Apparently a woman spent 8 hours in a cell/being interviewed by the police for a "transphobic" Tweet along the lines of TWAW. Can't bring myself to buy the Mail tomorrow to check the details, but it may be taken up by other papers.

It’s also a great place to learn stuff that you wouldn’t learn about in your own life

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 14:13

It's not a movement, it's just all been forced into one place, unfortunately it's the most popular parenting website and the one that brings high search results on Google.

Badgers with lipstick eek

RedDogsBeg · 11/02/2019 14:15

MhairiV I too take issue with the manner in which the DM frames some stories, I take issue with some of their opinion pieces and I criticise them accordingly. I value a free press, freedom of expression and freedom to criticise.

The DM has run and continues to run very worthwhile campaigns on all manner of subjects.

What does the wholesale demonisation of the DM and its' readers achieve?

On the subject of demonisation, how did the Guardian's demonisation of the victims of the New Years Eve sex attacks in Cologne sit with you?

Needmoresleep · 11/02/2019 14:29

MhariV be prepared to find some new heros.

David TC Davies MP a pretty non descript Tory backbencher from mid-Wales who not only hosted WPUK in Parliament when Millwall FC lost its balls, showed up to support Linda Bellos and asked useful questions in Parliament.

Or James Kirkup a well regarded centre right journalist who has written some very good articles for the Spectator.

As well as articulate and knowledgeable academics and journalists from differents sides of the political spectrum, plus the different US and Antipodean perspectives.

A great education, whatever your starting point. And your views remain your own.

DisrespectfulAdultFemale · 11/02/2019 14:58

What does the wholesale demonisation of the DM and its' readers achieve?

Eh. I don't expect any kind of nuanced thinking from someone who uses the phrases "insidious and poisonous", "demonisation and vilification of minorities and vulnerable groups, disingenuous wording, misinformation, and of course the actual barefaced lies", "blatantly provocative snark", "outrage machine" etc to describe the Daily Mail (and, no, I am not a regular reader; I am someone who realises that there are many shades of grey in the world).

LangCleg · 11/02/2019 15:03

I'll not be changing my mind on the insidious and poisonous nature of the Mail anytime soon but as much as it pains me to admit, it's interesting having to confront one way in which it might actually be a useful tool.

There are women on this site and elsewhere who have spent a decade trying to raise awareness about what is going on and being roundly ignored at best or harassed and denounced as normal. Do you think they still care which outlet finally raises awareness?

Many of us here have sent not one, not ten, but hundreds of emails to the BBC and the Guardian, objecting to biased and misleading content to little or no avail. Do you think we care which outlet finally raises awareness?

Can you understand how marching in and saying that you're new to all this and know nothing, are simply JAQing, but it's very important that the first thing you do is announce that all these women are definitely doing it wrong by citing the Fail, might not get the most positive response?

"So many people are here because TRAs closed down discussion on other sites."

That is exactly why I am here. I don't do twitter, so can lurk and look at most accounts. I wouldn't post comments on FB under my own name - not that I use FB very much anyway. I use other more specific interest forums - motoring, cycling, gardening etc., but any discussion about this particular issue gets closed down quickly.

This is an example on a cycling forum where I do not post, regarding the McKinnon situation. Some folks make very good comments (I know that the majority of posters are male), but then the moderator steps in to effectively close down debate Angry

^^ Yep, I find can answer pub quiz questions that leave my other team members staring blankly solely because of the DM's Sidebar of Shame Grin

littlbrowndog · 11/02/2019 16:31

Oh time lady I was talking about here 😂

But side bar does the same as well

ToeToToe · 11/02/2019 17:01

TRA have closed down discussion on every other site as far as I can tell. Draconian rules in place. This place is the only place we can have it, but even it comes with restrictions that are not applied across the board.

Incidentally, the writer of the Sunday Mail piece has just tweeted this:

twitter.com/martinbeckford/status/1094917318709252097

Someone reported his tweet linking to his story. No violation found Grin

Nice try though...

Katvonfelttipeyebrows · 11/02/2019 17:02

Someone above mentioned linking the evidence of SH harassing women on Twitter.

Here we have SH their GP sidekick mentioning travelling to humberside and Lincolnshire for golfing, and visiting churches. Whilst this may constitute them having "hilarious bantz", given SH has a conviction for assault, allegedly including a golf club, and the church they are talking about visiting is the Parish church of Caroline Farrow , a Catholic journalist who speaks out against TRAs, the whole thing takes a more sinister turn.

caro I'm assuming the police refused to investigate this? Plus all the other terrible harassment you have been exposed too?

I just had a look at the thread on the cycling forum that andyoldlabour linked to. This is what the moderator says:

Transgender women are women and so use of male pro-nouns is transphobia. Do not do it. Repeatedly stating you opinion when someone posts actual facts or research for discussion without taking this into account is trolling.

I don't think this person has actually understood what the words 'fact' and 'opinion' mean. The few posts I've read by people discussing the issue can see the problem with letting people like McKinnon compete against women, though.

It shows how lucky we are to actually be able to discuss this issue here, without being told that 'transwomen are women' is a 'fact', which is what the moderator seems to think on that forum.

Datun · 11/02/2019 17:29

Martin Beckford has received his first report in ten years over his article.

It's too, too perfect. There would be no story for him to write if it weren't for TRA reaction.

This is how it works. They want him banned. They are, at this very second in time, writing his next story.

Bring it on.

OvaHere · 11/02/2019 17:38

So even Donald Trump Jr tweeted about Kate's arrest according to Martin Beckford.

Oh my Shock this story has seriously gathered pace.

TimeLady · 11/02/2019 18:07

Oh my. How to peak trans the entire Daily Mail team Grin

How to peak trans the entire Daily Mail team

Smoke bombing their offices wasn't the best idea.

We all knew something would happen.

Bowlofbabelfish · 11/02/2019 18:17

Oh I forgot about that! They’re their own worst enemies arent they?

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 11/02/2019 18:20

They’re their own worst enemies arent they?

It's the inability to leave things that has caused it.

Carowiththegoodhair · 11/02/2019 18:55

I’ve been reliably informed that the police are going to do nowt about Harrop & Hayden’s intimidation as it falls just within the confines of the law.

I am too brassed off with the police to ever call them again unless one of these madmen actually does escalate in person. Which is likely because I have blocked the stalker’s blog from my server, he’ll know I am not looking and is obviously starving for my attention.

Like many of the general public I have no confidence in the police at all and while I have to write a complaint, I’m too emotionally exhausted.

ALL of the people I suspect in having a hand in this blog have been reported over the years. I had death threats when they faked an FB entry of mine which had me saying “all them with AIDS and cancer deserve it and their children too for being gay and sinners’. Over the years, I’ve been accused of pedophilia, been doxed, been told I should be crucified and urinated upon and now this latest spat. Police have done sweet FA. Which is why I am so upset. As you might have gathered. Wine

It's the inability to leave things that has caused it. I wonder why they do this?

I just hope that the DM do a thorough investigation into those who are driving this agenda and where the money is coming from.

Carowiththegoodhair · 11/02/2019 19:09

Russia Today. Hmm

Popchyk · 11/02/2019 19:13

Caro, has your harassment been logged as separate religious hate incidents?

Because they clearly are. And even if they were not, hate incidents depend on the perception of the victim. They have to be recorded, no matter what.

The police have been saying that they always investigate hate incidents as a matter of course. You could submit a Subject Access Request to your local force to find out what information they hold about you and whether the separate incidences of harassment have been logged as hate incidents.

Would the Catholic Church get involved on your behalf? What about your MP?
