realise how batshit insane they come across as? 🤦‍♀️

Cwenthryth · 16/12/2019 23:10

Her comment on WPUK demands was 2 years ago; the article about importing brides for disabled men was 4 years ago. The story now is bullying from Momentum/Corbynistas ahead of the leadership election.

Let the sunlight in!

popehilarious · 16/12/2019 23:10

David Allen Green has dismissed GC women as TERFs, I was disappointed to read a while ago.

GCAcademic · 16/12/2019 23:15

There’s also people on that Young Labour loon’s thread complaining about what Jess hasn’t said, for example uttered specific words of support for disabled people.

If this the brave new frontier of woke armchair activism? Trawling through people’s Twitter feeds to ascertain what they haven’t said?

theflushedzebra · 16/12/2019 23:16

I actually have always liked Jess, she's a strong woman, with very feminist principles - although it's of course possible that what Lang says is true.

I just want to say: "the fucking state of the Labour Party!" - the absolute state of it. And they wonder why there was a Tory landslide??

Cwenthryth · 16/12/2019 23:44

Conversely there are also posts on GC Twitter dragging up old tweets of Angela Rayners as proof she’s in the TWAW camp, so ‘both sides’ are at it. I don’t think AR is the target of so much vitriol or the same level of abuse as JP though. Shocking.

Catmaiden · 17/12/2019 00:30

I must admit I was slightly surprised to see no one else had posted on here about all this, much earlier. But I understand there is so much crap online, its difficult to spot everything.
It does seem to be a concerted, or Co ordinated attack of the Clones. (sorry, been watching Rogue One just now!)

I like Jess but I think you're right, she would throw us under the bus. I thought she was uncharacteristically nervous during that select committee hearing on DV and refuges.

I would take Jess over Angela Rayner. Didn’t she cosy up to LM, saying she would keep the bench in the HoC warm for them?

justcly · 17/12/2019 01:55

My favourite tweet of that pile on was "She can't accept the scientific fact that gender is a spectrum." I'm still laughing.

Catmaiden · 17/12/2019 02:04

I know! Which bit of sex don't they understand.
I'm a scientist.
It's bonkers

I don't like Jess and I don't trust her. I want her nowhere near the front bench, along with Angela Rayner.

I think the TRAs have turned so heavily on her because they thought of her of as an ally.

I like David Allen Green but didn't realise he was one of the woke blokes.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 17/12/2019 07:30

I really hope that labour party decision makers dont mistake the voting preferences of the electorate with a twitter trend.

They have just made that mistake. They need to choose a winner.

My MP was criticised for not posting about TDOR. Because of course that should have been her top priority in the midst of an election campaign (a successful one thankfully as she's a very good MP, although her vote share was down on 2017).

Anyway, they're coming for Jess big time, which suggests to me that she's doing something right.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 17/12/2019 08:55

As far as I was aware Phillips was supportive of TWAW nonsense. Obviously not supportive enough for the loons guaranteeing Labour's next election defeat.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 17/12/2019 09:05

I think she was supportive of TWAW. So was I, once upon a time. Then, not so much. Now, not at all.

I think this is the natural bell curve of a peak.

Lordamighty · 17/12/2019 09:09

From what I have heard so far Labour have learned absolutely nothing from their election defeat.

Good point!

Joisanofthedales · 17/12/2019 09:24

Sorry I don't trust her. I agree with Lang

I'm not at all sure that the Labour party, or certainly momentum, even know what a winner looks like. They seem determined to keep flying the same flag.

All of this business about it needing to be a woman.....I'm not so sure.what is needed is the best candidate. At present, given the way it is going...whoever is elected is going to have a very rough time.

I recall being very disappointed with Jess Philips during the select committee. As someone has said - she was incredibly reticent all of a sudden.

LangCleg · 17/12/2019 09:46

I honestly think Jess would put any and all political principle to one side in favour of her career. I think she is probably GC but it doesn't count for much for this reason.
