Just heard a trailer for this. Described people who were 'classified' as female at birth but matured as men. Will be an interesting listen on the way to work.

OP posts:
callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 08:50

I started a thread on this too, will get it deleted. That trailer alone makes me think it will be a hatchet job on biological women.

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 30/04/2019 08:51

I spotted this too, and am eager to listen. Perhaps we'll do a live-comment listen-along?

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 08:56

I'm still fuming from the so called interview with Ed Miliband earlier (John Humphreys grandstanding, as usual). Will listen and comment, and try not to break my keyboard in frustration!

MockerstheFeManist · 30/04/2019 08:57

Conflation Alert:

Sex & Gender

Trans & Inter

I'm guessing it's about this person:

Please do. I used to listen to all these programmes but my patience has worn very thin so I would appreciate it.

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:00

I think the trailer said Kelly Sotherton will be a guest, she's an Olympic medal winning heptathlete who came to prominence 2000-2008, so a contemporary of Kelly Holmes.

Redshoeblueshoe · 30/04/2019 09:01

This is why I love MN, there's always someone brave enough to take one for the team Grin

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:04

Should competition include women classified at birth as men and who matured as men? Sharron Davies, Martina N have raised doubts. But not a new issue. 100 years ago it became an issue.......

MockerstheFeManist · 30/04/2019 09:05

....Stella Walsh, aka Stanisława Walasiewicz

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stanis%C5%82awa_Walasiewicz

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:06

Luke Harris commentating about Stella Walsh, 100 years ago. Polish born, moved to Cleveland USA. EXCEPTIONAL athlete. In 1932 Olympics she ran 100 metres for Poland in 11ish seconds.....

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 30/04/2019 09:06

So men are women - look at how good "Stella" was...
how is that even an argument?!

littlbrowndog · 30/04/2019 09:06

Is there special sad voices ?

Can’t listen. Ta for doing this

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:07

100 years ago, women in sport frowned upon by the founder of modern day Olympics.

Stella Walsh described by David Hounslow. She ran like no other "girl sprinter" according to commentary at the time.

Now Kelly S

LizzieSiddal · 30/04/2019 09:08

oh you go Kelly!

MsTiggywinkletoyou · 30/04/2019 09:08

They are "taking the long view" with Polish-American Stanisława Walasiewicz/ Stella Walsh

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 30/04/2019 09:09

GO KELLY!

She's going to get killed on SM for her POV though.

"A dagger in the heart of female sport"

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:09

Kelly S says she's been quiet on it. Fells like she didn't have all the facts before. Now she thinks it's unfair, will blow women't sport out of the water. Not enough people have the back of female sport.

People compete knowing others take drugs etc. Now they know someone else born man might be competing against them. Unfair

MockerstheFeManist · 30/04/2019 09:11

....Ooooh, Changing Rooms at the 2022 Commonwealth Games stadium, "Male" and "Female"

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:11

Stella Walsh again. Questions in press at the time about her physicality and lack of femininity. Eg, that she had to shave everyday and was large.

KneelJustKneel · 30/04/2019 09:12

peeks between hands .

BuzzPeakWankBobbly · 30/04/2019 09:16

For someone who is so much of a woman on all their drugs, doesn't half sound like a man.

And comparing tall women in basketball making it equal?! FUCK OFF.

AbsintheFriends · 30/04/2019 09:17

A trans athlete talking now, from a studio far far away. Talking about natural physical inequalities '7ft girls playing against 5ft girls' in basketball. (??!!) Also talking about 'girls like me', which is quite a difficult thing to get one's head around on the radio (because of voice pitch.)

LizzieSiddal · 30/04/2019 09:17

“Man of The Match”

You said it Blair!

callmekalinda · 30/04/2019 09:17

Rival to Stella Walsh. Helen Stevens from USA. 1936 Daily Mail report talks about beautiful competitors compared to Helen Stevens who looks masculine and is 6ft tall.

Kelly S saying it's no different today. It's still all about what you look like.

Blair Hamilton speaking now. Transwoman playing for her uni football team. Played pre and post transition. Been on HRT for 2 years. Says their speed and lung capacity has reduced, muscular atrophy, can't physically compete with men any more.

What about vestigial advantage from being born a man. Blair says it's not the case. Yes I might be 6ft tall, but smaller girls have a lower centre of gravity and that's an advantage. Tallness isn't an advantage over talent.

Kelly now. You will have advantages. Eg, people who doped who come back after a ban still have an advantage because they will have trained at a different level while taking drugs. Blair says not the same for team sports. They have only scored 3 goals this season, so that proves they have no advantage (!!!)

AbsintheFriends · 30/04/2019 09:19

Blair saying that children sometimes 'misgender' Blair. But that's OK because it's a 'learning opportunity.'
