Rape Crisis Centre 'likes' tweet calling women hateful bigots

A Rape Crisis Centre has 'liked' a tweet calling a panel of professional & academic women, including Julie Bindel and Rosa Freedman, 'misogynistic transphobes' 'hateful' & 'bigots'.

They are part of a panel discussing Women's Sex-Based Rights, UN CEDAW and how to protect them, at an event in Edinburgh University next month.

This comes after senior politicians have stated that women should be able to meet and discuss topics without being abused.

Shameful. Have retweeted.

KarenTheCashRegister · 08/05/2019 09:13

Just dreadful.

Genderfreelass · 08/05/2019 09:18

A Palling but sadly not shocking 😕

Nice to see Joan McAlpine standing up for women again and pointing out about funding 😊

AhhhHereItGoes · 08/05/2019 09:18

I think a lot of organisations now are afraid to show discrimination of any kind in case they are attacked. Unfortunately these days everyone is so frightened of being PC they are forgetting to just be kind but practical.

There is no real freedom of speech right now. Don't get me wrong - I don't think you should be hateful. Say nothing at all if it's unkind or set your views in a reasonable but not hateful way. But seems that's not allowed anymore.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 08/05/2019 09:20

yes, shameful. a rape crisis centre standing against women having the right to freely express their opinions. what the actual fuck? talk about losing your way

LangCleg · 08/05/2019 09:21

I see they undid the tweets - too little, too late.

How shameful: women can't even donate to Rape Crisis these days without being safe in the knowledge it will prioritise women.

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/05/2019 09:28

When truth and facts are framed as unkind and hateful - women are between a rock and a hard place. Women standing up for themselves is now 'hateful' and rapidly becoming an acceptable reason to deny them services, access and equal protection under law. If women don't stand up for themselves then what happens to them - in silence - is far more hateful and aggressive. You won't find anywhere a woman making threats of violence, sexual violence, death threats etc towards TRAs. You'll find thousands and thousands of threats towards women though. And that's perfectly all right.

Rape Crisis Centre hates women - and is now focused on pleasing and servicing a political trans lobby. Women, know thy place.

Ok then.

I'm serious. We need to start grass roots funding underground services for women, by women, unencumbered by all this shit, the way women have had to do since the beginning of time. We'll call it the Red Tent or something. The underground lesbian groups that have to meet in secret to avoid being taken over and forcibly 're centred' by men will probably help.

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2019 09:36

Wtaf is wrong with these women. Have they lost the ability to use their brains
😡😡🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

2BthatUnnoticed · 08/05/2019 09:38

The “Young Women Scotland” org liked the same tweet. And despite now “un-liking” it, they have just uncritically accepted a random tweeter’s verdict that feminist Sarah Ditum is a “transphobe” and must be de-platformed.

Why are these organisations so cowardly?

Michelle I agree, we need to support women at grassroots level.

Also find organisations that advocate for girls and women and donate (if we can afford to).

So they just took their word for it that she's transphobic? Unbelievable!

littlbrowndog · 08/05/2019 09:48

Jeez packs of total tools bleating the same old stuff

Transphobes hateful blah blah blah

Brainless idiots getting dog whistled by other idiots

Not a fucking clue

RuffleCrow · 08/05/2019 09:53

It's about who's running the social media accounts as much as anything else. Organisations tend to get v young 'woke' interns in to do this as they're seen as being more tech-savvy (and they're cheap as chips) but unfortunately this runs the risk of turning into a woke mouthpiece that perhaps wasn't what was intended. Word of advice: get these kids stuffing envelopes and making tea - teach grownups with diplomacy and legal knowledge to run your social media accounts instead.

Bindelj · 08/05/2019 09:59

Absolute bellends

AhhhHereItGoes · 08/05/2019 10:01

@Michelleoftheresistance if you were coming on my use of the word hateful I didn't mean any criticism is hateful but only those deliberately goody or vindictive.

Comment 1: TWAW - because you can't grow an extra X chromosome and drop a Y one." May be hard to take as a trans person but it's the truth and not nasty so therefore, not hateful.

Comment 2: "Most transwoman are sexual predators. I expect they are doing all this just to be able to easily access women. I don't believe anyone can be confused about their sex or gender." Inflammatory, assumptive etc so would class as hateful.

Sorry if you weren't referring to my comment just wanted to point that out. Smile

SarahTancredi · 08/05/2019 10:08

I hope to God that one day they wont have the need to use these services. Because only then will they see what they are really fighting for. And I wouldn't wish that on anybody. Ever.

OldCrone · 08/05/2019 10:12

Sarah Ditum's article. It's not even about trans people, it's about gender neutral parenting.

www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/may/05/it-was-all-going-so-well-until-the-nail-polish-incident

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 08/05/2019 10:17

But OldCrone, if you disagree with someone on one point, you’re not allowed to listen to them about anything else at all

Surely we have learned this lesson by now from all the people who come to tell us off about linking to daily mail or spectator articles?

Down with some plurality!

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 08/05/2019 10:18

Oh, random some at the end there

OldCrone · 08/05/2019 10:58

if you disagree with someone on one point, you’re not allowed to listen to them about anything else at all

This is the problem with letting the kids run the social media accounts. They tend to be members of a 'tribe', and follow whatever the view is of the tribe, rather than just thinking for themselves about which bits of the tribal view to support and which to reject. Because of course if they don't agree with everything they might be cast out by the tribe.

What will it take for the idealistic youth to realise their progressive, tolerant and 'woke' movement has been taken over by middle aged men with fetishes, who are neither tolerant nor progressive?

Just thinking on how it's got this far - young people want to be edgy and different, and not like their boring parents. The 'boring parents' (middle aged women) are warning them about what's going on, but the kids rebel. Some older people (middle aged men with fetishes) are encouraging the youth movement - they're joining in, not being the boring parents warning their kids of danger - so they're seen as OK.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 08/05/2019 11:09

To an extent aren’t youth movements always co-opted by older people for their own ends? I’m thinking of the 60s free love movement

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 08/05/2019 11:29

Have a look at FVRC blog posts. I'm sure from memory they put something out during the consultation...
