Stop Funding Hate and Mimmymum

Stop Funding Hate are going after the Spectator on a few things, including the trans stuff. They seem to have teamed up with Mimmymum:

twitter.com/StopFundingHate/status/1192859057578741760?s=20

She and SFH are trying to lump the Spectator’s GC stuff in with genuinely horrible and stupid Muslim bashing from Rod Liddle’s deeply awful article last week.

By the looks of StopFunding’s timeline, some of the advertisers are wavering: Waterstones and Naked Wines seem to be suggesting they’ll pull money from the Spectator.

If anyone on Twitter wants to explain to the advertisers they are targeting that GC journalism is important, reasonable and has nothing at all in common with Islamophobia (or indeed Rod Liddle) I think it would be worth making the point.

I’ll do some emails but for fucking fucks sake that this even needs to be articulated Hmm

Dear stupid people. GC feminists, unsurprisingly, aren’t rampant racists and homophobes. This. Is. Classic. Fucking. DARVO.

OhHolyJesus · 08/11/2019 21:44

blogs.spectator.co.uk/2016/11/stop-funding-hate-nasty-elitist-campaign-press-censorship/

Old article but for background.

This attacks the free press but should we be worried? A court case brought by one half of this double act was not been successful in the past. Hopefully this will be seen for what it is.

NotBadConsidering · 08/11/2019 22:07

I can see why it would be convenient for Helen (hi Helen! 👋) if newspapers didn’t report on the medical mistreatment of children that is supported by the lobby group she works for, but hard to put the genie back in the bottle now. I’m sure everyone at the Spectator is quivering with fear 😆😆

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/11/2019 22:14

I think their advertisers should have a think about what kind of political regimes media censorship is traditionally associated with.

NotTerfNorCis · 08/11/2019 22:23

Almost all those Spectator articles are about censorship in the trans debate. Ironic what mimmymum and SFH are up to.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 08/11/2019 22:44

Ironic

bloody obvious more like.

theflushedzebra · 08/11/2019 22:46

Perhaps SFH should look into Mimmymum taking a trans person to court for disagreeing with her on Twitter? She called it 'harassment' of course - but the Judge threw it out and ordered costs to the trans person.

Pretty hateful behaviour by Mimmymum there.

donquixotedelamancha · 08/11/2019 23:30

Worth pointing out that some of those articles are by transwomen and several of the ones about Stonewall etc have been by prominent members of the gay community.

Bit weird for someone who is not trans or gay to tell trans and gay people to stop discussion of issues affecting those groups.

teawamutu · 09/11/2019 00:01

From an article I just read: "Far-left liberals have no idea how thick their bubble is until it’s popped."

GeordieTerf · 09/11/2019 00:05

I too am getting mightily sick of straight people telling LGB people what we can, and can’t, talk about as LGB people.

BovaryX · 09/11/2019 09:17

This is an attempt to force mega corporations to exert punitive financial pressure in order to silence reporting or opinions. It is another sign of the times that a hefty chunk of the left wing thinks no platforming, bullying and attempting to dictate the narrative and suppress any dissent is acceptable behavior. Much of this confirms the analysis promoted by Douglas Murray in The Madness of Crowds. The Spectator should resist any attempt by niche pressure groups to stifle or control their content. There are swathes of left wing media. There needs to be an alternative

HandsOffMyRights · 09/11/2019 09:44

She started with Mumsnet and, emboldened by her perceived position, is now trying to employ a similar smear campaign elsewhere.

I'd recommend spending the time gaining some experience and qualifications in marketing. This dabbling is embarrassing.

It's interesting reading the desperation in some tweets. So many 'foaming at the mouth' cliches. Nearly every tweet contains 'transphobes' or 'T*RF' or 'bigot'
which are boring.

The weaponising of suicide or racism too.

To coin a cliche, it's straight out of the MRA playbook.

I think it was Belcher or J.Fae who appeared on BBC radio 4 and when clearly losing the debate threw in a desperate bid to liken the response to men saying they are females and demanding the removal of female rights, to homophobia and racism Hmm

It always makes me laugh, the accusation that thousands of women and transsexuals, the majority left leaning, suddenly became 'bigoted'.

thatdamnwoman · 09/11/2019 11:35

I imagine Helen et al are terrified. After all, the tide is turning and there they are, exposed, the leaders of a campaign that is causing irreparable harm to children and young people and spreading lies and anxiety throughout society.

If they recant they'll be metaphorically torn apart by their own people and will have to face the legal consequences of their actions sooner rather than later, so they have no option but to fight, even if every fight reveals more and more worrying things about them and their organisations. There will, down the line, be a formal enquiry into Transgate and if there's any justice in the world I would like to see people charged with child abuse. Because that's what this is.

Siameasy · 09/11/2019 11:50

I agree with thatdamnwoman. The truth is trickling out.
I took a break from SM at the end of last year and having returned to it (just to view) I can see that there are so many more people becoming aware of this-including more men.
There was an article in the Mirror about Caitlin Jenner and 95% of the comments were negative - people saying things I would never have dared to a year ago.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/11/2019 11:55

Given that Mimmymum seems to hate an awful lot of people I initially assumed this thread was about how people should stop funding Mimmymum. With which I would agree.

The idea that advertisers should stop funding one of the nation's leading newspapers, otoh, is a bit dystopian novel. Farenheit 451 wasn't a how to guide, Mimmymum.

thatdamnwoman · 09/11/2019 12:06

You have to wonder whether Ruth Hunt's exit from Stonewall was intended to ensure she was well away from the organisation once the shit hit the fan. Looking into my crystal ball I anticipate her saying that she tried, so, so hard to fight for LGB rights but was overwhelmed by the TRAs who'd sneaked into Stonewall. The LGB Alliance can ask the questions no individual was allowed to ask – including questions about the misuse of public funds.

I imagine there are several hundred people – clinicians, psychotherapists, trainers, head teachers who've contaminated their schools with gender bollocks, social workers, woke journalists and those running various charities and organisations – are having increasing difficulty sleeping at night. When it all comes crashing down their careers and reputations will crash with it. No amount of lies and fake news in Prick News or spurious court cases will stop it.

We need to find out all the donors who've supported Mermaids over the years and ask them politely and with evidence about their complicity in child abuse.

BovaryX · 09/11/2019 12:06

they will have to face the legal consequences

I really do think that this is going to result in a shed load of law suits in the coming years. One of the things I find most extraordinary is the suggestion that a boyish girl or girlish boy should be pursuing gender reassignment instead of being proud of their individuality. There is something so reactionary and regressive about gender stereotypes which seems to be at at the core of this debate. It’s just incredible.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 09/11/2019 12:13

At some point a former trans kid will win a lawsuit against their former doctors and compensation will be granted, and then the shit will really hit the fan. Especially in the US where compensation awarded can be massive.

SarahConnorFem · 09/11/2019 12:16

@TheProdigalKittensReturn Let's hope this happens very soon.

ChattyLion · 09/11/2019 12:22

Exactly what thatdamnwoman and Bovary said. This is all looking a bit desperate now.

But I’m pleased It’s happening because it reveals more and more about this authoritarian dogma. People who didn’t know much about this start to wonder what the fuss is about, google a few things and then start asking more questions. Sunlight and fresh air.

Durgasarrow · 09/11/2019 14:08

Facts Aren't Hate. Or, to put it in language that trans rights advocates can understand:
Facts Aren't Hate.
Facts Aren't Hate.
Facts Aren't Hate.
Facts Aren't Hate.
Facts Aren't Hate.
Facts Aren't Hate.

Imnobody4 · 09/11/2019 15:11

I am so sick of the totalitarian left. Anti-capitalists trying to use capitalism and free market as enforcers.

Qcng · 09/11/2019 16:49

imnobody4
TRAs aren't anti-capitalist Confused
Most are bred in the USA, the most capitalist country out there. Most don't even know what left wing is, either.

Imnobody4 · 09/11/2019 17:52

Qcng
Hope not Hate, Amnesty, Anarchists etc, etc.
The only left wing organisations I can think of who aren't buying into this are Deep Green Resistance and the Communist Party.
