I used to be a member of Amnesty.

I too used to support Amnesty until i realised they prioritised men's rights over women's safety and dignity. I cannot get passed them promoting single sex toilets in the third world while advocating for mixed sex toilets, changing rooms, refuges and prisons in the western world because of the poor, misunderstood transwomen who still have male genitalia. Every few months i get a phone call asking for money and i explain in great detail why i will give them nothing to an uncomprehending innocent telephone sales person. I know it's a waste of time but I keep hoping they have a chance to report back why I will not donate.

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 19/07/2019 10:13

"I am who I say I am" only seems to work in one direction. I am biologically a woman and demand rights, spaces and my basic definition on that basis... why is that never acknowledged or respected

Exactly - try saying who I am is not cis and zee where that gets you...apparently we are who they say we are too.

stillathing · 19/07/2019 10:13

"I am who I say I am"

OK then how about "I'm a person with a £100 monthly DD to Amnesty."

I'd expect a charity to understand that to others, our actions define us far more than our internal beliefs or what we say.

HorsewithnoRegretsNonJeNeRegre · 19/07/2019 10:26

Amnesty was thoroughly captured by dick pandering long ago...

At school I used to sit next to a lad called Dick Pandering.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/07/2019 10:46

"I am who I say I am" is infantile.

The real world does not work like that even when you are truthful about who you are.

I for example am an atheist, born and raised in a family who have been atheists for generations. I have never been a member of any religion. I went to a non-denominational school. In west central Scotland where such schools are perceived to be Protestant. I have been perceived to be Protestant my whole entire life. The factual reality that I am not Protestant makes not one jot of difference, people still automatically perceive me as such, such is the cultural bias of my particular society.

If society can't even manage to change its perceptions on the basis of things that are true on what planet do these fools think society is going to do so on the basis of blatant and obvious falsehoods?

They may get people to chant mantras and keep their mouths shut under threat of job loss or prosecution but they can't force people to believe.

They need to grow up.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 10:55

Yes, it’s complete bollocks. Falsely claiming to have a qualification in the workplace will have you swiftly shown the door. Practising as a doctor without a license is a criminal offence.
Attempting to claim the state pension at the age of 25 would have you laughed out of the building.
But anyone can claim they’re a woman and their right to do so is being written into law.
🤔

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 19/07/2019 11:00

I stopped supporting Amnesty years ago because of their misogyny, which only seems to have got worse.

Like so many other organisations these days it's all about male sexual entitlement. And it's shameful.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 19/07/2019 11:07

I stopped supporting Amnesty because of their support for pimps and johns at the expense of sexually exploited women and children. This shit doesn't surprise me.

As for 'love is a human right':

NOBODY is entitled to romantic love. It is categorically NOT a human right. That is incel logic right there on those fucking placards. Arguably, minor children should be entitled to parental love- but nobody else owes you their affection.

Consenting adults have a right to privacy and should be able to marry other consenting adults of either sex, or gender presentation. That is not the same thing as saying 'love is a human right'.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 11:08

Excellent post, Waters

RedToothBrush · 19/07/2019 11:32

I'm a cat.

Therefore I am not liable for taxation.

RedToothBrush · 19/07/2019 11:33

I'm a French woman, therefore I can apply for a French passport and retain my EU citizenship.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 19/07/2019 11:40

"I am who I say I am" is a toddler's view of the world. None of us can alter reality.

As for "love is a human right" we're back to Cotton Ceiling/incel rhetoric. No. No one has a right to love. You don't get assigned a compliant partner just because you want one. It's insanity.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/07/2019 11:53

"Love is a human right" isn't even honest when what they're really trying to say is "sexual intercourse is a human right".

No. No it isn't. If you die a virgin your rights have not been breached at all. No one has the 'right' to sexual relationships.

WhatTheWatersShowedMe · 19/07/2019 11:59

It's infuriating, and worryingly vague. If what they are trying to say is "homosexual relationships are illegal and homosexual acts are punishable by death in several countries in the world and that is a breach of homosexual people's human rights" THEN FUCKING SAY THAT.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/07/2019 12:29

Given the image was attached to a piece about trans activism I kind of assumed it wasn't about homosexuality at all, but rather about the fact virtually no one wants to have relationships with trans identifying individuals.

I accept I could be wrong about that though.

HeadintheiClouds · 19/07/2019 12:31

How fucking dare Amnesty International take up their cause?!

PickleC · 19/07/2019 12:41

I'm still helping run a local group but was very unhappy with how the prostitution position evolved and am keeping a watching eye on the trans actions. Luckily in a position to steer the actions we take in the group in other directions I feel comfortable with (plenty of other issues we can cover).

Helentvpritchard · 20/07/2019 06:18

I used to be a man but for the past 10 years I have lived fulltime as a women and I am extremely happy.

HandsOffMyRights · 20/07/2019 06:53

It was an extra kick in the teeth when Jess Phillips MP was asked by my friend (a constitute) to attend the A Woman's Place/Fair play for Women event in Westminster and she said she couldn't go because she was going to Amnesty.

DpWm · 20/07/2019 08:19

I stopped supporting them after Shon Faye and the "women's" award.

Loopytiles · 20/07/2019 12:23

“At school I used to sit next to a lad called Dick Pandering”

Grin
Loopytiles · 20/07/2019 12:24

Poor kid!

Helentvpritchard · 20/07/2019 12:37

As I have 2 terminal conditions I don't care what any one thinks about me living my life as a woman

HeadintheiClouds · 20/07/2019 12:43

Nobody cares
