An attempt to escape from the past or to reinvent for the future?

I'm not sure what the public record thing is about - it's not like we don't know the name this person was born with or has now. This person is very much in the public eye so what would not having it as a matter of public record achieve?

Thanks Lang. I forgot the big C!

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 07/12/2019 09:56

wants a clean searchable name: 'Veronica Ivy', which is completely disconnected from the previous, name 'Rachel McKinnon' which has all the horrible things Rachel said attached to it.

People should definitely not link past activities undertaken by Rachel McKinnon to their new name of Veronica Ivy.

BarbaraStrozzi · 07/12/2019 09:59

Or a villainess in a Marvel/DC comics strip.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/12/2019 10:00

So is the doctor retiring from cycling?

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 10:00

Absolutely Buzz

It would be wrong of those of us on here or Twitter/FB etc to associate the alias Veronica Ivy with the alias Rachel McKinnon (not to mention the third identity).

I'm sure it will never get mentioned ever again...Grin

It isn't though.Confused

Re academic publications, I assume nowadays you can change your name but use the same ORCID ?

DeathBySnuSnu · 07/12/2019 10:12

I love Ron the creeper. Grin
Not on twitter. Only found out Magdalen Burns died very recently, I'm still shocked and grieving? Does it count as grief if you didn't know the person idk.... But makes me feel so fucking angry that someone would actually make fun of her death. Fuck.

theflushedzebra · 07/12/2019 10:13

Veronica Ivy sounds like the name of a Roald Dahl character.

It does! And not a very nice one either!

Ronnie can change their name as often as they like, but Ronnie won't be able to leave Ronnie's own personality and character behind - that will travel with Ronnie.

I notice the twitter handle has changed to - to "@sportisaright" - well, no. I'm not sure it actually is. Ronnie may want to call it a "right" - as an argument for Ronnie to take part in a sporting category that Ronnie doesn't belong in - but that does not make it a valid argument. Nobody's stopping Ronnie do sport - just that Ronnie should not be allowed to compete against women. Nobody has a right to compete in any category they like. Or does Ronnie think a heavyweight boxer should be able to compete in the featherweight category?

BarbaraStrozzi · 07/12/2019 10:13

Good point about ORCID. Though I do think "name" still matters (hence everyone needing to have some prominent first-authored papers if they want to advance) - scientists are human, and won't necessarily connect "Bloggs et al 2015" with "OfMike et al 2018".

Admittedly though, if I had a publications record like "Ivy's", I'd want to leave it behind too. Imagine having a PhD thesis called "How to tell big fat porkies with a straight face."

OhHolyJesus · 07/12/2019 10:14

I don't Th ink you can change your name on previous qualifications - isn't Caitlin Jenner trying to get the medals won as Bruce remade or was that a joke?

Anyway we all know what RM has done and said and how RM cheats and I don't see the point and at most it will be a BBC reporter who says "Dr Veronica Ivy, previously known as Rachel McKinnon" the reporter never references the name RM was born with.

We're not going to forget, public record indeed, the internet is public record FFS.

OhHoly

Kim Howe died in a road accident in Feb 2015. Jenner announced 'new gender' Hmm two months after that death and then name changed in the July.

Ricky Gervais does a great routine about this and how some people might create a new persona to absolve responsibility for their past.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 10:31

But it never happens of course...

BoxOfBabyCheeses · 07/12/2019 10:32

Did anyone else notice they retweeted this?! Can't offend the animals by misgendering them 🤔😒

Doesn't matter how many times RM changes their name. They are still a cheating, misogynistic, bullshiting male.

youllhavehadyourtea · 07/12/2019 12:06

That twitter screenshot above ^

What's this new bit of mangled language 'an ewe'?

JellySlice · 07/12/2019 13:09

What does that tweet even mean?

golgiapparatus · 07/12/2019 14:04

It has an anagram, Irony Vivace.

Just saying.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 07/12/2019 14:38

I don't Th ink you can change your name on previous qualifications

You can if you are trans...

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3723385-Man-tricks-university-into-giving-him-a-law-degree-by-pretending-to-have-transitioned

Tocopherol · 07/12/2019 14:42

That tweet is bizarre; they've just screenshotted a post from a farming forum (for the poster above, 'an ewe' is obviously a typo...) about livestock terminology and conventions and then decided to frame it as a feminist issue...without context? Or without retweeting it with any. I'm not sure what point it is making.

Incidentally, condition of bollocks is the transition point for male livestock terms.

Fromage · 07/12/2019 15:08

Is Veronika's middle name "Poison?"

BoxOfBabyCheeses · 07/12/2019 15:09

There's more tweets from the weird farm feminist! Just as nonsensical as the one I posted.

Fromage · 07/12/2019 15:10

Sorry, VeroniCa. I've misspelt. Because I am a tref, it's what we do, we call it dudnaming.

BlackeyedSusan · 07/12/2019 15:27

Dudnaming

Xmas Grin
AFairlyHardAvocado · 07/12/2019 15:37

This comment on the word "woman".

It was in response to Glinner's article.

Even if they (unlike me) fundamentally disagreed with all the points he made, how can they pick up on the use of the word "woman"?!

And if they believe trans women are women then why aren't we allowed to use the word women?! If you don't like the word then don't use it as the slogan for your cause.

If you don't like it because it isn't a word used in every language then make sure every tweet is sent in every language on earth because not everybody in the world speaks English.

I just can't anymore. FFS.
