I'm Suspended from Twitter

Gingernaut · 06/05/2019 20:10

and it appears to be permanent.

Not for swearing, violent threats or promoting hatred, but for pointing out to a MtF transgender person that his male entitlement was showing.

I've appealed, but I'm not hopeful.

Ah well, fun's over.

I did need to back off from the crack cocaine of SM anyway.....

BigFatLiar are you sneaking in a conflation between recognising biological reality and homophobia?

bethy15 · 07/05/2019 10:41

I also read that it was fake news that Ian Huntley wanted to be treated as a woman so that statement should have been fine. Weren’t Debbie Haydn or Fionne (both lovely but can’t remember which) banned for saying they were men biologically?

It was fake news, he is still a man. He's still Ian Huntley.

bethy15 · 07/05/2019 10:42

And really, that's who Twitter want to be, and the trans community, people who are on side and protecting Ian Huntley, a man who killed two little girls.

It says it all really.

Kohoutek · 07/05/2019 10:49

Yup - Jsoosty perma-banned

Gingernaut · 07/05/2019 11:01

Fixed that for you Wink

I'm in almost exactly the same situation as TalkingintheDark and I know other GC women are too.

Ereshkigal · 07/05/2019 11:22

I'm not fully suspended, I'm on a 7 day ban but I'm holding out for a review because it was very unfair. They won't let you do your seven days until they've decided the outcome of your appeal (if they ever do). You can of course cancel at any time but it's the principle.

Gingernaut · 07/05/2019 12:58

Yup.

That's happened to me. Remove Tweet and get back on immediately.

Which I did without screenshotting. 🤔

As far as Twitter is concerned, it's a numbers game.

The greater the number of reports, the more likely you are to be banned.

Whether these reports come from genuine accounts, spammers or some sort of mobbing 'event', it doesn't matter.

The troubling thing is, politicians are paying more and more attention to what's 'said' on Twitter.

Real life is becoming sidelined, as petitions, calls for speakers, polls and direct access to influencers and policy makers goes on in the increasingly scary Twitterverse.

Paedophilia is a 'kink', women agree with gender neutral toilets, the cotton ceiling is something 'right minded' people need not concern themselves with and lesbians have no problem with trans partners.

Social media is being influenced by people with truly horrific views and it's frightening how politicians, influencers and policy makers are paying attention to these abhorrent voices.

So sorry, Gingernaut. I also saw that Jsoosty had been suspended. I do hope those who are appealing their suspensions are successful. I have been mildly encouraged to see that there have been some recent reinstatements of GC accounts which even garnered an apology from Twitter.

I tweet a lot on GC topics, so far with only one email saying I'd been reported, but no rule-breaking found. However I also tweet a lot about Brexit and someone suggested to me that it's the one issue GC accounts which seem to be most vulnerable to banning, whether temporary or permanent. I was also put on Challenor's blocklist soon after I came out as GC and later on McKinnon's huge list, so I'm guessing a lot of what I tweet isn't seen by those most likely to report me. That sensitive snowflake OJ has also blocked me, along with most of female Twitter. Grin

I agree that Twitter can be a cesspit, but as yet there isn't another platform which enables so many people to make contact and share information so widely.

Sexnotgender · 07/05/2019 15:19

I’m currently on a 12hr ban.

For pointing out that a bullying bloke was being a typical bullying bloke.

EweSurname · 07/05/2019 15:37

Martina's tweeted about Pilgrim Tucker and Clare Dimyon being suspended.

nicenewdusters · 07/05/2019 16:07

I was banned after my first ever tweet. Tweeted This Morning after they'd interviewed Posie and India Willoughby. I asked if given the programmes treatment of Willoughby, she was now going to be invited on to discuss child birth, menstruation, breast feeding, menopause etc.

Banned immediately. A poster on here said I deserved it, that making an account to tweet something like this showed I was a CF. Other posters asked who got to decide what a first tweet should be about, and why couldn't this be my first one?

Never used the account since and no intention to do so. Twitter's not for me.

welshgendercrit · 07/05/2019 17:08

I've just checked and Pilgrim and Clare's accounts are still there, but with no tweets since May 5th. Looks like they have been temporarily restricted, probably for 7 days. Still unfair, given that both are reasoned and intelligent posters, but that's Twitter for you.

I saw a tweet recently which said than when asked what Twitter is doing to protect women, Jack Dorsey replied that they had clamped down on misgendering. Shock Says it all really.

EweSurname · 07/05/2019 17:18

Dr Lesley (reinstate @BDimyon & Pilgrim T) Semmens
@LesleySemmens
Is Twitter using a new tactic for silencing women?

For clarity
@BDimyon
and
@PilgrimTucker
have had "some of their account facilities limited".

This means they cannot tweet, retweet or like.

When you go to their profiles they look normal, but they have been SILENCED.

EweSurname · 07/05/2019 17:19

I don’t really understand about shadowbanning and all the differences between suspending an account and temporarily restricting it so have no idea if this is a new tactic

ComeAndBeLicked · 07/05/2019 18:02

Oh no, Gingernaut!

More and more women's accounts are falling.

I think we were following each other on there. (I've just namechanged here because of doxxing attempts)

lobsterkiller · 07/05/2019 19:44

I'm on lockdown on Twitter and only interact with known posters. That flipping meme of an anime character with a gun is a bloody disgrace but regardless of reporting still remains.

Hithere12 · 07/05/2019 20:35

A good way to get around being banned on Twitter is only retweet controversial stuff, not tweet it yourself. If it’s someone else’s tweet and it’s reported then you won’t get in trouble. I’m literally on my last warning with Twitter as I’ve been temporarily banned twice to can’t take any chances 🤨

nettie434 · 07/05/2019 22:49

We all know this already but it is so frustrating. Leicester player Kelechi Iheanacho did not score on Monday night and so got a lot of racist abuse on Twitter. Strangely enough, it remained there for over 12 hours. The Professional Footballers Association are going to raise it with Twitter.

Is it about priorities at Twitter ‘police’ department or that some trans rights activists deliberately seem to look out for GC accounts and tweets to report? Both I guess.

PushkarKali · 08/05/2019 03:48

I deleted my main Twitter account last week because I couldn't look at the abusive behaviour any longer - it was the replies to Joanna Cherry's thread of examples of horrible tweets she'd received, just another untramelled stream of harassment, that did it. I reported a few of many of the instances of the anime-gun picture and thought, this is not what I want to be doing. Lately I have spent nearly all my time on twitter horrified and mortified at the treatment of women and reporting tweets. It's little more than a sewer these days. I switched to another account that I used mostly for Archers tweetalongs, but it was not much better. Sad - I met my husband on twitter in the days when it was (for me) mostly fun hashtag games. So no more twitter for me.

lazymare · 08/05/2019 14:19

Is it about priorities at Twitter ‘police’ department or that some trans rights activists deliberately seem to look out for GC accounts.

I read that there is a transwoman high up at Twitter but don't know if that's just speculation. It's the only reason for the nonsense regarding a certain person who likes tampons. That or an investigation trying to gather evidence.

nettie434 · 08/05/2019 18:04

A sympathetic trans person in a senior role at Twitter would certainly make sense in terms of the way decisions go, lazymare

lobsterkiller · 09/05/2019 06:29

So have woken up to @racybearhold being suspended from Twitter, she'd been targeted by that meme for days, so edited it and responded in kind.

SorryAuntLydia · 09/05/2019 10:16

My account was temporarily suspended this morning because I had apparently violated some twitter rules ... but the last time I tweeted anything at all was 3 months ago - it was GC though 😀.
Are the twitter police having a clear out of GC feminists?

Ereshkigal · 09/05/2019 15:07

It rather seems that way.
