I don't know where the original photoshopping started but a fake picture of her has been circulating showing her wearing odd shoes on the wrong feet when going out to vote, implying she's not fit to take office were Labour to win. Whatever you think of her surely this is really misogynistic, racist, whatever. It's really vile.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 12/12/2019 16:57

Well the Labour MP who uploaded that sounds lovely and supportive Hmm

SarahTancredi · 12/12/2019 16:57

BJ permanently looks like he just rolled out of bed and talks like hes had multiple bangs on the head and is quite possibly about to be elected in regardless.....

Donald Trump is orange

Men seem.to get away with it easily enough yet here we are worried about shoes.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 12/12/2019 16:58

I saw the original picture band thought it was pretty horrible. Abbot does not appear well and the mocking was horrendous.

Bluntness100 · 12/12/2019 17:02

I don't believe for a second that you wouldn't all be slating BJ if he'd made this error

Agreed or any other (shadow) cabinet member. Such hypocrisy.

Equanimitas · 12/12/2019 17:06

The level of vitriol Diane Abbott receives on a daily basis is absolutely dreadful and a stain on the UK. On any basis, what she has achieved as a black woman throughout her life is extraordinary and she deserves respect for it.

Solihooley · 12/12/2019 17:07

I wish people would stop with all the faux concern ‘oh she must be ill’ bullshit. It’s so patronising and I agree that many Male politicians (one in particular) go round looking like a sack of shite and it would never be used as a demonstration of their competency, if anything it adds to their ‘lovable image’. If the image is real (and I struggle to believe anything at first glance nowadays) so what? They’re two shoes that look very similar, all this proves is she may have put them on early in the dark or is shortsighted. It doesn’t mean she’s incompetent or ill. I don’t think it’s the wrong foot, it looks like a slip on loafer.

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2019 17:07

She is standing as an MP with the expectation that if Labour gain a majority she will be appointed to one of the major offices of state.

In this context her suitability should be examined. As it would be with anyone else in similar position.

As a person, I feel for her. She has had some remarkable achievements as a black woman and a single mother. She sounds fun. I was very sad to read of recent problems involving her son. I dont know what is going on, but there is now accumulating evidence to suggest there are problems. If there are, I would hope that her many friends within the Labour party are reaching out. Having her take a high profile role as shadow Home Secretary, when she seems to struggle under scrutiny, does not sound right on a human level, let alone on a political level.

Boris consistently gets the piss taken out of him for his appearance as does Donald for his orange skin and his hair.

I feel sorry for Diane Abbott. I can’t stand her politics and the way she argues her points but even the Labour leading Anti Brexit Metro ran an article on this and the faux sympathetic tone when really it was an open invitation for people to comment and take the piss is so obvious. It reminds me of ‘Britney peed on a ladybug’. I might change my username to that with the way this election has gone.

SarahTancredi · 12/12/2019 17:27

They get taken the piss out of but it jasnt affected them infact they appear to actively embrace it.

Dianne abbot should do the same.

As I said not a fan but none of that is down to her clothing. Women are scrutinised far too much for their clothing far more so than men. With men it can be their identity almost, with women it seems to be a gauge if their competence.

Obama was praised for mucking about with child pretending to he shot , Teresa may mocked for dancing and being to old to wear a tight red dress.

Whatever my opinions of a person I dont think it's fair to be complicit in more sexist double standards

Bluntness100 · 12/12/2019 17:33

Cmon it's clearly on the wrong foot, even a child can see that.

And as a pp said, this woman wants us to wake up tomorrow to her being the Home Secretary or in a similar role of gravity. Public scrutiny is absolutely right.

And yes Boris looks like a bag of shite, as does Corbyn. But we aren't talking dress sense or what she looks like, we are talking about the fact that she not only clearly has odd shoes on, she's wearing one on the wrong foot. This is very different to looking like a bag of shite.

Any public servant who wants a senior role like she does would be questioned on what's going on, if they fronted up with their shoes on the wrong feet. Let's not pretend otherwise.

user1471510720 · 12/12/2019 17:42

Well Labour are not fit to take office OP, and DA is seen as a comical figure within the House of Commons, strangely even by her own lot but she’s JC’s bit of rough so their you go.

BovaryX · 12/12/2019 17:45

Precisely.

rockingchaircandle · 12/12/2019 17:46

I would rather have Abbott with an odd shoe than the lying Tory ministers who are openly racist and sometimes criminal.
The faux concern is transparent.

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2019 17:54

I don’t want her as Home Secretary.

I don’t trust her to robustly defend female prisoners from the TWAW brigade. Nothing faux about that.

BaolFan · 12/12/2019 18:08

I'm no fan of Diane but the amount of abuse she receives is utterly vile. I don't want her as home secretary because I don't think she's well enough to do the job. That's no reflection on her former abilities - read up on her in her younger days. She's clever and was a complete trailblazer. She was also stunning and Corbyn was punching well above his weight with her.

RoyalCorgi · 12/12/2019 18:41

I would rather have Abbott with an odd shoe than the lying Tory ministers who are openly racist and sometimes criminal.

That's when they're not hiding in fridges, or avoiding talking to the general public or being interviewed by journalists or lying about attacks on their staff, or spreading fake news through social media accounts. In that context, putting mismatching shoes on seems like small beer.

RoyalCorgi · 12/12/2019 18:45

I mean, Jesus fucking Christ. Boris Johnson has been sacked from two jobs for lying. He has lied repeatedly since then. He has been complicit in trying to get a journalist beaten up. He's a serial adulterer. He pressured an ex-girlfriend into having an abortion. He doesn't even pay for the upkeep of his illegitimate children. He won't even admit how many children he has. His former boss says he's unfit for office. Long-standing parliamentarians from his own party are urging people not to vote for him.

And people here are trying to make a big deal out of the fact that Diane Abbott has the wrong shoes on? Where's your moral compass - behind the sofa?

Billy21 · 12/12/2019 18:46

I have never felt any empathy with Ms Abbott until this picture. I have lost count of the times someone has said to me at work "you do realise you have your jumper on inside out or you still have a curler in your hair" etc etc.

She may be all the things suggested in this thread, but for me she has finally shown she is human. I would never vote for her as my MP, but welcome to the real world Diane!

fairfat40 · 12/12/2019 18:47

Tinkly I doubt the mp noticed.

Yetanotherwinter · 12/12/2019 18:56

I don’t think her skin colour has anything to do with her coming across as clueless, incompetent and unable to string a sentence together. I don’t think she does herself any favours every time she opens her mouth.

DeeZastris · 12/12/2019 18:56

I have gone to work wearing odd shoes and nights out with my top inside out so it might not be photoshopped.

But who knows with the Daily Mail. They just churn out the click bait.

rockingchaircandle · 12/12/2019 19:03

Her skin colour had nothing to do with it.

But only by wearing odd shoes, has she finally shown she's human.

Questioning her intelligence, it's decline, diagnosing her health problems from afar, blaming her for the allocation of trans-prisoners.

Bollocks. It's just grasping. It's racism and misogyny.

Needmoresleep · 12/12/2019 19:08

If you say so dear.....

I have no problem with her personally, and feel empathy for the wardrobe malfunction. However I don’t think she will make a good Home Secretary. If you feel able, over the internet, to decide that is because I am racist, think what you want to think.

rockingchaircandle · 12/12/2019 19:16

Oh no. You patronised me. You must be clever, and right.

instagramwilleatitself · 12/12/2019 19:23

Original pics. Clearly the same shoes.
