I don't know where the original photoshopping started but a fake picture of her has been circulating showing her wearing odd shoes on the wrong feet when going out to vote, implying she's not fit to take office were Labour to win. Whatever you think of her surely this is really misogynistic, racist, whatever. It's really vile.

Some of the comments about it being a simple wardrobe malfunction are rather short sighted.
She has neuropathic pain. Its not a mistake, it is something many people with pain of that kind do to ease it!

Solihooley · 12/12/2019 19:58

Soozyloos ah I didn’t think of that. Also those pictures clearly show she’s in the same shoes WTAF? What a weird thing to fake up, and how did the labour candidate end up tweeting a doctored picture?

Sarahandco · 12/12/2019 19:59

Because she is a woman, people feel entitled to comment and criticise her appearance. I had wondered if her foot was too swollen to fit in the correct shoe, as it appeared to be hanging out of the shoe. Or it is photoshopped? Who the hell knows these days! Bloody mean spirited either way.

Rubyroost · 12/12/2019 20:04

How do you know its fake?

Rubyroost · 12/12/2019 20:06

@instagramwilleatitself that's not evidence. Show me the original pic with the right shoes on and I'll believe you. The second photo is taken at 13.25 after the first was tweeted and then deleted. Time for either someone to sort Diane's shoes out or for her to get the right pair herself. She's hardly gonna stay in the same shoes all day, once the mistake was noticed!

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2019 20:07

Wtf why would someone fake that poor woman
Even the right wing press are printing it
I feel sorry for her

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2019 20:11

Whoops lost my mind there scrap that about right press

MarshaBradyo · 12/12/2019 20:11

Still feel sorry for her though

Birdsfoottrefoil · 12/12/2019 21:15

People say she is getting stick that others don’t but even on this thread Boris appears to be fair game whereas she isn’t. I have certainly seen far more criticism, mocking, hatred for Boris (and those who might vote for him) than I have for Diane this election. I am very uncomfortable with the personal attacks on any politician and it would do nothing to attract more capable candidates to stand as MPs. Having said that, I am all for criticism of policies, behaviour, capability to do the job they are standing for.

LonginesPrime · 12/12/2019 21:33

She's diabetic - if the picture were real, it would be quite conceivable that she was suffering foot pain and this was the only shoe that fit around the pain and/or that she was in so much discomfort already that she didn't realise her shoe was on the wrong foot.

I do agree that it's misogyny and racism - JC's suits always look terribly ill-fitting but hardly anyone seems to notice that.

rockingchaircandle · 12/12/2019 21:34

No, I think they are almost exact opposite cases. Diane Abbott gets flack for nothing and Boris Johnson gets away with everything.

He is a disgusting bloke and politician. Happy to say it. There's a long list to back it up!

If Abbott had done a fraction of what Johnson has, she'd be finished.

Rubyroost · 12/12/2019 22:10

Misogyny and racism? Come on 🙄 she has got lots of her figures wrong, she does not speak articulately, she does not seem very intelligent and she is incompetent. The fact that she is a woman and black is nothing to do with it. Any mp wearing odd shoes is going to get in the paper. Although can't be 100 percent sure it's not photo shopped.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 12/12/2019 23:31

She's diabetic - if the picture were real, it would be quite conceivable that she was suffering foot pain

Given she is diabetic, it could be the opposite; she may have reduced feeling in her feet from diabetic neuropathy.

breakfastpizza · 13/12/2019 15:21

The level of vitriol Diane Abbott receives on a daily basis is absolutely dreadful and a stain on the UK.

The level of racism directed at her is horrific. I don't know how she keeps going.

Soozyloos · 13/12/2019 16:57

I think she is very admirable tbh, stumbled over a few facts and figures in interviews during the campaign and she's branded as useless and incompetent. At least she turned up for interviews and didn't hide in fridges Grin

sunglasses123 · 13/12/2019 19:32

Tbh - she is finished. She can hardly string two words together and I wonder if she has had a stroke of some sort.

Coldwatershock · 13/12/2019 20:15

Agree Ruby. Regardless of how her health is now I've always found her disappointingly inarticulate and unimpressive.

Thethiniceofanewday · 14/12/2019 23:12

“She does not seem very intelligent “

She went to Cambridge, FFS.

CardsforKittens · 14/12/2019 23:24

I disagree with Diane Abbott a lot. However, I also think about 80% of stuff posted about her is profoundly racist and/or sexist. And it disgusts me. Fuck that.

Rubyroost · 14/12/2019 23:37

She went to Cambridge, FFS

Oh yes, sorry that proves she must be highly intelligent then! 🙄

Sandaled · 14/12/2019 23:43

Going to Cambridge isn't proof of intelligence, however she probably is to have achieved what she has; she likely struggles in live interviews and under pressure to articulate and calculate properly. Not ideal for someone in government, admittedly, but I think it's a stretch to assume she is stupid. I don't agree with a lot of what she says, but she does recieve a lot of bile.

Rubyroost · 14/12/2019 23:51

She's shadow home secretary. It's her job to be able to articulate and calculate properly!

She has no clue how to answer, because she hasn't bothered to work out the answers for herself probably. She should know figures, that's her job to know.

She gets a lot of bile because she's an MP and member of the shadow cabinet and comes across as highly incompetent-there's no other reason.

To claim racism, mysogyny and disablism is highly ridiculous. It's a way of muting people, you can't say anything about a black person or a female in case you get accused of such.

PonderWhy · 14/12/2019 23:54

For those who think it has nothing to do with race...think harder.

Sandaled · 14/12/2019 23:55

I know, I don't think given those flaws that she should be aiming to be at the forefront of politics, I just don't believe that she is not intelligent as many people claim. I never mentioned it being to do with anything else, but she is mocked above and beyond not knowing a few figures.

Nefelibata86 · 15/12/2019 10:19

Pathetic. I’ve mixed up a pair of trainers rushing out the house and worn the same pair of boots on the wrong feet as they looked and pretty much felt the same in either arrangement. No reflection of my general and overall capabilities. If making assumptions how about it being a sign of a busy lifestyle with little time to pay attention to such trivialities.
