I've just read this article - sounds like a very sensible book, soo went straight to Amazon to buy a copy, but it's 'currently unavailable' 🤔

MrsJamin · 16/12/2019 06:41

Body acceptance is like reading about terrorism propaganda... ShockHmmConfused

Igneococcus · 16/12/2019 06:44

I checked as well Elfride I thought I buy a few and dot them around the local book exchanges. Might get the from Transgender Trend.

I've just ordered it from Transgender Trend, will be useful for the vulnerable children I work with.

Datun · 16/12/2019 06:52

Authors Aloud said: “Rachel Rooney works with us in her capacity as a poet. We’ve had nothing but praise and compliments for the sessions she runs in schools so we’ve got absolutely no plans to stop working with her.”

Excellent.

And, as ever, the Streisand effect will have everyone rushing to see what all the fuss is about.

SarahTancredi · 16/12/2019 07:00

Your perfect the way you are- hate speak 2019.

Why are they so scared. If its crap if its lies if its blatantly anti anything people will see wont they?

All they will find is a book about children being told there nothing wrong with them.

BovaryX · 16/12/2019 07:04

The inflammatory tweets quoted in this article are yet further proof of the dictatorial, bullying attacks which seem to characterize many in this lobby. At a time when social media is causing increasing anxiety in children about their appearance, how can the book’s message not be a positive thing?
As Datun says, this brouhaha will increase publicity and book sales. This again is a free speech issue and highlights the intolerance of those who want to silence and intimidate women artists.

BeardedVulture · 16/12/2019 07:06

It’s my GNC son’s 4th birthday today and one of our gifts for him was this book. I am so thankful for Rachel and Jessica to have created such a lovely book with a positive message for small kids. It’s completely insane that they’re being monstered for it.

BessyK · 16/12/2019 07:12

I think Rachel's book is still available to buy direct from Transgender Trend.

stillathing · 16/12/2019 07:23

What a perfect example of how backwards (literally & figuratively) this movement is.

Teaching all children to love their body and realise they inhabit their body is terrorism. Whereas seeking to prevent the author from working and the book being stocked in schools and libraries, when you can't even explain what the problem is, is totally normal behaviour.

Has anybody alerted the yoga and mindfulness industries yet that they are peddling transphobic hate?

stillathing · 16/12/2019 07:27

Just to add I bought it for my toddler, as a worthy kind of gesture. Not prepared for how much he loves it! The illustrations are so sweet, he wants to know what the children are doing in every single one. He also picked up on all the different characters and wants to follow each of them through the book. It's genius and would have been a great book even if it wasn't so desperately needed right now.

TiredofthisBS · 16/12/2019 07:38

Being comfortable in your own body and not taking dangerous drugs is now extreme Ideology?
Huh. Clara Vullimay comes across as plain vindictive.

Cuntysnark · 16/12/2019 07:38

Brilliant article Joani. The protestors sound, quite frankly, unhinged. I’m not saying they are, just the quotes makes them sound it.

AnyOldPrion · 16/12/2019 07:48

Thank Joani. Great article. Unhinged is a perfect description of anyone suggesting this book is anything but positive.

Datun · 16/12/2019 07:55

This ties in with the Safe Schools Alliance taking on Oxford County Council over their misrepresentation of the equality law in schools.

When people are calling a perfectly lovely, body positive children's book, terrorism, it's clear they know full well how important influencing children is.

JanesKettle · 16/12/2019 08:53

I'm so glad Authors Aloud have her back.

ThePurported · 16/12/2019 09:03

So let me get this straight - the children's author Clara Vulliamy believes that the watchful waiting approach is 'extreme ideology' and wants Authors Aloud to sack Rachel Rooney?
Who told Vulliamy that Transgender Trend is dangerous? I am sick of these virtue-signalling idiots who don't know what they are promoting.

PJsatMidday · 16/12/2019 09:07

Was it previously available to purchase on Amazon. It's not shown/ listed when I look it up.. Censorship. What next, book burning?

I wonder what Amazon's reasoning is, if they have pulled it. The complaints of one author and her cronies?

Igneococcus · 16/12/2019 09:16

I don't know if it ever was available on Amazon but it came up as a suggestion when I started typing Rachel Rooney into the search box which makes me think it was.

OP posts:
PJsatMidday · 16/12/2019 09:18

Clara Vulliamy is the daughter of Shirley Hughes (whom I love). Career appears to be Chelsea Art school and then writing books with her very famous and much more talented mum.

Rachel Rooney on the other hand works as a special needs teacher, as well as being an author.

Perhaps Rachel Rooney's next book should be a child's guide to nepotism and the people who occupy dangerous, self serving bubbles.

PJsatMidday · 16/12/2019 09:19

Same here, Igneococcus , so I think at some point it was available.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 16/12/2019 09:21

I looked for it on Amazon when it came out and it wasn't listed then so I'm not sure it's been pulled so much as was never there.

On the plus side this meant my library service were forced to order direct from Transgender Trend.

Clymene · 16/12/2019 09:26

You can order direct from Transgender Trend and can give them a small donation if you are so minded at the same time Smile. I know they had to reprint as they sold so many so hope this drives sales up further.

It really is a lovely book

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 16/12/2019 09:32

I bought it for my goddaughter, its incredibly sweet.

PJsatMidday · 16/12/2019 09:40

Ok, just been to Transgender Trend and bought 2 copies of the book, a school pack and made a donation. I'm delighted that the illustrations are by Jessica Ahlberg, her drawings are beautiful.

Cheers for the heads up, Clara, if you're reading this Grin
