I think a lot of his argument rests on the assertion that certain things, like saying people should use the toilets of their birth sex, are "undeniably transphobic".

If that is your starting point, your anchor, then of course the language around it must mean something less clear than it seems.

OldCrone · 16/07/2019 13:28

The 'confused child' comment was a bit patronising, but I do think that most teenage girls who think they're boys are confused. This is a video by a young woman who has detransitioned. She spent the last 5 or 6 years thinking she was trans, because she's 'not very good at being a woman'.

I see a comment from a fellow TRA:

Wow this is ace. About how people hide transphobia and anti-trans sentiment in innocent sounding language by @JayHulmePoet

That's very 1984 meets Puritan witch hunt. 'Your words seem innocent, but we know they have secret, evil meanings!'

littlbrowndog · 16/07/2019 13:40

We can never do enough to appease. Never

Until we just agree to being erased

Then we could just become carriers

justasking111 · 16/07/2019 13:47

When they have their genitalia removed and a vagina created as my neighbour did, then excuse me if I prefer them not to be in my loo, changing room, kids school. Why do they need their tackle anymore anyway if they are in truth women.

JackyHolyoake · 16/07/2019 13:48

Birth gender? What, did the baby come out draped in a rainbow flag singing Liza Minnelli showstoppers?

Cracking up here!

[PS: when they say "birth gender" they mean natural sex.]

Datun · 16/07/2019 13:51

Wow this is ace. About how people hide transphobia and anti-trans sentiment in innocent sounding language by @JayHulmePoet**

It's not innocent sounding language. It's just language. Words. Definitions. Meanings.

If you can't define any of the words you're going to use, you can't define your terms. If you can't define your terms what the hell are you debating for?

This entire debate rests upon the definition of the word woman. And Jay can't define it.

HerFemaleness · 16/07/2019 14:10

It feels like I've walked in to a Monty Python sketch.

"THE WOMEN WERE USING REASONABLE ARGUMENTS AND INNOCENT SOUNDING LANGUAGE!! THIS IS PROOF OF THEIR GUILT OF HERESY MOST FOUL"

JackyHolyoake · 16/07/2019 14:11

This entire debate rests upon the definition of the word woman. And Jay can't define it.

Yet, UK law defines it easily:

woman = a female of any age
man = a male of any age.

So Jay should have no further difficulty here.

Gingerkittykat · 16/07/2019 14:22

The young woman detransitioning has showed a lot of courage, and recognised that trans ideology is a cult and she had to play mental gymnastics to justify herself.

I'm so glad she has seen she needs to accept her body the way it is.

She's seems so lacking in confidence, I just want to mother her.

My own DD was one of the young people she describes born between 1995 and 2000, luckily she just identified as non binary so no talk of physical transitioning. Of the group of 3 of them in her college class who identified as trans/ non binary 2 now accept they are their birth sex.

LangCleg · 16/07/2019 14:25

I just don't really find writing based around endless solipsism particularly compelling really.

Ereshkigal · 16/07/2019 15:02

This is mainly what I remember of Jay Hulme, Trans Poet:

HandsOffMyRights · 16/07/2019 15:10

Jay has previously offered to 'educate' Jacqueline Wilson for her wrongspeak. As well as this delightful message.

This is why mumsnet is considered transphobic
Boom25 · 16/07/2019 15:12

I dont find MN transphobic and neither does anyone I know. Just because a few mouthy activists say it is , doesn't mean it actually is.

HandsOffMyRights · 16/07/2019 15:13

Oh and watch yourselves MN transphobes as Jay has the backing of a big, strong man.

This is why mumsnet is considered transphobic
OldCrone · 16/07/2019 15:17

That's a bizarre tweet, Ereshkigal. I remember seeing it before, but hadn't realised this was the same person. Jay should go to one of the meetings and hear what women are really saying, instead of fabricating threats that don't exist.

Datun · 16/07/2019 15:18

Dear lord.

FloralBunting · 16/07/2019 15:20

Oh, Jay has male friends who will be violent to women if we don't comply?

I am so surprised.

Datun · 16/07/2019 15:22

Why would you fabricate a threat that doesn't exist? What's the purpose?

To whip up pushback against women, underpinned by standing next to your giant beefy mate, who gets 'very angry with transphobes'?

Jay's alleged 'command of language' appears as transparent as all the other TRA nonsense 🤣

Datun · 16/07/2019 15:27

Oh, Jay has male friends who will be violent to women if we don't comply?

In the same breath as being furious with women's assertions that :

"Men shouldn’t be allowed in women’s spaces”

“We need single-sex changing rooms”

I mean you couldn't make it up. We think you're bloody transphobic for wanting female only spaces, and my big, male mate will smack you one if you disagree.

Ereshkigal · 16/07/2019 15:31

I see the Very Angry Big Gentle Giant post was made after the Jam Jar event. I think it's pretty clear who was under attack, verbally abused and at risk most at that meeting, and it wasn't Jay and Jay's friends.

So a tad disingenuous of Jay.

DuMondeB · 16/07/2019 15:45

We talk about biology here, periods, menopause, fertility, conception, motherhood, breastfeeding, menopause, women’s cancers...

So of course ‘Mumsnet’ is ‘transphobic’.

AnyOldPrion · 16/07/2019 15:47

I am not saying I agree with the article. I don’t. I do worry how we will ever reach a resolution though.

Ultimately I think reality will reassert itself. Simple as that.

There is no debate as transactivism is fighting a battle for something impossible, to whit the right to literally be the opposite sex, even though in that redefinition, the opposite sex will cease to exist as a separate entity.

And though the powers that be are being bought and sold for now, I think in the end, evidence based reality will return.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 16/07/2019 15:48

Why do they think that this opposition is there?

Mostly they don't 'think'.

Mostly they are young, inexperienced and from highly privileged backgrounds.

Some will always be spoiled, privileged idiots. Most, hopefully, will grow up one day.

The question is how much damage they do in the mean time.

Yeahnahyeah · 16/07/2019 15:54

Is Jay only 21?
So young.
So invested in this.
Over invested.
Waaayyy over invested.
I hope it all pans out ok for you Jay in the years to come.
