Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Are feminists getting played?

It makes me sad that feminists are spending so much time banging on about bathrooms in a world that has women still working for no pay, old women still more likely to be poor, surrogacy, underfunded maternity care, and poor support for carers. And other stuff.

Yes, the trans thing is annoying, but have you noticed how it always fires up before major elections? It's like Afghanistan in the 80s when the US provided just enough weapons to keep the war going so Russia would use all it's energy and get weak.

I feel like feminism is getting distracted with the trans stuff. At most, it should take up 10 percent of our feminist attention. But I rarely see feminism these days that isn't all about trans. Seriously. Do you think we're getting played here? Is trans really such a big deal?

There are only two types of poster who post questions and wonder why on earth we're talking about this issue.

But that wasn't really the OP question.
Weirdly I think it is exactly the same as the reason the facial hair thing was taken down, people don't read very carefully.

Whether or not trans issues are overtaking more important questions in feminism is not someone saying its not an important issue.

In what way are the expectations around ale and female presentation different or similar is not "let's talk about men's hair".

It's always interesting to me in discussions like this that there are some posters who see the question and talk about it, often saying quite interesting things, while a few others others make the discussion impossible by telling everyone they shouldn't discuss it because it isn't relevant.

PCohle - asks why I'm (secretly) disappointed there's no flounce.

Me, tired, and thin from life, a throw away comment -
Dunno, it'd make an awesome soundtrack to Blondie?!¿
Why you asking??

PCohle - Because I think it's odd to be disappointed that you've failed to drive (another) woman away from discussing feminist issues here.

Me
Failed? Isn’t that a perception. You’re still here I see. Which is awesome, right. And I failed?
Disappointed - I’m sorry you feel inadequate

PCohle I value your input. Thanks.

Honest, your arguments are killer. I’m dying.

This one, the feminist issue that this thread is about.

So, @sakura184 , what is it specifically about the OP that exercises you?

"Is trans really such a big deal?"

If, by using the term "trans", the OP means transgenderist ideology, it is a huge deal because it is a very serious threat to the continuance of the current rights of women [females of any age].

sakura184 · 27/07/2019 16:44

@JackyHolyoake

I've made loads of points about it, you haven't been reading them

PCohle · 27/07/2019 16:45

I'm sorry, I really couldn't follow that GirlDownStairs

Handwaving your remarks as a "throwaway comment" is an excellent way to fail to take responsibility for your own words though.

usernameishistory · 27/07/2019 16:46

dadsnet this way

On topic, of feminism being 'distracted' by trans issues or taking up too much time with trans issues.

From my personal experience sadly (see my post on previous page), the amount of time spent dealing with issues raised by trans of late is commensurate with the amount of issues being caused by trans to women and increased suffering.

Thats on topic, and why would anyone have a problem with that, male or female?

Or just ignore it if it doesnt matter, but it does matter for womens rights.

LonginesPrime · 27/07/2019 16:48

As a male feminist I often find the trans discussions a bit offputting tbh

LordRudolph, well it's a good job feminism isn't about you, isn't it?

It's all very well saying you're a male feminist 'and before people challenge me on that definition, I'm different and this is why..', but then to cry 'what about the mens?' and complain that women on the FWR board aren't taking your beard grooming concerns seriously just serves to illustrate why men can't actually be feminists.

usernameishistory · 27/07/2019 16:48

Is that 'on topic' enough?

If you are being sarcastic, or picking at other posters you are not on topic, you are just picking at other posters.

GirlDownUnder · 27/07/2019 16:48

PCohle if you want to address me, at least be astute or intelligent enough to address me by my name.

@sakura184

I have read every post in this thread .. it seems to me you are asking for women to ignore the biggest threat to their rights in over 100 years and focus on other issues affecting women.

What you seem to fail to understand is that if we do not secure those existing rights women have no grounds for discussing any other issues that affect women.

Transgenderist ideology means that the female sex class ceases to exist as a distinct entity in the world. How can women talk about issues affecting females if such a distinct sex class ceases to exist because it also includes males? That is, the sex class that is female become a mixed sex class.

Given that, under patriarchy, it is so organised that the male sex class is dominant and the female sex class is subjugated to the will and desire of males, the converse has zero impact on the male sex class.

I am not in any way convinced that those demanding to be 'on topic' are being genuine; are not remaining on topic/hypocritical

It's the name of a character from True Detective. The pronunciation literally never entered my head. I'm a long standing MN user, if you think I'm some kind of pervert you're welcome to report. Hmm

Ta-dah.

I hope my username passes muster to be allowed to post here now.

LassOfFyvie · 27/07/2019 17:27

Yes let it be noted that when I've been humiliated on here LordRudolphVII joins in with the pile on

You have not been humiliated on here. Lord Randolph's post was fair comment. You do post sweeping generalisations and make random topic changes.

Ok. So the MN board are welcoming and inclusive, unless someone manages to come up with an unfortunate interpretation of your user name, you apologise and change it, upon which you'll be called stupid and accused ever forth of being a man and a pervert?

All because whilst you recognise that trans issues are important, you personally feel they are dominating the discussion too much and discouraging young women from engaging with feminism.
