When I were a wee thing, I'd sit and listen to my mum and my nans and my aunties discussing whether or not feminists should share a platform with Mary Whitehouse and her bunch of fundies in order to oppose porn and prostitution. Or the best way to "politely" address PIE's infiltration of the gay rights movement because gay sex had only just been legalised and it could be seen as homophobic to speak up.

The bolshy elder women in my family were split on the Whitehouse issue (some wanted to keep campaigns separate, others felt limited platform sharing was fine) but as one on child protection (if gay men couldn't or wouldn't clean their own house, women would have to do it for them).

Nothing has changed. Nothing about this is new. Women and child protection are always at the bottom of the pile. Disapprobation is always piled on women who won't accept not prioritising women and child protection above all else.

Bored with this thread now. Nothing about it is new or difficult to understand. Continue to 40 pages of pointless wank without me.

Hmm
Grin
Pointless wank thread if we don't always agree with you blindingly, amirite?
Okey dokey, noted as people like to say

I am a brown woman, around half my family / friends are brown, black, Asian. The rest white. We were poor growing up, my Dad is dark skinned, I have witnessed and experienced harrowing racism. These days mostly not, a glimpse now and then.

I don’t agree with everything Posie says or does. In fact, I disagree with her on quite a few things!

But I do not feel she has thrown me or my loved ones “under a bus.” Ridiculous statement.

early if you feel genuine, personal distress because Posie spoke to this asshole, then own that and I’ll respect it. I do not have to understand your view to respect your right to hold it.

But do not imply that I am “undermining women or people of colour” simply because I disagree with you.

BowermansNose · 18/10/2019 10:33

This has been an interesting and eye-opening thread. People will come to their own decision as to whether it is ok for feminists to ally with the alt-right when there is a common goal or enemy. For me, I don't think it is ok, as it's about integrity, and the far-right is a line too far for me. I'm quite amazed so many are comfortable with it.

TequilaPilates · 18/10/2019 10:44

BowermansNose

Completely agree

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 18/10/2019 10:47

Well put bowermansnose

Butterisbest · 18/10/2019 11:01

Posie was talking to her binmen this morning, she's posted that although she spoke to them she definitely hasn't formed an alliance with them.

Datun · 18/10/2019 11:17

She has also posted more photographs of young women's bodies being horrifically butchered.

When similar photos were posted before, I remember posters similar to the ones on here, who declared they were film props, not real. And said how awful we were for making stuff up.

They were clueless, utterly clueless.

So anyone who does want to ask Posie questions that they appear to expect other people to answer, can also see for themself exactly what it is Posie is campaigning for.

Because it ain't white supremacy.

Hypatia415 · 18/10/2019 11:24

I wanted to agree with some of the points made by @Earlywalker. It's so wonderful that we have a space on here to discuss feminist issues and topics affecting women from different backgrounds.

It's concerning to see these issues sidelined by a disproportionate focus on issues relating to trans women.

I'm not saying this is not an important area for discussion, but when people like Posie Parker are engaging with right-wing misogynists to 'get the message out' and when Lina Bellos is going to the US to support anti-LGBT legislation because it's hurt the trans more - then I have great concern at the grave collateral damage that is already occurring.

Waterl00 · 18/10/2019 11:51

Lina Bellos is going to the US to support anti-LGBT legislation

Can you please share the anti-LGBT legislation you are refering to here?

Datun · 18/10/2019 11:57

Arf. It will be Venice Allan next. Followed by Julia Long.

All these women undermining peoples gender critical radical feminism 😂

2BthatUnnoticed · 18/10/2019 12:11

Posie has expressly said she is not a feminist and does not represent anyone but herself. If not for MN none of us would have heard of this interview.

JY, conversely is a self-styled “LGBT activist” who purports to represent the trans community.

And yet, when Posie “does wrong” (spoke to an obscure asshole no one has heard of) women who do not publicly denounce her are “allying with the far right.”

When JY does wrong (grooms minors, photographs girls in toilets, sues 16 women for not touching JY’s dick)... expecting TW to “denounce JY” is transphobic.

I wonder what the difference is.

TequilaPilates · 18/10/2019 12:19

Well, you clearly don't think anyone should denounce a person for being wrong so I don't see how you can argue that.

Personally, I think that no one should be above reproach, regardless of who they are or what they believe. If they do something that is questionable then they should be called out on it, including by their supporters.

I don't know what the intent was behind this interview. If it was solely, as she claims, to spread the word then I don't understand why she chose it to be on his channel. If no one else would have her on, why not start her own channel?

Butterisbest · 18/10/2019 12:24

Tequila Pilates
We all know that you don't understand why Posie made the choice that she did. You've told us several times.
I really don't understand why you don't just go and ask Posie?
Nobody on here can help you with this burning question. Ffs just go and ask her.

WotchaTalkinBoutWillis · 18/10/2019 12:24

If it was solely, as she claims, to spread the word then I don't understand why she chose it to be on his channel. If no one else would have her on, why not start her own channel?

Good point - I mean she's got her own social media platform - why go to far right platforms, further their aims, it'd be like preaching to the already converted!
I'd have thought it would be a better idea to try and reach people who don't know about issues, those politically "un radical" so to speak, to get more people listening instead of turning them away by going somewhere a lot of people won't want to click on or touch with a bargepole?

Datun · 18/10/2019 12:37

Personally, I think that no one should be above reproach,

The problem is, tequila, your finger wagging disapproval won't force people to bow to your version of integrity and admit their 'crimes', even if you paid them.

You seem to care for more than anyone else, who Posie is speaking to. Yet reserve all your energy and rage for people who don't.

It really isn't healthy.

2BthatUnnoticed · 18/10/2019 12:39

You misunderstand me Teq. If people regard the actions of person X as wrong, they are free to denounce them. Feel free to denounce anyone you want!

It is weird and controlling though, to pressure others to join you. Others may have different experiences and opinions.

I’m sure Posie would love to hear from you though. She’s on FB and easy to find.

TequilaPilates · 18/10/2019 12:44

It is weird and controlling though, to pressure others to join you. Others may have different experiences and opinions.

I'm not pressurising anyone to join me.

If people can't see a problem with aligning with white supremacists/alt right supporters then that says more about them.

I've looked at her Facebook page. It's all a bit too "fan girl" for me.

Datun · 18/10/2019 12:47

I'm not pressurising anyone to join me.

Excellent

Datun · 18/10/2019 12:53

I've looked at her Facebook page. It's all a bit too "fan girl" for me.

Eh?

So her campaigning against mutilating young women? Writing about the Gazza trial? The normalisation of plastic surgery resulting from objectifying women? The Australian women's cricket team that has four (remarkably unfit looklng) men on it? And deep concern over sexualised pole dancing classes for 10-year-old girls?

You saw none of that? Your only comment is about her supporters.

Got it.

2BthatUnnoticed · 18/10/2019 13:03

Great, I’m not pressuring anyone to join me either so looks like we’re all happy 😊

If her Facebook is too “fan girly” then surely some more robust interrogation would do it good?

clitherow · 18/10/2019 13:08

Just been reading this thread

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3719686-Sue-Evanss-court-case-against-GIDS

and watched this video

This woman is so calm and rational. She is pointing out that we are talking about the potential mass sterilisation of children, as is Posie.

Read the posts of all of those people on this thread who are attempting to divert attention from this shocking fact and channel it into an ad hominem attack and wonder about them.

TequilaPilates · 18/10/2019 13:08

Yes that's correct. There are too many "you rock" comments and "what tint do you use on your hair? How do you get that platinum colour" and not enough discussion of the topics that she posts.

I don't personally like campaigns that become more about the personalities involved than the actual subject.

clitherow · 18/10/2019 13:10

The people that count know what I mean

Waterl00 · 18/10/2019 13:11

I don't personally like campaigns that become more about the personalities involved than the actual subject.

And yet you have been here for days talking about her.
