Yay to double the loos - cos queueing for the ladies in the interval is a right faff
But, what, no actual ladies loos? - NO ACTUAL WOMEN ONLY LOOS
twitter.com/oldvictheatre/status/1179336786537005057 - thread
"The Old Vic @oldvictheatre
Our loos now offer ‘self-selection’ rather than being labelled male or female. This takes a descriptive, rather than prescriptive, approach following advice from surveys conducted with focus groups."

That article said "the number of toilets for women will be doubled".

Presumably people donated on that basis?

So how is that not fraud exactly?

The Old Vic needs to explain themselves here.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 16:37

Well people are going to start peeing themselves on their nice new seats then aren’t they?

Anyway - I was in Libertys recently and they have a stupid mixed sex loos on the 2nd floor - right on a back staircase (looks like a staff one) so it’s a bit ‘out of the way’. People kept wandering up to the door (automatic) it would fly open they’d hover wondering if they had found the men’s or ladies. A couple of men walked in and turned around and walked confused out as soon as they say a queue of women.

The only man who stayed was a stocky chap with a face like a skelped arse who bowled in like he owned the place, shoved past everyone and walked into the disabled cubicle (giving those waiting a look of ‘why the fuck are you waiting, you idiots?’).

So there you have it - the type of men who don’t mind sharing.

HumberElla · 02/10/2019 16:41

They could easily have single sex and mixed sex loos. Everyone catered for.

Somebody at the Old Vic is very very keen that women don’t have privacy from men, under any circumstances. Why (and who) is that?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 16:42

Luvvies, eh? Which actress was lobbying for more ladies loos in theatres recently? Wonder if that’s what she had in mind.

Michelleoftheresistance · 02/10/2019 16:50

I really think this is going to have to prove beyond all doubt its a financial disaster before women's needs are considered. Because this is a business - and theatre isn't the most financially secure of businesses - intentionally and knowingly sticking two fingers up at 2/3rds of their income payers, and intentionally excluding women and girls of faith/culture/disability who cannot do the wokey cokey. This is quite bluntly, sexist, racist, disablist. And all about chasing the woke points from less than 1% of the population, who won't cover the income losses.

But we're going to need to see some businesses going bust before something changes, it has gone that far. It has become this socially and legally acceptable to exclude and oppress women, particularly the most vulnerable groups of women, in the face of legislation that was supposed to protect them.

HumberElla · 02/10/2019 16:54

Are there sanitary bins in the mixed sex toilets that have both cubicles and urinals? If not, why not if they’re all mixed sex?

HumberElla · 02/10/2019 16:56

Yes michelle I agree with you. If they want my money they’ll have to cater to my needs and wishes.

pearlkent · 02/10/2019 16:59

Totally agree Michelle. I for one will definitely not use those establishments that have adopted this crap. I will also email all the theatres I previously attended to tell them why. If I go somewhere where I don't know in advance what their facilities are like and they turn out to be unisex, I will sticker them and never darken their doors again.
We need a massive new sticker campaign specifically targeted at theatres.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 02/10/2019 16:59

In theory, I’d like to do a Sue White in Green Wing. But in practice...

Michelleoftheresistance · 02/10/2019 17:06

It is of course based (as all of this is) on the hope that women will just put up, shut up and get used to it. After some initial kicking off and moaning, so it's just a case of waiting that out.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 02/10/2019 17:07

It is a predator's mindset - insisting that unwilling women must share toilets with men. The statistics are all there as evidence that this is a bad thing. Women (when asked) are very clear that they don't want to share toilets with men - as are most men.
The main advocates are the predators (who are over represented in these decision making processes) and those who have been persuaded that this group are the most vulnerable ever in society and their desires must be met at all costs (especially if those costs involve removing rights from women).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 17:08

There really ought to be an app that tells you if the venue you are heading off to has single sex loos or not...

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 02/10/2019 17:14

all the plans available on the Lambeth planning portal show clearly separated mens and womens toilets

That's interesting. Any planners who can say if that is a significant change?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 17:17

Some smart person on twitter posted this...

Popchyk · 02/10/2019 17:58

And I'll just bet that the vast majority who donated to their crowdfunder for new loos are women. Because they were the ones affected by the lack of provision in the first place.

And the money has gone instead to increase male provision and decrease female provision.

It's a great trick of the patriarchy, isn't it? Screw women over and get them to pay for it.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 02/10/2019 18:00

I hope people who donated are going to get their money back.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 02/10/2019 18:01

I’d be asking for it back if I’d donated!

GrinitchSpinach · 02/10/2019 18:32

A long, long time ago in a galaxy far away, I worked in fundraising. At least in the US (and I would expect in the UK), organizations must be very, very clear about the allocation of the funds they raise. We had lawyers going over our every letter to ensure we were very precise in representing exactly where funds raised would go.

A tenner from me to the first donor to this campaign who takes the theatre to court for fraudulent fundraising (whatever the UK statute might be).

titchy · 02/10/2019 18:48

Wonder if a group of brave women could volunteer to tell front of house at the end of a matinee that they'd pissed on the seats as there weren't any loos they could use....

OrchidInTheSun · 02/10/2019 18:53

I'm going to report them to the charity commission. You have to email them first, and then escalate. I shall do just that (although I haven't donated). They lied to donors. That's a fraudulent misuse of funds isn't it?

TheChampagneGalop · 02/10/2019 18:56

It is.

HDDD · 02/10/2019 19:04

The more I think about this the more annoyed I get. And I'm still raging about the thread on here about the NHS selfID crap - which contradicts itself and should never have been published as actual guidance. It's all sneaking in and you have to keep your eyes everywhere to keep on top of it.
