Great column from Janice today: Flowers

"Jo Swinson chose wokeness over women’s rights"

www.thetimes.co.uk/article/jo-swinson-chose-wokeness-over-womens-rights-jm26ldx35?shareToken=1bb1b5a3e627aa308f03953a99c59666

I might send Jo Swinson a bunch of flowers. My card will read: “Thank you for making reform of the Gender Recognition Act a flagship Liberal Democrat election policy, thus finally giving journalists permission to expose the consequences for women’s rights and safety.”

Yes. What do you suggest?

StandUpStraight · 08/12/2019 08:43

Sorry SeaRabbit, I can’t help you there. I’m voting Tory. I just can’t see how this genie will ever be put back in its bottle if it is released.

Only just saw this from OldCrone upthread.

Complete the introduction of equal marriage, by:
– Removing the spousal veto.
– Allowing those marriages that were dissolved solely due to the Gender Recognition process to be retrospectively restored.

So spouses (mostly women I assume) who have had their marriages dissolved and got in with life will be forcibly remarried? Apart from anything else how would that even work? What if they have remarried, sorted out financial settlements etc?

Not only an appalling abusive plan but utterly impractical as well. ConfusedAngry

Nappyvalley15 · 08/12/2019 09:25

Amazing work by Janice again. Especially her final point about the need for investigative journalism on this after the election.

Lang, you know what I find so shocking? This is absolutely nothing whatsoever like a grass roots movement. It is nothing like a social change movement. Like the suffragettes. It is a deliberately secretive lobby which had immediate access to the people in the upper echelons of power. Civil servants, politicians, charities, state sector, private sector. And all of it done with zero media or public scrutiny. It’s unbelievable

So true.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/12/2019 18:22

Do the women who left those marriages get a say in this, or are they to be regarded merely as property to the very special person who utilised the process?

Fucking hell. The 1860s called, they want these Jurassic maniacs back to help stuff children up chimneys and prevent women owning property or voting. And frankly the 1860s can have them, there's no place for this lunacy in the modern world.

WTAF? That's a terrible idea!

I presume this means that couples whose marriages had to be dissolved when one partner transitioned, before same sex marriage came in, can have their marriage restored if both parties want to. (ie if they stayed together).

Which I think is fair enough enough, although if such couples exist you'd think they'd have already remarried by now.

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 19:06

You can't forcibly remarry people- the whole basis of marriage law is mutual consent.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/12/2019 19:13

If said spouses have since remarried will they be prosecuted for bigamy?

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 19:20

Presumably not, but you're probably thinking this through more than the Libdems have done.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/12/2019 19:25

In that "at all" is more than "what, you mean I can't just repeat what I was told verbatim and call it a day?"

TinselAngel · 08/12/2019 19:36

Sounds about right.

They made a 'grassroots organisation' - action for trans health and offshoots who were important enough to give evidence to the Maria Miller committee. Jess, the non-binary transwoman disappeared from view after collating an online blog of underage upright members, and Her Own, and was ushered away by Farter Ruck, into a twilight land. Who paid for that?

AutumnCrow · 08/12/2019 20:24

Maria Miller is a Tory.

Penny Mordaunt is a Tory.

I worry how many other Tories have done and will 'Do A Miller'

This as written sounds Orwellian. I mean we all know what's wrong with the spousal "veto" and I knew that was in the manifesto, but this is horrific.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 09/12/2019 00:48

Just thinking about passports. If you can put an ‘x’ on your passport then why record sex at all? If they don’t need it to identify someone (so it is ok to put X) then they don’t need it at all.

FannyCann · 09/12/2019 03:09

What's the point of putting X anyway? Travel to somewhere like Saudi and I think they'd make the decision for you irrespective of the X , especially if one was unlucky enough to be arrested and put in jail for any reason.
