Probably outing since I use this leisure centre frequently, I know it's not the first incident in the 3 years or so since it changed from single sex facilities.

Comments on local FB page with women saying they now feel unsafe taking their kids there, but I'm sure all council facilities in our region are mixed sex, they have also done away with all womens only swim and health suite sessions.

Second incident this year alone.

The wetherspoons toilets are also like any other spoons ie down several flights of stairs so an easy target. Thankfully I have my radar key so can use the disabled upstairs.

So what are the sports centre saying? What are they going to do to stop this? I hope people hit the sports centre with a petition/protests to get single sex changing reinstated.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 13/06/2019 13:10

Is anyone expected to have sympathy for him? All that "he was scared, nervous, asked to leave by the back door"

Gargh!

Sexnotgender · 13/06/2019 13:13

This never happens though right?

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 13/06/2019 13:13

Yet more evidence that mixed changing is a truly lousy idea. What a creep.

stillathing · 13/06/2019 13:28

I went to my nearest Gap yesterday and discovered their fitting rooms were now mixed sex (they used to have 2, now just 1 mixed).

I had a buggy with me and waited for the one large cubicle. After an age I heard the "snap" noise of the disabled seat flipping up & a man came out, without any clothes with him. He legged it away. I then had to spend ages trying to see if there was anything suspect inside as he clearly hadn't been trying anything on. The fitting rooms weren't supervised. Tbh I don't think I'll bother returning.

Gingerkittykat · 13/06/2019 13:46

I've contacted a local feminist group to see if they are interested in campaigning for single sex facilities. It is certainly a subject I want to challenge.

As far as I know the sports and leisure trust have made no public comment.

BlooperReel · 13/06/2019 13:51

The fitting rooms weren't supervised.

I had this exact twitter row with someone over a year ago, a TRA arguing that ALL fitting rooms are supervised and acting as if I was lying or stupid to say otherwise. Makes me so angry

Bluerussian · 13/06/2019 14:05

How stupid to blame his pervy habit on cannabis smoking, never heard that one before.

GrinitchSpinach · 13/06/2019 14:33

So effing tired of being told, usually by men, that women's concerns about safety and privacy come from a place of bigotry or pearl-clutching rather than, you know, rational concerns about SHIT MEN ACTUALLY DO.

butteryellow · 13/06/2019 15:26

a TRA arguing that ALL fitting rooms are supervised and acting as if I was lying or stupid to say otherwise

Maybe if you only go shopping on a Saturday that might be true.. but if you're popping in with the toddler on a Tuesday morning, no. The changing rooms are not supervised - in fact, I can't actually think of the last time I saw a supervised changing room.. probably about 10 years ago getting jeans in Matalan!

jay55 · 13/06/2019 15:31

Makes a nice change that the Sheriff didn't buy his story and has put him on the Sex offenders register.

finnmcool · 13/06/2019 15:38

Gingerkitty who runs that leisure centre?

To all of you who disagree with mixed changing rooms, please have a look at my thread.
Risk assessments for changing rooms. Emails to and from GLL and a letter M&S wrote me are on there.
I'm trying to hold companies accountable for their lack of safeguarding/risk assessments.

As an aside, GLL who run Better Gyms haven't risk assessed their trans access to female space policy.
I am waiting to hear back from Zurich, their insurers.

Anlaf · 13/06/2019 15:55

This man plead guilty yesterday to voyeurism - after taking images under a cubicle partition in the family changing area of a Virgin Active Gym in East London

As we know, this is not uncommon: courtnewsuk.co.uk/?s=voyeurism

@finnmcool

It's Fife Sports and Leisure Trust.

I'll go and have a look for your thread. I want to try and do something but don't know where to start.

OP posts:
finnmcool · 13/06/2019 23:42

@Gingerkittykat
The correct title for my thread was...
Risk assessments regarding clothes shops changing rooms

I know what you mean about not knowing where to start. I got some really helpful advice on there.

When I first approached GLL I asked to speak to the safeguarding officer.
I have been communicating with their national safeguarding officer.

On the back of the advice on my thread, I approached GLL insurers.
Hope that helps Grin

finnmcool · 13/06/2019 23:56

@Gingerkittykat just emailed them.

To whom it may concern,

I would like the following information please.

Risk assessments regarding trans access to female changing facilities.

Risk assessments regarding changing villages instead of single sex provision.

Details of your insurers, including policy number.

Oops sorry wrong thread

S1naidSucks · 14/06/2019 01:21

VallarMorghulis it reads like a letter to handmaidens about the TRAs. 😁

Who the hell do all the big companies think they are?
They are exposing us to the increased likelihood of voyeurism and assault!

Popchyk · 15/06/2019 22:06

And another from this week.

www.leaderlive.co.uk/news/17691777.ten-years-for-flintshire-man-convicted-of-attempted-rape-and-false-imprisonment/

A DEESIDE man who hid in pub ladies toilets, put his Hawaiian T-shirt over a terrified woman's head and tried to rape her in a cubicle has been jailed for 10 years.
