I can’t tell you how utterly disappointed I feel by her comments about Sex and reproduction not being binary. She knows the truth, what the hell is she doing? I’m even more upset by her than by Sarah Champion, she’s a Scientist ffs.

Whatever would be she call a person who'd had borne a baby (as she has, I believe)? Or one who has/had the equipment to do so (however functional* that may be)?

*I have tried to find a more sympathetic word and failed. Apologies to those with fertility issues.

bellinisurge · 19/06/2019 22:05

Thick be? That should be "one" Grin

Barracker · 19/06/2019 22:06

The way I look at the world, and my concept of myself in time and space, has been completely transformed by becoming amother. I gave birth to my first baby in 2010, and at that precise moment, I had an incredible, almost mystical, feeling of being connected –connected with my own ancestors, and connected with my descendants. I felt more than an individual: I was a link in the chain of life. For me, it was a very female thing. I was giving birth to a daughter, just as I had come from my mother, and she from her mother, and back and back in time.

If you're a man reading this, while you may not be able to give birth you could reflect in a similar way about your Y chromosome, which connects you to a lineage of male ancestors. Admittedly, it might not feel quite as epic, but then there's nothing like childbirth to make a thought seem momentous.

What's the 'red hair thing'?

She dies her hair a vivid red colour. I used to have lilac hair in my youth - when it was not that common to have hair dyed in vivid primary colours; but these days it is very common to have pink, blue, red, green hair in certain social circles. Kind of denotes a certain 'unconventional' political/social stand-point. Of which transgenderism is one.

Mxyzptlk · 19/06/2019 22:08

The man may genuinely 'feel female', no need to tell him he's wrong about that, but he isn't actually female.

realdoctor · 19/06/2019 22:13

Ah, thanks for clearing that up.

It's a shame that people are so superficial. If your biggest political commitment is your hair colour, well then ...

I had blue hair in my youth but that was before it was cool.

tobee · 19/06/2019 22:27

Is having blue hair cool now? Or is it having no personality and following the crowd? Faux wackiness.

LangCleg · 19/06/2019 22:27

Poor old DH. He's in mourning. Alice Roberts has been his tellybox crush since her Time Team days. I am mocking him ruthlessly, so Alice's wokery hasn't been entirely infuriating today.

AlwaysComingHome · 19/06/2019 22:29

There was a maths paper a few years back showing how hipsters, in trying to look different, ended up all looking exactly alike.

realdoctor · 19/06/2019 22:33

I'm so glad I found you lot ...

Eaudear · 19/06/2019 22:37

The appropriation of people with DSDs into all this is disgusting.

realdoctor · 19/06/2019 22:44

I agree and I'm glad that some people with DSDs are pointing this out on twitter.

MitziK · 19/06/2019 22:45

My hair colour (which has been all of those quoted at different times) has absolutely fuck all to do with my politics or feminism. I just like having hair that's not white in parts different colours.

Eaudear · 19/06/2019 22:46

I know, it's so offensive!

But it's the same as when they lump in black women with trans women, or South American trans sex workers, anyone they can use for their own gain they will.

I keep trying to work back, but I'm kind of lost as to why they are trying to say that sex isn't binary anyway?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 19/06/2019 22:47

I'm sorry to report that NHM Josh has a 2.1 in Biology from UCL and is nearly 30. So not an intern with a Gender Studies degree.

SmallHaddockAndChips · 19/06/2019 22:48

The comments on her Twitter thread and the ridiculous NHM ‘queer’ animals thing are well worth reading - cheered me right up, someone has even called her pusillanimous, which a word I think we should all use a bit more often!

HumberElla · 19/06/2019 22:49

Blimey Baracker are those Alices words?
Woke my arse, Alice is as GC as they come! Unfortunately it appears she also has zero problem throwing integrity to the wall for the right cookies.

AlwaysComingHome · 19/06/2019 22:49

Yes, the DSD thing is really offensive. I can’t imagine how it must feel to struggle with, say, infertility, only for someone in Roberts’s position to claim that because your karyotype is atypical you aren’t a real woman anyway.

littlbrowndog · 19/06/2019 22:53

Just googled her as never heard of her.

She got a job at bbc. She got toe party line but does seem like a long line of idiots or has no backbone at bbc
Grifters have to grift

It’s basically to add confusion. It’s so that if they can keep you talking about androgen insensitivity Syndrome or Klinefelter’s you won’t notice that the woman who wants to use your bathroom has none of these conditions and is male in every conceivable way.

Iusedtobeanicegirl · 19/06/2019 22:56

I've spent a bit of time at Birmingham uni recently and it's all gender neutral toilets (seats up, piss everywhere Hmm) and aggressively woke, so I'm not surprised that she's toeing the party line. Very disappointing though.

OccasionalKite · 19/06/2019 23:04

AlwaysComingHome, yes:

Have noticed this so many times now, and in a few different ways, but always the same pattern of deflection and obfuscation.

littlbrowndog · 19/06/2019 23:05

Grifters got to grift and that is what she is doing

Or really thick

Twitter handing her back her bum on this

TigerCubScout · 19/06/2019 23:09

What a disappointment - she's a scientist ffs.
Anyway she's now on a Twitter break.
