An attempt to escape from the past or to reinvent for the future?

I'm not sure what the public record thing is about - it's not like we don't know the name this person was born with or has now. This person is very much in the public eye so what would not having it as a matter of public record achieve?

The compassion is expected to flow in only one direction, it seems.

FannyCann · 08/12/2019 08:23

I wonder whether RMcK knows the meaning of Veronica, and the story of the name.

What is the meaning/story please?

boatyardblues · 08/12/2019 08:29

Meaning & History
Latin alteration of BERENICE, the spelling influenced by the ecclesiastical Latin phrase vera icon meaning "true image". This was the name of a legendary saint who wiped Jesus' face with a towel and then found his image imprinted upon it. Due to popular stories about her, the name was occasionally used in the Christian world in the Middle Ages. It was borne by the 17th-century Italian saint and mystic Veronica Giuliani. As an English name, it was not common until the 19th century, when it was imported from France and Scotland.

peas that's an astute point about always wanting to sound female. But unless McKinnon has a personality transplant, the bigoted, inhuman, aggressive crap will continue. Will people more tech-savvy than me find clever ways to clearly keep the two names connected online? You can't be caused of deadnaming if the person hasn't changed gender again, I assume?

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 08/12/2019 09:42

A rose by any other name... so under the whole ‘deadman’s’ thing, will it be terrible to refer to them by their second round of names?

ItsChristmaaaaaaaaas · 08/12/2019 09:42

Deadname (silly autocorrect)

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 10:13

In this context pedants say né , being acutely aware nè would be a grave mistake.

I realised this as soon as I posted it Sad

FannyCann · 08/12/2019 10:37

Thanks Boatyard. I doubt there was an intention to choose a saintly name somehow.

FilthyBiscuit · 12/12/2019 13:39

Anyone else finding their Twitter translates to Catalan when they go to Vron's page?

AnotherNightWatering · 12/12/2019 15:46

This whole think makes me think Ivy is some sort of modern art project, seeing how far they can take it before it's all exposed.

IMAPROUDWOMAN · 18/03/2020 06:29

She’s a disgrace to womanhood and a shame to humanity. I’ll call her a woman when she bleeds once a month and has all the obstacles of a woman. This world is getting to be a disgusting place where individualism is more important than the well being of our society and morals. Why should the whole world conform to a minority that has chosen to be a certain way?? If she wants to change her gender, fine! But don’t go and compete with women when you grew up with testosterone strengthening your muscles and bones and increasing your lung capacity!!! Just do your “academic” work and piss off!?

Danceswithwarthogs · 18/03/2020 06:41

I think the thread has probably moved on but I think the cut off word on the farm animal screen shot should be ‘ewe-lamb’ as a young or first pregnancy sheep... alternative word being a gimmer which I always thought hilarious.

Interestingly (?) farmers continue calling cows heifers until their second pregnancy eg “that’s a newly calved heifer in the milking parlour”

Danceswithwarthogs · 18/03/2020 06:42

Male animals tend to have a different word for whether they’ve been castrated or not

Danceswithwarthogs · 18/03/2020 06:43

Bullock/steer/gelding

Al1Langdownthecleghole · 18/03/2020 06:55

I now have Il est ne, la divine enfant going through my head.

Not that there is anything divine about the cyclist.

Hirsutefirs · 18/03/2020 06:55

A castrated male cattlebeast is often called a stot in Scotland.

AnyOldSpartabix · 18/03/2020 07:17

And a ram is a tup.

Danceswithwarthogs · 18/03/2020 08:07

Or a vasectomised ram is a teaser Blush

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 18/03/2020 09:19

Well there's my fact for the day - first time I'd seen the word 'cattlebeast' so I googled, and discovered it's the singular of 'cattle'. I will find ways to work it into conversation :D

Danceswithwarthogs · 18/03/2020 09:36

maybe we need a little-known-biological fact thread... top ourselves up with reality to counter the gender ‘bullocks’

Oblomov20 · 18/03/2020 09:38

Strange choice of the Christian name Veronica.

Horseradishfemish · 18/03/2020 09:50

... to counter the gender ‘bullocks’..

lol..
