Real women play fair, I love it!

Does RMK ride a women’s bike? Perhaps that should be a rule if transwomen want to compete in women’s cycling. Doesn’t work for other sports though sadly.

It should look like this just so all the photographers very clearly understand they are photographing a woman.

Nah, it’s missong the pink holographic streamers from the handles 😉

Needmoresleep · 07/03/2019 22:52

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6784175/Dame-Kelly-Holmes-receives-backlash-objecting-trans-athletes-competing-against-women.html

Covered fairly well by the Mail, though curiously the article is written by their senior showbiz correspondent.

Courday · 07/03/2019 22:56

Specialized need to play this carefully. Dropping someone of the calibre and good name as Kelly (who is universally loved here) on the basis of unwarranted claims from a bullying misogynist is not going to go down well in the UK
Did Garmin respond to McKinnon's tweet at all?

Courday · 07/03/2019 23:00

"Martina has been made aware of the CC. I saw her commenting on some tweets."

What Martina does with the cc information she was exposed to will be facinating. Pretty sure I saw AfterEllen (the only genuine lesbian website we have) writers trying to contact her.
Martina has the power to blow this whole thing open and shame groups like Stonewall/autostraddle etc.
I would understand though if she chooses not to get involved though, dealing with the fallout from the sports aspect must be difficult enough (I can dream though).

There isn’t really such a thing as woman’s or mans bike when it comes to serious sport. Women’s bikes don’t have the diagonal crossbar for instance which was made so that people could cycle wearing a skirt! In the mass produced stuff they do market sex based bikes but there’s very little difference and is based on torso limb length ratios really which in average do differ between the sexes but for some shapes the opposite sex bike to what you are might be suitable. Elite athletes all have custom built made to measure bikes so are based on the person specifically

Courday · 07/03/2019 23:10

Not sure that it strictly true. Someone posted a link to a bike on the Specialized website that was boring on about how it was designed for female bodies.
Obviously elite races will have them custom built but at McKinnon's level they will be off the shelf?

adultFemaleElf · 07/03/2019 23:13

What is the “cc” stuff?

Caucho · 07/03/2019 23:15

www.rei.com/blog/cycle/whats-the-difference-between-womens-and-mens-bikes Info on bikes if anyone interested.

Also don’t know why people are surprised about RM going after Paula, Dame Kelly etc. With all respect to our fine GB athletes none of these are as well known by the world or as close to sporting royalty as Martina herself.

An yes Kelly is at least bi. She was in a relationship with her female training partner who tended to always beat her in competition and I have friends who have met her. I’m not outing her. It’s well known

The Difference Between Men and Women’s Road Bikes

Caucho · 07/03/2019 23:19

Sorry Courday that’s what I said though. There’s a difference in the fit but are principally the same and are often interchanged between sexes based on shape. The standard male female ones are just generalised on the ‘average’ man or woman

Caucho · 07/03/2019 23:21

You can get a custom bike for 10 grand so imagine RM will have one. Won’t have bought it from Halfords

Caucho · 07/03/2019 23:32

Won’t have bought it all. Probably a brand ambassador or some shite and gets them for free

Haworthia · 07/03/2019 23:33

Oh, you mean Maria Mutola @Caucho? Come to think of it I vaguely remember hearing (long after the event) that they were together as well as training partners and rivals on the track. I’ve followed Kelly’s career since the 90s and MM’s name popped into my head straight away.

Caucho · 07/03/2019 23:42

Yes Maria. I promise I’m not starting any wicked rumours or anything. Surely this is common knowledge? Well for people who follow athletics I suppose but maybe not the general public.

What is weird, and I do know this is going to come across as completely nasty, is that Maria appears very masculine herself and looks similar to intersex athletes like Castor. Or I could be just being harsh and applying the RM eyeball test.

Mner2019 · 07/03/2019 23:52

So pleased that all these sports legends are getting involved. The support they are getting on Twitter is amazing. It will be interesting to see what Specialized says now (if anything).

powershowerforanhour · 07/03/2019 23:54

I tend to agree with the PP who reckons that McKinnon has probably never actually watched much women's sport and doesn't really know who Kelly Holmes is or the regard she is held in by the British public (hey McKinnon- the clue is in the "Dame" bit). And is also too lazy, thick and bigheaded to bother spend 5 minutes on google dispelling the ignorance.

Since McKinnon's hubris appears to know no bounds, I wouldn't be surprised if Jessie Ennis-Hill is the next target and the entire country will be hoisted over the peak by McKinnon's own petard.

What is the “cc” stuff?

CC stands for the cotton ceiling. A play on the glass ceiling. And is meant to denote the cotton gusset in a pair of knickers as something to 'break through'.

It's about men identifing as women whose dating pool has shrunk and who require coercion to persuade women to shag then. Lesbians usually, as straight women don't sleep with 'women' so are useless for validation purposes.

The fact that lesbians don't do dick gives you an idea of why their pants are regarded as something to 'break through'.

Astoundingly Planned Parenthood in the US hosted a workshop to help transwomen with tips and tricks on how to break through the cotton ceiling.

McKinnon is no doubt a proponent of the cc as they believe a lesbian's orientation is a result of a 'genital hangup, the 'working through' of which should be able to make them 'cope' (with dick).

QwertyLou · 08/03/2019 03:18

Dame Kelly Holmes is one of the athletes my teenage niece follows on social media... she alerted me to this Shock

What is going on!? Rachel McKinnon has not attacked the (white, male) athlete who wrote the article she is offended by.

But another athlete (Black, female) retweets the article it and Rachel (1) calls her transphobic and (2) pressures her sponsors to terminate her?

Someone please tell me I’ve got it wrong.

IAmThereforeIDontIdentify · 08/03/2019 04:37

QwertyLou. You've got it right.

QwertyLou · 08/03/2019 05:36

Thanks IATIDI... wow.

I read the “offending” article. It said people should be free and respected to identify and express themselves as they wish... isn’t that the essence of trans acceptance? Confused

Rachel McKinnon views herself as an ally towards Black people.. but she has often used Black people (esp women) quite cynically, to advance her own agenda with problematic ( whitesplaining) analogies.

And now this.
