Well some posters have “called her out!” As is their prerogative. Others don’t see a need to. As is theirs.

If you don’t approve of what PP is doing, why not start your own campaign and show us how it’s done.

2BthatUnnoticed · 15/10/2019 16:23

(My last comment was to some comment ages ago)

Yes, they conveniently omit the axis that puts them in the top 10% of the privilege pile!

"Racial profiling, we know the police do it, we know that subconsciously most people have a white preference and that people make snap assumptions based on race."

I totally agree with you about racial profiling and the facts about the US and its dire treatment of black people, particularly by the police, but I wouldn't agree that most people have a white preference. I was reading about the racism at the football last night, and I think some Eastern European countries, plus Italy are shocking when it comes to this.
I think there are many stereotypes, which hinder debate. However, what if we compare black girls to black boys, where there are clear academic differences, the black girls being noticeably better and then achieving more in the real World.
If you look at the UK parliament it is quite diverse, but if you look at the EU parliament, all 28 Commissioners are white, and only 3 out of 751 MEP's are black - that is shocking.

Penis news are covering this thread, with lots of rational comments such as we should be banned from working with children and posie needs a shag. I'm not sure that's very woke.

I think it is fundamentally different. A YouTube channel is a niche market.

This is a change in media overall, it's even increasingly true of what we call mainstream media. It used to be if you went on a mainstream channel or maybe two or three, chances are most people would see and hear you. Now to accomplish the same thing requires a different approach.

I don't know how successful it is, to try, but the idea that it implies some sort of selling out or agreement - you still haven't shown how that is more the case.
As for women telling other women their opinions are wrong if they don't sign up to what someone has decided all good feminists are supposed to think, that's just another example of the thought policing business. No room for discussion, dialogue, working through different perspectives, if you don't toe certain lines you aren't a good feminist no matter how well thought out your ideas are.
That's the thinking that got us into this polarised mess in the first place.

zebrasdontwearbras · 15/10/2019 20:08

Well at least they gave posie's response - which was a good one.

I note the printed on of Samantha1990's posts - as though she's a typical MNetter - rather than a plopper fan of gariepy's Hmm Hmm

This is the problem - anyone can post anything on Mumsnet - two of the infamous "transphobic" quotes that circulate on twitter were posted by a TRA who joined up with the username "12thGuelph" Hmm - but Mumsnet regulars have never posted anything like that.

Allison10 · 15/10/2019 20:32

As a transgender woman who just wants to live my life the best way I can; I’m afraid that Posies links to far right groups and her unabashed hostility towards folks like me is very concerning. This interview coincides with the report issued today showing that hate crime in the UK today is on the increase with a 37% increase in hate crime against transgender people.
Please folks carnt we live in peace and harmony

zebrasdontwearbras · 15/10/2019 20:54

Here's Posie's comment printed in PN:

Parker told PinkNews that she was asked to go on the show by Gariépy’s assistant, and that she gave his channel a cursory look and “nothing at the time stood out as anything unusual or problematic”.

She added: “I make it my business to avoid researching or policing the entire spectrum of someone’s views, I think the mutilation of healthy children’s bodies is too important, and so it’s not usual for me to do an FBI style background check.

“I am, of course, concerned at the accusations I have heard since recording the show. The misogyny was not something that surprised me, it is very much at home in both the left and the right of politics, whether it be the enforcement of traditional roles through to pretending we don’t know what a woman is.

“White supremacy and the racism that fuels it has no place in a civilised society, I abhor those views and the people that hold them. As a free speech advocate I think dialogue, even with those with the most odious prejudices, is essential. How are we ever to change or challenge them if we don’t engage? These days so many people are called Nazis and far right that the prophetic warning that we will no longer recognise the real ones is beginning to come true.”

Detroit19 · 15/10/2019 21:02

Posie said nothing to make me feel like she was at all sympathetic with the far right, nor did she say anything racist. Talking, discussing issues with those we disagree with is how reasonable adult humans make progress.

Its only the TRAs who want no debate.

Alison, if I thought you spared a single thought for actual women ild discuss with you how trans rights have impinged on my rights to feme only shelter.

SimplyTheWorst · 15/10/2019 21:24

Are some people here seriously engaging in argument about a Pink News article?

Anyway, for the record, here is Posie's unedited comment to Pink News:

"I will say this for Pink News, they do use almost all of the entire quote when they request one. This is what I said.

“Gariépy's assistant approached me to go on his show, I gave a cursory glance at some of his video titles, like "hypermodernity" and "the physics of biology", and saw he was someone that discussed politics such as leaving the left.. Nothing at the time stood out as anything unusual or problematic. Then once I'd seen that Lindsay Shephard, someone I admire, had been a guest I decided to accept. I make it my business to avoid researching or policing the entire spectrum of someone's views, I think the mutilation of healthy children's bodies is too important, and so it's not usual for me to do an FBI style background check. I am, of course, concerned at the accusations I have heard since recording the show. The misogyny was not something that surprised me, it is very much at home in both the left and the right of politics, whether it be the enforcement of traditional roles through to pretending we don't know what a woman is. White supremacy and the racism that fuels it has no place in a civilised society, I abhor those views and the people that hold them. As a free speech advocate I think dialogue, even with those with the most odious prejudices, is essential. How are we ever to change or challenge them if we don't engage? These days so many people are called Nazis and far right that the prophetic warning that we will no longer recognise the real ones is beginning to come true. I am currently in a fight to stop the erasure of women and the abuse of children, this is paramount to me. Canada wilfully puts children on permanently damaging puberty blockers and amputates the breasts of sixteen year old girls that think they're boys, this is something we should be talking about whenever we can, until it stops” "

SimplyTheWorst · 15/10/2019 21:32

And, since someone above has referred to the "hate crime" report for England & Wales released today, see the actual report and the actualdata tables:

www.gov.uk/government/statistics/hate-crime-england-and-wales-2018-to-2019

SimplyTheWorst · 15/10/2019 21:36

Ha ha! That video from two days ago has only had 4,802 views.

What a load of fuss about nothing!

2BthatUnnoticed · 15/10/2019 21:49

Who cares what Penis News says. They sided with JY over the 16 working class women who didn’t want to touch dicks or balls... gross.

Allison10 · 15/10/2019 21:51

Hi “ Simply the best “ I believe I was right in quoting a rise of 37% increase in hate crime against transgender folks

TequilaPilates · 15/10/2019 21:56

Actually, I think "don't work with white supremacists" is something that all good human beings should subscribe to. It's got nothing to do with being a good feminist.

Earlywalker · 15/10/2019 21:58

Posie’s statement is just great, almost as good as that statement she had to make that time, when she was kicked out of WPUK... what was that for again? Hmm

Oh god of course I Care about women and their rights, I used to work in the UK motor industry a very male testerone environment
I sat on the project group to promote “ women in Power “
All I am asking is for some kind of understanding that the very very majority of us just want to live our lives the best we can without the threat of violence against us committed by both male and female abusers

Aberhonddu · 15/10/2019 22:02

There have been many new posters on this thread. The I think that Posie Parker is a racist alt right Nazi and if you don't agree with me then you are too thread
It's been interesting to watch the obfuscation and twisting and turning by various posters.
Samantha 1990 was bizarre, all you non degree women shut up.
FWIW I think Posie is courageous, forthright, funny and gets her message across to many women and mothers that wouldn't consider themselves to be Feminists or Gender critical.
There's a war going on and women should be prepared to fight the battle and stop undermining other women.

Aberhonddu · 15/10/2019 22:24

Allison10
You're almost there , but not quite. Folks is a giveaway and the threat of violence against us committed by male and Female abusers

2BthatUnnoticed · 15/10/2019 22:25

I support everyone’s right to live in peace, in the way that makes them happiest. I also agree with Posie, that racism is abhorrent and has no place in a civilised society.

LangCleg · 15/10/2019 22:28

Goddess fucking save us.

All women and girls are asking is for some kind of understanding that the very very majority of us want to live our lives the best we can without the threat of violence against us committed by male abusers in all their forms.

DuMondeB · 15/10/2019 22:35

I believe I was right in quoting a rise of 37% increase in hate crime against transgender folks

Unfortunately, there is no such thing as hate crimes against women (except for a Nottingham pilot) so we can’t play hate crime top trumps with you.
