I used to be a member of Amnesty.

My husband supports Amnesty. I don't like them and haven't for years, they seem to increasingly be about trying to make sure every country takes on the current western viewpoint on everything.

It was always a thin line for them to walk on that, but I think they've crossed pretty resolutely and without a second thought.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 19/07/2019 00:44

Me too. Till they started shoving women and children under the bus in more than one policy area - see also all the "sex work" (aka prostitution) - cheerleading stuff, and men's "right" to sex, ffs. I am still very Sad about it because they still do a lot of other great work, but couldn't keep supporting them any longer.

FloralBunting · 19/07/2019 00:49

Well that's a load of old pony from the pimp-positive plonkers at Amnesty. The T in LGBT isn't silent? I'm sure everyone is really surprised by that.🙄

Watchfulwaiter · 19/07/2019 01:11

It was the slogan that got to me. How foolish can a person be to hold such a placard?

OP posts:
ErrolTheDragon · 19/07/2019 01:20

'I am who I say I am'

Someone escaped either from jail for being a con artist or a psychiatric ward might like one of those placards too, if there's any going begging.

GirlDownUnder · 19/07/2019 01:28

'I am who I say I am'

So yes, that bank account with millions is mine, and of course I won't need a passport to leave the country Hmm

Erythronium · 19/07/2019 07:35

Amnesty also supports the pimp lobby to get pimps and johns decriminalised.

Hateful anti-woman organisation.

JellySlice · 19/07/2019 08:52

When someone tells you who they are - listen.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/07/2019 08:56

' Love is a human right' - what does that mean? Sex or 'everybody should be nice to everyone else all the time'?

Marshmarigoldssss · 19/07/2019 08:58

Yes, cancelled my Amnesty direct debit earlier this year (along with NSPCC). Had been a supporter of Amnesty for 20 plus years.

FormerMediocreMale · 19/07/2019 08:59

Some odd placards! All a bit coercive and rapey, you force someone to love anyone.

Nowadays I don't expect much from amnesty though so not shocked or disappointed.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/07/2019 09:14

' Love is a human right' - what does that mean? Sex or 'everybody should be nice to everyone else all the time'?

Surely the only sense in which love (or sex) can be a 'right' is that no one should be prevented from loving whoever they want or from having sex with any other freely consenting adult.

There can be no 'right' of reciprocity or provision. Love and sex aren't commodities or services.

TheRedBarrows · 19/07/2019 09:15

Oh the irony.

I have always supported Amnesty in their defence of people persecuted for exercising their right to free speech.

Never have I felt my own free speech so under attack, due to the Trans Rights lobby.

Lumene · 19/07/2019 09:16

Amnesty is a men’s sexual rights organisation now, campaigning against women’s rights.

I also cancelled a long standing direct debit to them when I discovered this.

TheRedBarrows · 19/07/2019 09:16

NOTHING in the GRA precludes anyone loving or being loved. What are they on about?

IfIShouldFallFromGraceWithGod · 19/07/2019 09:19

I used to support amnesty but no longer. I've always thought the nspcc were a chocolate teapot but they are proving more danger than that
I no longer trust any major charity. Jobs for white, middle class men and not much concern for the causes they are supposed to support
Or Ruth Hunt in Stonewalls case. She linked success with how much money Stonewall have so that tells you everything. By the rich for the rich

scalliondays · 19/07/2019 09:29

I was also an Amnesty supporter for years but cancelled my monthly payment when they sent me leaflets pushing trans rights with no thought about the impact on women. The fact that they're pro prostitution and against the Nordic Model says a lot.

BahHumbygge · 19/07/2019 09:35

"I am who I say I am" only seems to work in one direction. I am biologically a woman and demand rights, spaces and my basic definition on that basis... why is that never acknowledged or respected Hmm

Loopytiles · 19/07/2019 09:38

I left Amnesty over their policy on prostitution and “right” to sex. This is unsurprising but poor.

Daughterofmabel · 19/07/2019 09:43

All charities appear to have been infiltrated at the highest level. It’s hugely concerning 🤔

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 19/07/2019 09:50

'I am who I say I am'

for fucks sake. unthinking fools

LangCleg · 19/07/2019 09:56

Amnesty was thoroughly captured by dick pandering long ago.

Large charities, yes. An endless catalogue of depravity and misogyny. I've given up on the lot of them and now only give to small, local groups whose organisers are known to me personally.

I hate being so mistrustful but I cannot and will not support sexual exploitation.
