Great column from Janice today: Flowers

"Jo Swinson chose wokeness over women’s rights"

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jo-swinson-chose-wokeness-over-womens-rights-jm26ldx35?shareToken=1bb1b5a3e627aa308f03953a99c59666

I might send Jo Swinson a bunch of flowers. My card will read: “Thank you for making reform of the Gender Recognition Act a flagship Liberal Democrat election policy, thus finally giving journalists permission to expose the consequences for women’s rights and safety.”

It would appear she chose cold hard cash over Women’s rights

Jean Hatchet's tin foil conspiracy theory about Spire healthcare has already been debunked on another thread.

A tiny number of plastic surgeons at Spire facilities offer facial feminisation surgery. I'm not entirely sure why Spire made a donation to the Lib Dems but the idea that the Lib Dem policy on self ID will vastly increase Spire's profits because of this type of surgery is pure tin foil hattery.

SomeVelvetMorning · 07/12/2019 05:51

Thinking on it Spire's donation might be anti-Brexit led. They probably have loads of non UK staff in their hospitals.

Pixxie7 · 07/12/2019 05:56

Jo Swinson is self serving will always put her interest first even her manifesto promises are advantageous for her.

Milanimilani · 07/12/2019 06:54

I’m looking forwards to the full exposure finally being shone on this cult by journalists. It’s about time.

Cuntysnark · 07/12/2019 07:52

That’s an excellent article. Thank you Janice. I’ve got some cards to write, Janice, Emily, Emma and Joanna Cherry (Joanna this week just for being Joanna) I’m also off to buy a paper copy of the Times, previously I’d have got my free copy from Waitrose but they can fottfsof.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 07/12/2019 08:04

Janice Turner is the reason I started subscribing to the Times.

Cuntysnark · 07/12/2019 08:17

I’ve also written one to Jenni Murray as she’s apparently been gagged.

Cuntysnark · 07/12/2019 08:18

Agh. Sorry-not apparently. Seems to have been...

WrathofFaeKlop · 07/12/2019 08:49

I'm not entirely sure why Spire made a donation to the Lib Dems

Hmmm, I wonder why the owners of Spire made two large donations to the Lib Dems.

It's a right puzzle that one.Xmas Hmm

SomeVelvetMorning · 07/12/2019 08:53

Are you still holding to they will make huge profits out of trans related surgery tin foil hat theory?

It's likely Brexit related due to EU staff.

refusetobeasheep · 07/12/2019 08:55

Superb piece by Janice - it says it all really.

Smallblanket · 07/12/2019 08:56

Very grateful to Janice for articulating so well the essence of the problem. And for raising again at the end the astronomic rise in trans-identifying teens and young people. It is not progressive or liberating to medically alter people who don't conform to stereotypes.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 08:59

Thanks for the share and thanks again to Janice for keeping on top of this.

HandsOffMyRights · 07/12/2019 09:00

This

NotBadConsidering · 07/12/2019 09:17

Brilliant article.

On Newsnight, Sarah Wollaston (a medical doctor) revealed she does not believe a baby’s biological sex is observed at birth but “gender is assigned” by some random sorting hat

This made me GrinGrin. Then she said this:

Asked if she’s concerned that self-ID will be abused by predatory men she said: “There will be, of course, a very tiny number of individuals who will seek to exploit this to behave as violent criminals towards women and you need a separate route for these people.”

so then I went and looked her up and her Wiki page has this:

She was also a police surgeon from 1996 to 2001, dealing with victims of sexual assaults

And now I’m ShockShockAngry. She’s seen first hand the outcomes of sexual assault by men at the most acute point and STILL can’t see an issue?

Just....WTF?

TimeLady · 07/12/2019 09:19

This is the time for newly elected GC MPs to up their game and get themselves on to the new Women & Equalities Committee. That way they can ensure all voices are heard. They don't even have to go around making public pronouncements, just ensure fair representation for all.

It is a good article.

LangCleg · 07/12/2019 09:22

I love that Janice is now sufficiently emboldened to type "cis" in inverted commas and the sub ed is perfectly happy with that! Little things please me!

Lib Dems do not believe biological sex exists, let alone that it matters in data collection, crime statistics, the safety of girls, the housing of sex offenders or any other governmental matter.

Succinct, correct and orders of magnitude more misogynist than the bloody Tories, FFS. Well done, Jo. You're a danger to women shero!

BarbaraStrozzi · 07/12/2019 09:22

NotBad Shock

Though I don't think it's that she can't understand, I think it underlines the sheer cynicism of her naked political opportunism. She obviously does understand from first hand experience, she just doesn't care, because she has selfishly decided her political career will be advanced more by woke brownie points than from siding with women.

Chrysanthemum5 · 07/12/2019 09:23

Excellent article- I used to be a Guardian reader but gave up on them due to the misogyny. Janice is the reason I changed to the times

ChattyLion · 07/12/2019 09:25

Excellent point TimeLady
And the Science and Technology, Education and the Health and Social Care Select Committees

OldCrone · 07/12/2019 09:27

It's likely Brexit related due to EU staff.

That makes sense.

The large donations to the Lib Dems over the last five years or so by a pharmaceutical company which makes hormone blockers is interesting though.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 07/12/2019 09:30

Janice is so right once again. The majority of the public / electorate would not be in favour of self ID. Best to pretend it doesn’t exist.

Uncompromisingwoman · 07/12/2019 09:33

That's a really clear and succinct article - great writing yet again from Janice.

And the Times have covered yet another University being bullied into cancelling a conference about prisons - that's 3 events this month been cancelled. Share token:
