Sam Smith thinks like a woman

Just going to leave this here for your thoughts if you haven't already seen the twitter comments...

Jameela's face says it all I think.

He's just making a tit of himself

That'll be the revelation for when his next single is about to be released Grin

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/03/2019 15:20

A moob surely?

Needmoresleep · 20/03/2019 16:16

I am hoping this is a link to the very wonderful Rose of Dawn. About half way through Rose covers Sam Smith.

hipsterfun · 20/03/2019 17:02

Rose of Dawn seems to believe in the idea of ‘earning’ the right to be able to go into women’s spaces (at 21:30) so, while Rose has an interesting perspective, Rose is not really an ally to women and girls. (I used to be agnostic-tending-to-believing on ‘true trans’, but Our Datun of Infinite Patience made me rethink that pretty quick Grin)

What, it pains me to ask, are Rose’s pronouns?

Needmoresleep · 20/03/2019 18:01

Even if I dont agree with everything Rose says, and she is equally clear she is not a fully committed radfem, I like her thoughtful and considered approach.

Someone you can disagree with yet still respect. I am not convinced by this 'ally' stuff. Question everyone and be prepared to argue your corner.

Plus she has not got a lot of time for Sam Smith and the gender fluid stuff.

LassOfFyvie · 20/03/2019 18:16

LassOfFyvie that's how we are socialised to react and say, that doesn't mean how we all think. I know women who wouldn't fail to say that they brought success when it was really just them. And "thinking like a woman" suggests that there's a homogenity to how women think that is distinct to how men think, that's not true

This will be hotly denied but there are frequently posts on here which suggest a homogenity to how women think because of, according to posters, social conditioning.

I mentioned conditioning so not sure why you needed to tell me again. Nice bit of feminist plaining tho.

You (general you)are outraged at what he is saying. I assume because you are assuming he thinks it is innate. Yet FWR is chock a block with posts about how women are conditioned to think or behave. How do you know he isn't referring to conditioned thinking?

AssassinatedBeauty · 20/03/2019 18:32

"The only thinking I have done that I can genuinely class as thinking like a woman is along the lines of "When is my period due?", "Am I pregnant?", "How long should I breastfeed for?", "Am I perimenopausal?", "Do I really have to hand wash my bras?" I'm certain these are issues close to Sam's heart."

^ This. Exactly.

Things that have been socialised/conditioned into (many, not all) women are clearly not uniquely female as not all women think that way, and some men do.

hipsterfun · 20/03/2019 19:16

I am not convinced by this 'ally' stuff.

No, I’m not either. It’s a woke word, used lazily, because I warm to Rose and wouldn’t want to, um, trigger Rose’s dysphoria (iirc). But this sexist idea you can earn your way to woman status undermines the good sense in the rest of the video(s).

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 20/03/2019 19:36

An ally would mean an equal footing or possibly even more power.

The ‘allies’ we see here are more like lapdogs to be honest.

Ereshkigal · 22/03/2019 08:44

This tooth-grindingly inane and irritating article just popped up on my FB

https://www.stylist.co.uk/people/jameela-jamil-piers-morgan-gender-fluidity-twitter-fight/257733?fbclid=IwAR0z7drGT1OBU8Y6Rb4E6SDnRy8eh8u7KgsRIBFm_HGk4x4FdQ0hm0JnCPI

It is the year 2019 and we are finally beginning to dismantle some of the world’s most damaging identity scaffolding in place of something new.

Yes darlings, new isn't automatically better or less damaging.

Morgan, to use his own words, “is an old fuddy duddy” and doesn’t understand why we need to do so. If he can’t wrap his head around this simple thing, then that’s his problem.

But it’s not fine for Morgan not to listen to those, like Smith, who explain the need for gender identity fluidity, and how important it has been to reckon with both society’s and their own perceptions of their selves. It’s not fine for Morgan not to be accepting of other people’s desire to do this. And it’s not fine for him to mock those people.

Actually, all those things are fine. It's a free country.

Apparently Jameela Jamil "schooled" him. They must have read some different tweets to me, because the ones I saw she just spluttered wokely and said wank and shitstain. I'm sure Piers is quaking in his boots.

hipsterfun · 22/03/2019 17:54

Jamil gives the impression of a person who’s read the study notes the night before the exam.

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 22/03/2019 18:05

She’s gone down in my estimation. I hoped she would have been better than she seemed but hey.

AstonishedFemalePersonator · 22/03/2019 20:27

Jamil is Woke and Right-on.

BertrandRussell · 22/03/2019 20:36

I love Jamila Jamil and James Blake so much.......Sad

BixBeiderbecke · 22/03/2019 20:39

I was amused by the idea that he was going to go away and read up on non-binary etc, as if there was a pile of literature and different theories etc etc and not just like a handful of articles that people have basically just made up.

MeowthThatsRight · 22/03/2019 20:42

I’m really disappointed in Jamila Jamil. She always came across as genuinely smart and willing to stick to principals even if they were unpopular. All the comments she’s made since the Sam Smith interview just make her sound like a woke sheep.

FutureMrsTempah · 22/03/2019 20:43

Always said he's a knob since the day he was parading around a festival desperate for attention, but with a bouncer to fend off anyone approaching him

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 22/03/2019 20:55

Yet FWR is chock a block with posts about how women are conditioned to think or behave. How do you know he isn't referring to conditioned thinking?

Why would Sam Smith be conditioned to think or behave like a woman?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 22/03/2019 20:57

Anothe person disappointed with Jameela Jamil. I love her Sad. Gutted.
