An attempt to escape from the past or to reinvent for the future?

I'm not sure what the public record thing is about - it's not like we don't know the name this person was born with or has now. This person is very much in the public eye so what would not having it as a matter of public record achieve?

So what is the not part of the public record name change intended to conceal, then?

MrsSteveMcDonald · 07/12/2019 16:33

I think that Ron deserves a lovely suffix such as Laydee Extraordinaire. It makes a wonderful set of initials...

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/12/2019 16:48

Surely Veronica Ivy (nee Rachel McKinnon) cant be so totally dim to understand that the word woman IS used worldwide, and is simply used in whatever language spoken in any given country.

Because if not, why don't they tweet their comments in every language going as well?

Or are they really not ready to learn about the art of translation!

ErrolTheDragon · 07/12/2019 16:55

Veronica Ivy was not 'née' Rachel McKinnon, or anything else; pedantically this person was né.

LangCleg · 07/12/2019 16:57

Crimes of the past participle!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/12/2019 17:38

Forgive my dead-something-ing Grin

GetbusywiththeFizzee · 07/12/2019 22:35

What an unfortunate choice for a new identity to disguise a murky past - reminds me of poison ivy.
Poison ivy; well known for causing an irritating reaction in people who come into contact with it, even worse it’s not even a true ivy plant but a member of the cashew & pistachio family ( ie nuts) and often thought of as an unwelcome weed.
Oh dear.

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 07/12/2019 22:36

But won’t their medals have the wrong name now?

just5morepeas · 07/12/2019 22:44

Perhaps part of it is that they dislike that they are often referred to as just McKinnon online because people don't like using their female sounding first name. This way even their surname sounds female.

The pedants who say nè 👀

BickerinBrattle · 07/12/2019 23:02

Perhaps Rachel is taking a page from Natasha at Goldsmith’s and is about to co-author a paper with Veronica?

boatyardblues · 07/12/2019 23:03

🤣

Oooh now this seems very likely to me.

Well I don't think they are protected by transgender laws on this. Keep it secret? It will be on Wikipedia eg. "in December 2019, McKinnon, changed her name to Veronica Ivy"
Don't know if it sounds like a porn name or some cartoon character superhero or something. If using their name "McKinnon" was annoying, will they be ok with "Ronnie"? Can't claim transphobia. It is a unisex nickname - Ronnie from Eastenders.

JellySlice · 08/12/2019 00:19

I wonder whether RMcK knows the meaning of Veronica, and the story of the name. Perhaps this is another image they are self-IDing into: that of a kind woman. Hmm

Ginandsonic · 08/12/2019 00:21

Veronica Ivy sounds like a strippers pseudonym

Of course, sexualised women are the pinnacle of womanhood so maybe that is what this person is going for 🤷

StrangeLookingParasite · 08/12/2019 00:25

I love this board.

StrangeLookingParasite · 08/12/2019 00:26

CFKAK
Cyclepath formerly known as McKinnon.

ErrolTheDragon · 08/12/2019 00:33

In this context pedants say né , being acutely aware nè would be a grave mistake.

Anyhow... there was at least one seriously good thing on that thread, which is this link

Ah so Ronnie is looking for some attention.

I wouldn't be surprised if Dr.Ron is planning to come out as fluid, name fluid that is.
I'm going to check stonewall too see if they have updated their all encompassing umbrella...

Ibloodylovewomen · 08/12/2019 01:33

Stonewall's umbrella, ella, ella, eh, eh, eh.

I'm blocked on Twitter by both people, 'Rachel' and 'Ron'. Gutted...

boatyardblues · 08/12/2019 07:42

I had wondered if this individual was changing names to clean up their social media presence and avoid disciplinary action by their employer. But nope, straight back to the frothing and foot stamping. What’s the point?

testing987654321 · 08/12/2019 08:00

Wow, what struck me in that tweet was Helen's total disregard of the feelings of a woman who had been raped about who she would let touch her body.

Those feelings are much much less important than the hurt feelings of a man who wants everyone else to pretend he's a woman.
