I wish both Dame Kelly and Sharron would report McK for targeted harassment.

They both have verified twitter accounts - reports from them will carry weight. They are probably too nice, though, and have too much sense of fair-play and free discussion.

McK has no such principles.

FermatsTheorem · 07/03/2019 12:53

Just emailed Specialized telling them how many of their bikes I've bought for the family over the last few years (the sort of repeat customer most firms would give their right arm for) and telling them I will never buy another one of their bikes if they drop Kelly.

littlbrowndog · 07/03/2019 12:53

How can bbc even have a person like the cyclist on talking about women’s sport who is a homophobic

The cyclist tweeted that cis lesbians should get over their genital hang ups and relize that they can cope fine

With cock

placemats · 07/03/2019 12:59

Both my grown up daughters remember when Dame Kelly Holmes came to their all girls school, even though neither of them liked sports. They are in awe of her and so am I.

Kelly Holmes. You are brilliant. Star

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 07/03/2019 13:01

MillytantForceit thanks. Managed to log out and then peruse Twitter unshackled by the blockers! Probably shouldn't have though, it's raised my blood pressure and sent me down a rabbit hole of head meeting desk when I am meant to be working!

Usermynamenow · 07/03/2019 13:05

I’m following this too. Here are screenshots if you cannot access it. McKinnon is going after Sharron Davies as well.

I can't understand the looks like a trans woman slur?

Cognitive dissonance/plain stupidity/idiotic/senseless

This person called RM got a doctorate? Obviously in the above sentence.

placemats · 07/03/2019 13:10

And why isn't RM going after Daley Thompson?

Popchyk · 07/03/2019 13:19

"McKinnon is Canadian".

Can't believe I mis-countried McKinnon. Or it is mis-nationalitied?

Mankyfoot · 07/03/2019 13:21

I'm looking to buy a new bike soon. I won't be buying one from Specialized if they cave into that bully's demands.

AssassinatedBeauty · 07/03/2019 13:22

placemats it's not really an attempt at a slur, it's more that they are claiming to look as feminine as SD or more feminine, and so they are equally female.

MhairiV · 07/03/2019 13:25

Make sure you tell them that Mankyfoot.

MeAgainAgain · 07/03/2019 13:28

I took the looks like a man thing to be

Basic bogstandard male ego that we see all the time

That the worst thing to say to a woman is that she is not attractive to heterosexual men

BOOOHOOOO

Uptheapplesandpears · 07/03/2019 13:28

Kelly Holmes appears to want to keep her sexuality private, as she's not discussed orientation either way and I don't think she's ever publicly presented a partner either. However, I'm not entirely willing to give the benefit of the doubt in respect of her sexuality not being a factor. She's not done the things that women are traditionally supposed to do, so that in some ways means she's an easier target. For all the comments about Sharron looking like a man, she's had three children, was married to quite a high profile man and has had relationships with others. She's done the things women are 'supposed' to do and there's some protection in that. Because Kelly hasn't, and because she lives her life in a way that makes speculation about lesbianism plausible even if she isn't, that in itself is something she can kind of be targeted for. If that makes sense. So even if she isn't a lesbian, I don't think this can be entirely separated from homophobia.

Incredibly foolish to target her though.

FloatOn · 07/03/2019 13:29

I had a quick look from an incognito tab as surprise surprise RM has me blocked.
The responses to the specialised thread are really heartening, sense seems to be prevailing.

Mankyfoot · 07/03/2019 13:29

Don't worry, I will make sure of it. I'm furious at the way these brave and amazing sports WOMEN are being treated.

CallMeWoman · 07/03/2019 13:31

Thanks, I have emailed them.

MeAgainAgain · 07/03/2019 13:32

She;s gender nonconforming is maybe the short version of that

While sharron is much more - on the surface - gender conforming

You are right that GNC women get loads of shit and at least some of that is homophobia / and also to do with being seen as getting above themselves ie trying to step "up" from their role down the pecking order
While women with looks that are patriarchy approved are protected to some extent as seen as more "valuable" and also assumptions about them based on their looks > gender conformity is assumed to a certain extent in women with western social standards of good looking

Which is another feminist discussion!

Why hasn't RM gone after daley thompson? We all know why don't we.

MeAgainAgain · 07/03/2019 13:33

sorry that was in response to apples

MiddleAgeRage · 07/03/2019 13:34

McKinnon is a blithering idiot and I hope one day they will be hoist by their own petard. I wonder if contacting Kelly Holmes sponsors in this way could be viewed as interfering with contractual relations. I'd be talking to a solicitor - depending on what Specialized do next.

teyem · 07/03/2019 13:51

Specialized might have to tread carefully, I suppose. They are, selling women's specific bike seats, tailored to the female physiology. Transphobia bastards.

It's almost as though, when you look at their website, as though there are only two sexes. This must be very troubling, as it doesn't appear very woke.

Here they are, marketing wares to "women" based on the stereotypical notion that they have female genitals.

But, before they are accused of being obsessed by genitals...they also have women's bikes which transphobically suggest that women have...brace yourselves for the literal violence, shorter legs!

So, what does that mean for specialized understanding of women's sports and, specifically, women's cycling? It means when there is money to be made, women are women but when they are pressed by tras, this concept should be flagged for more thinking.

Haworthia · 07/03/2019 14:02

Why hasn't RM gone after daley thompson? We all know why don't we.

Yep. Time and time again, we see men speaking out against trans activism, and they don’t receive a fraction of the threats, abuse and harassment that women get when they say the same thing.

MeAgainAgain · 07/03/2019 14:06

"Here they are, marketing wares to "women" based on the stereotypical notion that they have female genitals.

But, before they are accused of being obsessed by genitals...they also have women's bikes which transphobically suggest that women have...brace yourselves for the literal violence, shorter legs!"

Not to mention different shaped seats!

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm wonder why that would be.

Bike saddle manufacturers sound transphobic and genitally obsessed to me.

Sarcelle · 07/03/2019 14:07

I think this is a good thing. Looking at twitter it has alerted people to the ridiculousness of this situation. People who don't normally talk about the way women are being treated by a vocal part of the trans comm (particularly the ex male part) are suddenly engaged and enraged.
